1981 Mercedes 380 SLC

C107 380 V8 Coupe

Justin 503-969-5127

Hello and thanks for checking out my auction.  On eBay today we have a cool and collectable 1981 Mercedes-Benz 380 SLC.  This is the 4 seat coupe version and the top is fixed, in other words it does not come off..  I used to see these cars all the time but as the years pass, they continue to disappear from the roads..  Funny side note, I went to Palm Springs, CA last spring and saw lots of them..  Funny that they all migrated south to the desert..

This car is one of the last SLCs to be produced..  1981 was the last year these cars were made.  These cars were used in racing and rallies in all sorts of configurations..  They are a well built, solid coupe with a strong V8 engine..  At this time Mercedes was making the best built cars on the road.  This car helps prove that.

The car is Bright Silver Metallic with a Navy Blue Leather Interior.  The paint is good, but not perfect.  It was redone several years ago and still shines well.  There are no dents or dings or scratches.  It has just been professionally buffed and waxed.  The Mercedes Chrome Spoke wheels are rare and beautiful.  There is no pealing chrome or curb rash.  The tires are 95%.

The interior is nice.  The Navy leather is still in good condition and original.  The carpet is clean and bright, the headliner is clean and tight too.

The power windows work, the blinkers and all the lights and instruments too.  The wipers are great.  The sunroof works but slowly..  I find that it likes to be assisted with a little extra hand pressure.  The heater and defrost work well, but the A/C is not blowing cold.  All the belts are hooked up and all of the parts are there.  It may just need a charge.

The engine is the best part of this car.  It runs perfectly and starts instantly in any temperature even after months of sitting.  It does not smoke or use oil.  It leaves nothing on the garage floor.  It is powerful and smooth at the same time.  It is also clean..  Not detailed clean, but kept clean.  The oil and filters were regularly changed and all the hoses and belts are in good condition.  The transmission shifts smoothly between all gears and never skips, slips or drips.

All in all this is a good Mercedes.  I think it would make the perfect car for a vacation pad or a weekend run-a-bout.  It would also be fun to use for vintage auto rallies.  You could drive it every day if you wanted to, but these cars can be expensive to maintain so I find that if I limit my driving, the car will cost much less to own..   With that said, vintage European vehicles require a good trustworthy mechanic.  If you are new to this type of car, find a place with a long track record and remembers these cars.  Even if it costs a little more, it will be worth it in the long run.  When you use a mechanic like this they can help you plan for maintenance expenses ahead of time.

This 380 SLC has a ton of vintage appeal and will surely be one to hold on to for future appreciation.

I am selling the car with a very low reserve and I know the Mercedes will sell the first go around as long as we all play by these rules.

#1.  Only bid if you have intentions to buy.

#2. Ask any and all questions before bidding.

#4. This is an AS-IS sale.  I have done my best to describe it exactly as I see it but it has no warranties or guarantees.

Just be real and genuine and I will make sure that the winning bidder is happy with his or her purchase.  I have 100% positive feedback and I plan on keeping that.  Also, I will end the sale for the right offer so don’t wait till the last second and worry about missing out.  Just call me and we will work out a fair price..

NHTSA, IIHS, and 20 automakers to make auto braking standard by 2022

Thu, Mar 17 2016

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and virtually every automaker in the US domestic market have announced a pact to make automatic emergency braking standard by 2022. Here's the full rundown of companies involved: BMW, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar Land Rover, Kia, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Subaru, Tesla, Toyota, Volkswagen, and Volvo (not to mention the brands that fall under each automaker's respective umbrella). Like we reported yesterday, AEB will be as ubiquitous in the future as traction and stability control are today. But the thing to note here is that this is not a governmental mandate. It's truly an agreement between automakers and the government, a fact that NHTSA claims will lead to widespread adoption three years sooner than a formal rule. That fact in itself should prevent up to 28,000 crashes and 12,000 injuries. The agreement will come into effect in two waves. For the majority of vehicles on the road – those with gross vehicle weights below 8,500 pounds – AEB will need to be standard equipment by September 1, 2022. Vehicles between 8,501 and 10,000 pounds will have an extra three years to offer AEB. "It's an exciting time for vehicle safety. By proactively making emergency braking systems standard equipment on their vehicles, these 20 automakers will help prevent thousands of crashes and save lives," said Secretary of Transportation Anthony Foxx said in an official statement. "It's a win for safety and a win for consumers." Read on for the official press release from NHTSA. Automakers making the commitment are Audi, BMW, FCA US LLC, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar Land Rover, Kia, Maserati, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi Motors, Nissan, Porsche, Subaru, Tesla Motors Inc., Toyota, Volkswagen and Volvo Car USA.

