1998 Mercedes-benz Sl600 Base Convertible 2-door 6.0l on 2040-cars
Orange, California, United States
Being sold at NO RESERVE!!!!!!!!!
This car is as good as it gets. I bought the Mercedes about 7 years ago and it has been very reliable. I bought it with less than 22,000 miles and now it has less than 36,000 miles. It is fully optioned (the only two options were the Panoramic Roof and the Sports Package which added about $9000 to the MSRP. The total MSRP of the car back in 1998 was almost $130,000. The paint, interior and both tops are like new. The car runs and drives perfectly, like new and does not have any issues. There is not even a single door ding on this car. I would not hesitate to get in this car and drive it anywhere. The air conditioning blows cold and everything works as it should. Why am I selling it? Well, actually I really don't want to. The car is just too nice and I could never replace it with something as good. But I have been traveling a lot lately and I don't get to drive it enough. I have been back in town this month and I put about 800 trouble free miles on it. The car is pretty fast, with almost 400 horsepower but surprisingly, it gets decent gas mileage. I get about 23 mpg on the highway. Around town......not so much. I honestly don't think you will find a better example anywhere. I know, I looked quite a while at SL600's before I bought this one. I have babied the car in the 7 years I have owned it. I have only used Mobil 1 oil in it. The car has four nearly new top of the line Bridgestone tires. It has a 6 disc CD changer mounted in the trunk. One of the wheels has some road rash about two inches long on it but you would hardly notice it unless I pointed it out. And another wheel has some clear coat cracking which is not noticeable unless unless you put your face right up to it. If you bring a magnifying glass, you might find some other blemishes, but I promise you this, if you are looking for a 129 series SL600 (and 1998 is the best year to buy too), then you would be hard pressed to find a better one. The car is located in the city of Perris California. The other thing is that I traveling starting the second or third week of August. So I need to sell the car, collect the money and deliver it before August 10th. This is VERY IMPORTANT Being sold at NO RESERVE!!!!!!!!!!!!! So the car will be sold next week. If you bid, please sure you will be able to complete your end of the transaction If you have any questions, please send me a message and I will respond with in 24 hours. Thank you. Brabus to storm Geneva with 800-hp version of Mercedes SL65 AMG
Wed, 27 Feb 2013At no point during our recent drive of the 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG did we ever think, "You know, this thing sure is slow." After all, Merc's range-topping SL comes fitted with a twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter V12 capable of sending 621 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque to the rear wheels. But just in case you're still all "meh" about what the SL65 throws down, Brabus will gladly come to your rescue with this, the 800 Roadster.
As its name suggests, the 800 Roadster ups the V12's power figures to 800 horsepower and - wait for it - 1,047 pound-feet of torque. Don't get too excited, though - that torque number has been electronically limited to a measly 811 lb-ft since, you know, the transmission would probably explode if you tried to put the full force through it. Nevertheless, these represent increases of 79 hp and 73 lb-ft over the standard SL65, and that means the 800 Roadster can shoot to 62 miles per hour in just 3.7 seconds - two-tenths of a second quicker than the Merc its based on. More impressively, hitting 124 mph takes just under 10 seconds, and the droptop will finally top out at an electronically limited - limited! - 217 mph. Holy smokes.
To manage all of that speed, Brabus has engineered a special carbon fiber aero kit that reduces lift, and a unique control module for the SL65's active body control suspension lowers the ride height by one full inch. The 800 Roadster rides on new 20-inch wheels, and a unique limited-slip rear differential was added, featuring a 40 percent locking rate that further enhances performance when you're attempting to control the beast at its limits. Interior upgrades include new leather and alcantara surfaces throughout the cabin, including a leather-clad trunk.
Mercedes-Maybach Pullman is the luxury car for the discerning dictator
Fri, Mar 16 2018For decades, Mercedes-Benz and Mercedes-Maybach cars have been the ride of choice for leaders across the globe, presidents, ambassadors, dictators and despots alike. The Pullman model — a long-wheelbase six-seat variant — has been particularly popular with this select clientele. This week, the German automaker announced the latest version of the car, the Mercedes-Maybach Pullman S650. Essentially, this is a stretched version of the V12-powered Maybach with two rear-facing seats just behind the front row. Mercedes is calling this vis-a-vis seating. There's also a partitioning glass between the front seats and the rear cabin. This is of course to help prevent the chauffeur from learning and spilling any state secrets or plans for plans for secret moon bases. New for this model is a front-facing camera for rear-seat passengers. This allows occupants to watch for any oncoming obstacles, barricades or road blocks. Visually, there's no mistaking the Pullman for another Maybach or really anything else on the road. The car is 21.3-feet long, 4.5-feet longer than the standard Maybach or roughly the size of two and a half Smart Fortwo placed bumper-to-bumper. The requisite 20-inch 10-hole wheels are present and the standard pinstripe Maybach grille has been updated with a slightly new design. The car only comes in S650 trim, meaning it's powered by a 630 horsepower 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12. As expected, the Mercedes-Maybach Pullman isn't cheap. Orders have started, but be prepared to shell out at least $615,000 before adding any custom touches. If you're a Daimler exec, you'll soon have to drive an EV
Sat, Feb 20 2016Luckily, for Daimler's "senior level" managers, the company has a lot of plug-in vehicle options. Lucky because "in the future," these managers will have to drive the company's electrified vehicles. This most likely means a plug-in hybrid – something like the C 350 e or the GLE 500 e 4MATIC – but it could also be the all-electric and peppy Smart ED or the B-Class EV. Board member Ola Kallenius said in a statement (available below) that this new policy, "We are continuing on the path of zero-emission driving with consistency. This is why we are making electric mobility an integral part of the everyday lives of our top management to set an example and to provide a clear role model." It's a big change from five years ago, when Daimler's director of fuel cell and battery drive development, Christian Mohrdieck, was willing to talk up the drawbacks EVs face. Even a year ago, Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche explained the financial hardships involved in making EVs. But, EV technology continues to change, and so, perhaps, do the attitudes inside Daimler. As EV advocate Chelsea Sexton said on Facebook regarding this new policy, "This should be standard procedure in any automaker seeking a leadership role in the plug-in vehicle movement. Commitment starts at the top." Furthermore, Daimler is this year set to invest a further 30 million euros into extending the company's own charging infrastructure across many of its sites. This will also benefit employees, who have access to a growing range of vehicles with alternative drive systems. Stuttgart. It represents a further commitment from Daimler to an electric future for mobility: "We are continuing on the path of zero-emission driving with consistency", states Ola Kallenius, member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG responsible for Mercedes-Benz Cars Sales and Marketing, about the importance of the current initiative. "This is why we are making electric mobility an integral part of the everyday lives of our top management to set an example and to provide a clear role model." The agreement applies to the company's senior levels of management and focuses on plug-in hybrids.
