1984 380sl Mercedes Benz on 2040-cars

Year:1984 Mileage:124095
Location:

Up for sale is a beautiful 1984 Mercedes Benz 380SL Convertible Hardtop from California.  It has not been driven very much over the past few years and the owners have decided to sell for this reason. This car has been garage kept and the paint is in near perfect condition. It has been well maintained and we are looking for a new owner who will appreciate the condition and enjoy the car as much as the current owners have over the past several years.
The good stuff about this classic:
This is a beautiful convertible hardtop with cream color paint and deep tan interior.
The paint and body are in very good condition. Since this is a California car, there are no signs of rust on the body.
The interior is equally as nice considering the age, but as shown in the picture, the driver’s door panel has a small split in it, near the arm rest. I’m told the door panels may still be available from Mercedes.
This car was well maintained by the dealer as well as two independent specialty Mercedes shops.  We have all the service records for the maintenance history. The Transmission shifts well and the car has no drive-train noise.
The brakes feel good but should be inspected before you put the car into service. All the gauges work but the odometer stopped reading last year. The owner has only put about 200 miles on the car since the odometer stopped reading.
The radio is original and works but the power antenna does not go up.
What the car needs:
The trunk needs a replacement spring to hold it up.
The tires are aged and show cracking should be replaced.
The chrome on the factory rims is good, some pitting, no rust, just need a good polishing.
It will need the antenna repaired or replaced.
The odometer needs to be repaired.
The engine smokes. This just started recently and the cause has not been confirmed. As it is smoking, it is being sold at a reduced price and is sold in “as-is” condition and well below market value. The repair will need to be made before you smog it.
This would be an excellent car if the engine was in top condition. You would have only basic service work to do aside from the engine smoking and have a near perfect 30 year old classic to drive daily.
The owners have asked that I handle the sale. If you have any questions please, “ask before you bid”. There are no refunds or cancellations after the purchase has been made.
If you are not local to Orange County, California, we will work with you to arrange the shipment of the car.  You are responsible for arranging the shipping company and paying for all shipping charges.

McLaren, Red Bull and Ferrari call for unfreezing F1 engines

Mon, Dec 29 2014

Formula One is a hugely expensive sport. Not only do you have enormous salaries and logistical expenses, as you would in any other sport, but each team also spends huge sums developing their own chassis from the ground up – and so too do the participating automakers in developing the engines. One of the ways the series organizers mitigate those costs is by freezing development. So once the new crop of V6 turbo hybrid powertrains were developed, that was it. But now three of the of the sport's leading teams are calling on the FIA to unfreeze engine development. Their reason? Unfair advantage. There's little question that Mercedes did the best job of developing its "power unit" to meet the new regulations that took effect at the beginning of this past season. That's how the Mercedes team won all but three of the grands prix this season and finished with at least one car on the podium at every single race. It's also a big part of how the teams that bought their engines from Mercedes this season managed to consistently outperform the other non-works-supported teams. That clear advantage is why Red Bull, Ferrari and now McLaren are calling for engine development to be unfrozen. Their argument is that, under the current locked-down status quo, their engine suppliers (Renault, Ferrari and Honda, respectively) cannot possibly catch up. So unless the FIA and Formula One Management want the next few seasons to be the kind of absolute blow-outs that this past season was, these leading teams argue, the powers that be are going to have to make some changes. For its part, Mercedes naturally counters that unfreezing engine development would send costs spiraling out of control. But then of course it stands to lose the most by re-opening engine development. If those three teams, however, closely intertwined as they are with the three other engine suppliers participating in next year's championship, manage to solicit enough support from the other customer teams and bring the matter to a vote, Mercedes may very well find itself out-numbered. Aston Martin's deal with Mercedes-AMG more than skin-deep

Tue, Jun 30 2015

Aston Martin is working on a raft of new models. But it's not going it alone: it has a technical partnership with Mercedes-AMG, the details of which have only been revealed in bits and pieces. If these latest spy shots are anything to go by, however, the arrangement could run deeper than anyone initially let on. Spied undergoing testing at the Nurburgring, this prototype for the upcoming successor to the Aston Martin DB9 is widely expected to be called the DB11 (10 is being used by James Bond's new ride). From the outside it doesn't look different than the previous versions we've seen running around, but this time we can also peer into the cabin, and that's where things start to get interesting. Despite the best arm-waving efforts by the development engineers, our spy photographers managed to snap a couple of shots of the interior. And though it looks far from being ready for production, the components we see appear to have been lifted from the Mercedes S-Class Coupe – particularly the steering wheel, digital instrument cluster, and almost the entire center console. This speaks to a deeper collaboration between the British and German automakers. The 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 from the Mercedes-AMG GT, C63, and G500 4x42 is already being adapted for use in the next generation of Astons. Related Video:

Mercedes fits new C-Class with AMG kit

Sat, 28 Dec 2013

It's only been a week and a half since Mercedes-Benz revealed the new C-Class, and it'll likely be a while yet before the replacement for the C63 AMG comes along. But if you want to see a preview of what it'll look like, look no further than the AMG aero kit that has just surfaced.
Expected to debut on the new C-Class at the fast-approaching Detroit Auto Show, the AMG Line Exterior Pack adds a new bumpers front and rear, side skirts, dual exhaust tips, mesh grille, aluminum window frames and - most importantly - 18-inch alloys packing upgraded brakes and fitted to a lowered sport suspension. All of which will help any C-Class look the part, even if the engine remains stock.