Aston Martin and Daimler continue talks on SUV project, CEO required

Tue, 01 Apr 2014

The Aston Martin Lagonda SUV concept revealed at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show didn't earn the plaudits the company is used to when it reveals new models, and it has lived an uncertain life ever since. Thought to have been scrapped along with the entire revival of the Lagonda brand, then thought to have been resurrected due to Chinese, Middle Eastern and Russian demand, another year passed before we heard more definitive talk about an Aston Martin expansion when AutoCar reported that the Lagonda could be built on one of Mercedes-Benz's AMG SUV platforms.
A report in Automotive News Europe indicates plans have gotten serious, its unnamed sources saying that the English carmaker is talking to Daimler "to extend their cooperation to building an SUV." Neither Daimler, Aston Martin nor Investindustrial, the managing partner among Aston Martin's ownership consortium, would comment. But with Investindustrial having pledged to expand the range, competitors like Bentley, Maserati and Lamborghini getting into the SUV racket and clear demand from current and future customers, it's easy to believe Aston Martin is working hard to put the pieces together.
One further potential bump on the road to an Aston SUV is the company's search for a new CEO. Ulrich Bez relinquished to top spot at the company at the end of 2013, and Aston reportedly will not finalize its model strategy without a new CEO in place.

Autoblog's Editors' Picks: Our complete list of the best new vehicles

Mon, May 13 2024

It's not easy to earn an “EditorsÂ’ Picks” at Autoblog as part of the rating and review process that every new vehicle goes through. Our editors have been at it a long time, which means weÂ’ve driven and reviewed virtually every new car you can go buy on the dealer lot. There are disagreements, of course, and all vehicles have their strengths and weaknesses, but this list features what we think are the best new vehicles chosen by Autoblog editors. We started this formal review process back in 2018, so there's quite of few of them now. So what does it mean to be an EditorsÂ’ Pick? In short, it means itÂ’s a car that we can highly recommend purchasing. There may be one, multiple, or even zero vehicles in any given segment that we give the green light to. What really matters is that itÂ’s a vehicle that weÂ’d tell a friend or family member to go buy if theyÂ’re considering it, because itÂ’s a very good car. The best way to use this list is is with the navigation links below. Click on a segment, and you'll quickly arrive at the top rated pickup truck or SUV, for example. Use the back button to return to these links and search in another segment, like sedans. If youÂ’ve been keeping up with our monthly series of the latest vehicles to earn EditorsÂ’ Pick status, youÂ’re likely going to be familiar with this list already. If not, welcome to the complete list that weÂ’ll be keeping updated as vehicles enter (and others perhaps exit) the good graces of our editorial team. We rate a new car — giving it a numerical score out of 10 — every time thereÂ’s a significant refresh or if it happens to be an all-new model. Any given vehicle may be impressive on a first drive, but we wait until itÂ’s in the hands of our editors to put it through the same type of testing as every other vehicle that rolls through our test fleet before giving it the EditorsÂ’ Pick badge. This ensures consistency and allows more voices to be heard on each individual model. And just so you donÂ’t think weÂ’ve skipped trims or variants of a model, we hand out the EditorsÂ’ Pick based on the overarching model to keep things consistent. So, when you read that the 3 Series is an EditorsÂ’ Pick, yes, that includes the 330i to the M3 and all the variants in between. If thereÂ’s a particular version of that car we vehemently disagree with, we make sure to call that out.
