Car is being relisted. Was very close to reserve, and had a few "meat heads" who wanted to be unrealistic; so, please be sincere and I will do the same in return.

FINDING A BLACK / BLACK ONE IS HARD ENOUGH, LET ALONE IT BEING A SPORT EDITION. I LIVE IN A BIG CITY AND HAVE NOT SEEN A TWIN YET.

We have a family friend who does door to door, insured shipping, and will do so at a discounted rate to facilitate. Let me know if you need a quote. The car deserves to be put on a truck and trailered to its next home if you are out of State. It is one of the nicest, original, and well preserved mileage SL500 Convertibles you may see. The pictures tell most of the story...... and it is even more impressive in person.

I reserve the right to end the listing early for any reason, as it is also being listed on other resources. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me directly at: 305-302-4617Properly stored year round and only driven in good weather.

1999 Mercedes Benz SL500 Conv ( built 7/99 - late production) w/ $5000.00 Sport Edition Pkg. ( 18 AMG wheels, Ground effects, side vents, and upgraded bumpers that is all factory ) w/ 53000 miles - Very desirable - Black / Black / Black. Everybody that knows this car says it still looks like it has been in a Dealership for years. It is an awesome, non-smoking, 2 owner ( Dealer serviced ), that has been babied, always garaged, and barely seen rain. It is in outstanding, all original condition. Never modified in any way whatsoever. I have all of the original paperwork, books, hardtop stand / cover, and 3 orig. keys, tool kit, and windscreen ( see pic ). CAR NEEDS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

The Black exterior is in awesome condition, and has never had paint work. The moldings, handles, window glass, lettering, rubber seals, and all other exterior features are in crisp condition. The AMG wheels are not discolored or corroded and the tires are almost new. The Black soft top looks like new ( I did not take the hardtop off because you need 2 people around ). Never run through an automatic car wash and always hand washed / waxed are a great part as to why it still looks so fabulous. No rust or wear to the undercarriage. A solid 9.5 on the outside.

On the inside, the Black interior still looks, feels, and maintains that newer appeal. As you can see in the pics, the seats have always been covered, and the orig. floor mats have Benz mats over them. The door panels, carpeting, dash, center console, faceplates, etc. are original. All of the interior buttons / switches ( power windows, door locks, cruise, antenna, and 6 way power seats ) work without issue. The stereo system w/ multi CD still plays perfect. The undercarriage is dry, spotless, and rust free too. A 9.75 inside.

Mechanically, it starts, idles, and drives smoothly as a "well-oiled" machine should. Service is up to date - a/c, belts, hoses, fluids all changed / maintained at the proper intervals, along with convertible top hydraulics. The engine compartment / undercarriage are extra clean / dry, and it performs without hesitation. No corner has been cut or expense spared.

The next owner will have years of enjoyable and trouble free use, turning heads when you pull up or drive by.

The UK votes for Brexit and it will impact automakers

Fri, Jun 24 2016

It's the first morning after the United Kingdom voted for what's become known as Brexit – that is, to leave the European Union and its tariff-free internal market. Now begins a two-year process in which the UK will have to negotiate with the rest of the EU trading bloc, which is its largest export market, about many things. One of them may be tariffs, and that could severely impact any automaker that builds cars in the UK. This doesn't just mean companies that you think of as British, like Mini and Jaguar. Both of those automakers are owned by foreign companies, incidentally. Mini and Rolls-Royce are owned by BMW, Jaguar and Land Rover by Tata Motors of India, and Bentley by the VW Group. Many other automakers produce cars in the UK for sale within that country and also export to the EU. Tariffs could damage the profits of each of these companies, and perhaps cause them to shift manufacturing out of the UK, significantly damaging the country's resurgent manufacturing industry. Autonews Europe dug up some interesting numbers on that last point. Nissan, the country's second-largest auto producer, builds 475k or so cars in the UK but the vast majority are sent abroad. Toyota built 190k cars last year in Britain, of which 75 percent went to the EU and just 10 percent were sold in the country. Investors are skittish at the news. The value of the pound sterling has plummeted by 8 percent as of this writing, at one point yesterday reaching levels not seen since 1985. Shares at Tata Motors, which counts Jaguar and Land Rover as bright jewels in its portfolio, were off by nearly 12 percent according to Autonews Europe. So what happens next? No one's terribly sure, although the feeling seems to be that the jilted EU will impost tariffs of up to 10 percent on UK exports. It's likely that the UK will reciprocate, and thus it'll be more expensive to buy a European-made car in the UK. Both situations will likely negatively affect the country, as both production of new cars and sales to UK consumers will both fall. Evercore Automotive Research figures the combined damage will be roughly $9b in lost profits to automakers, and an as-of-yet unquantified impact on auto production jobs. Perhaps the EU's leaders in Brussels will be in a better mood in two years, and the process won't devolve into a trade war. In the immediate wake of the Brexit vote, though, the mood is grim, the EU leadership is angry, and investors are spooked.

