Original owner car here! Clean Car Fax.... Maintained with an open checkbook and service done by Mercedes and an old German mechanic who specializes in Mercedes.

I'm selling this car for my parents.  Car has a new soft top and it goes up and down beautifully! No hydraulic leaks here.. (TOP) which is common on this vintage carcIf they sit.  Seals get dry, and then pumps leak..  I had all latches replaced by old German mechanic.   Then had  Mercedes of Huntington in NY do a major service to this car. I was going to keep it for myself...

Drivers side rear quarter was painted years ago.  My Mom backed into the mail box.  Scraped rag top and paint...Had local body shop paint quarter.  Just cosmetic, nothing major... Mirrors are faded and the car has a few nicks, but overall in excellent condition for it's vintage.   Car has icy cold AC, windows, top, all work fine.  Power locks work flawlessly ..  Interior lights, blinkers, brake lights, head lights, fog lights all work.  Car has new brakes and rotors, plus all new fluids....  This was done by German Mechanic in Palm Beach florida...

Both power seats move forward, back, up and down..Tilt steering and cruise control work fine, interior lights work. mirror light works,  Car shifts smooth as it should, and it's incredibly fast!.  Mercedes of Huntington put in new ball joints less than a year ago, and a new wiper blade...  I don't have receipt, but it's on file, and if you bring the car to Mercedes, they will have a full service history..This car traveled by enclosed trailer every winter to Palm Beach Florida and only used on special occasions.. I think if you do the calculations it's approx  3,000 miles per year....

This is a 1998 with under 45/k Original miles...Brakes, rotors, fluids have all been changed.  Drives straight and it's very fast!...Car has after market stereo and includes  original Mercedes stereo, which is in good working order.  Also, side lamps were replaced with clear.  Yellow Original are also included and in fine shape.

Car comes with removable hardtop, cover, and rolling storage stand.  Tires have 90% tread left.

If you've always wanted a 1998 500SL but didn't have the $80/k +/- or just want a really nice German vintage rag top, which will give you years of trouble free pleasure, then this is the car.  I can't guarantee "Trouble Free" because it is mechanical, but I will say this car has given my family very little problems and it's been maintained with an open checkbook.   I was going to buy the car for myself, but have way too many cars in the stable.... This car has been garage kept, but as of a month ago, I had to put it outside in my driveway...  I have a three car garage but no room for this car....My other car is a 2012 AMG, a show car, and BMW Motorcycle.... And my wife has to have a bay, so this car has been sitting outside, getting pollen all over it ...

It really needs a new Home!

Look at my eBay profile, and the items I've sold. A lot of high ticket items....Last mos I sold my parents Bentley as they purchased a new car and didn't have the ability to market it. Just sold my BMW RS...

Good Luck Bidding!

Clark Gable's 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing doesn't sell, then does sell for $1.85 million [UPDATE: w/video]

Sat, 19 Jan 2013

How much extra value does previous celebrity ownership add to of a car? Really, there's no way to know until the car in question hits the auction block and bidders start raising their hands. In the case of the 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing you see above, the celebrity owner is none other than Clark Gable, who purchased it new. After Gable's death in 1960, the car changed hands a few times before settling with Charles Wood in 1975.
A high-dollar restoration was performed in 1989, and period accessories added by Gable himself were kept in place, including the Rudge knock-off wheels and Nardi steering wheel. Any Mercedes-Benz 300SL is worth a big chunk of money. In the case of Clark Gable's old Gullwing, the bidding stalled at $1.9 million here at the 2013 Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale. As one of the 5000-series cars, this 300SL carried a reserve, and a bit of after-the-fact dealmaking saw the car change hands for $1.85 million.

BMW 328i: it's 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gets called out for being more powerful and frugal than the six-cylinder it replaces.

Gordon Murray, F1-driven production and .. the Pontiac Fiero

Tue, Oct 31 2017

Gordon Murray's design and engineering chops are unquestionable. But does his carmaking approach owe something to the short-lived Pontiac Fiero, a scrappy little car program that emerged from GM against serious resistance? Murray had a Formula One career that ran from 1969 to 1991, with stints at Brabham ('69 to '86) and McLaren ('87-'91), that resulted in several shelves' worth of trophies for the cars he was instrumental in designing. He moved on to McLaren Cars, the consumer side of things, where, during his tenure from 1991 to 2004, he helped design the McLaren F1 and the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, two cars that took learnings from his two decades in Formula One. What do all of these cars have in common? Three things: They are light. They were built in limited numbers. And they were (and are) exceedingly expensive—when the McLaren F1 debuted in 1994, it stickered at $815,000. Murray went on to establish Gordon Murray Design in 2007. GMD has created some interesting concept vehicles, such as the diminutive T.25 city car (94.5 inches long, 51.1 inches wide and 55.1 inches high), and the OX, a lightweight truck for the developing world that packs like an IKEA shelf and is working toward realization through a worthy crowdfunding campaign established by the Global Vehicle Trust. Now he has created a vehicle manufacturing company, Gordon Murray Automotive, that will use manufacturing methods that he developed under the moniker "iStream." Unlike a unibody, there are the "iFrame," a cage-like construction made with metallic components, and the "iPanels," which are composite. The panels aren't simply a decorative skin; they actually provide structure to the vehicle. Presumably this has something of the F1 monocoque about it. Going back to the three elements, (1) this arrangement results in a vehicle that can be comparatively light; (2) Murray has indicated that his manufacturing company will be doing limited-run production; and (3) to launch Gordon Murray Automotive they are going to be building a flagship model, about which Murray said, "With our first new car, we will demonstrate a return to the design and engineering principles that have made the McLaren F1 such an icon." Which seems to imply that it will be on the pricey side. According to the company's verbiage, "iStream forges an entirely new production method that defies conventionality with its Formula One-derived construction and materials technologies." It also sounds a whole lot like ...