Automakers suspend some business in Russia following invasion

Mon, Feb 28 2022

These Russian GAZ Tigr infantry mobility vehicles were destroyed by Ukrainian fighters in Kharkiv on Monday. (Getty Images)   Global auto and truck makers, including Sweden's Volvo Cars and Germany's Daimler Truck, on Monday suspended some business in Russia following that country's invasion of Ukraine. Russian forces invaded Ukraine last week, marking the biggest attack by one state against another in Europe since World War II. Many firms have idled operations in Russia following Western sanctions against Russia. Energy giant BP Plc, Russia's biggest foreign investor, abruptly announced over the weekend it was abandoning its 20% stake in state-controlled Rosneft at a cost of up to $25 billion. On Monday, Swedish automaker Volvo Cars said it would suspend car shipments to the Russian market until further notice, becoming the first international automaker to do so as sanctions over the invasion continue to bite. In a statement, the company said it had made the decision because of "potential risks associated with trading material with Russia, including the sanctions imposed by the EU and US." "Volvo Cars will not deliver any cars to the Russian market until further notice," it said. A Volvo spokesman said the carmaker exports vehicles to Russia from plants in Sweden, China and the United States. This came as Russia warned Sweden and Finland not to join NATO or risk facing “serious military-political consequences." Volvo sold around 9,000 cars in Russia in 2021, based on industry data. Earlier on Monday, RIA news agency reported Volkswagen had temporarily suspended deliveries of cars already in Russia to local dealerships, citing a company statement. VW had no immediate comment when contacted by Reuters. VW previously said it would halt production for a few days this week at two German factories after a delay in getting parts made in Ukraine. Daimler Truck said on Monday it would freeze its business activities in Russia with immediate effect, including its cooperation with Russian truck maker Kamaz. Mercedes-Benz Group is also looking into legal options to divest its 15% stake in Kamaz as quickly as possible, the Handelsblatt newspaper reported. A Mercedes spokesperson told Reuters business activities would have to be re-evaluated in light of the current events. Mercedes-Benz Group, formerly Daimler AG, was the parent company of Daimler Truck before the truck maker was spun off.

Recharge Wrap-up: Shift to offer Teslas for Hire, Model S P85D beats Ferrari in drag race

Mon, Dec 15 2014

A company called Shift plans to provide bikes and EVs for hire. Based in Las Vegas, NV, Shift will provide chauffeured ride services like Uber, but will also include a car- and bike-sharing service that delivers the desired wheels to the customer. Shift's fleet will include EVs like the Smart Fortwo Electric Drive and the Tesla Model S. Shift also promises that you will, "Be on your way within five minutes," which is a pretty tall order. Shift is scheduled to be available to members beginning this fall. Read more at The Car Connection. Nissan UK has confirmed the price of replacement batteries for the Leaf. UK drivers will be able to buy new batteries for 4,920 pounds (or about $7,738). That's considerably more than the price of $5,499 for US customers. Customers get 1,000 pounds back when they exchange their old battery. The original battery is covered under a five-year, 60,000-mile warranty, and most owners will never need to replace it. According to Nissan, only three replacement batteries have been sold out of 30,000 Leafs sold in Europe. Read more at Autocar. The Tesla Model S P85D walloped a Ferrari in an impromptu drag race video. The Ferrari driver pulls up alongside the Tesla and asks, "What you got in there?" before challenging him to a race. The Ferrari gets a head start, but the Tesla pulls out ahead quickly. The video also gets the reactions of some passengers to the car's mighty acceleration. See the video below and read the account of a drag race against a Lamborghini Aventador at Car Throttle. Australian website Drive has chosen their Cars of the Year in various categories. The Tesla Model S was a carryover winner for Luxury Car Over $80,000, but the Mercedes-Benz C200 narrowly overtook it to be crowned the overall winner. Regarding the Model S, one judge says, "This makes every other EV look at least a generation behind." The main thing that held the Tesla back from winning outright was the near-term lack of charging infrastructure. The judges did note Tesla's plans to build a network of Superchargers in Australia, but also pointed out that those plans exclude much of the country so far.
