Year:1974 Mileage:76989 Color: PAINT
Location:

THIS MERCEDES RUNS AND DRIVES VERY GOOD (M117 ENGINE)!

THE ENGINE FIRES RIGHT UP AND IT HAS A SMOOTH IDLE AND EXCELLENT POWER.  THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SHIFTS SMOOTHLY AND THE RIDE IS SOLID AND QUIET.  THIS CAR IS A PLEASURE TO DRIVE!

I AM A PRIVATE OWNER AND I HAVE OWNED THIS CAR SINCE MAY 2013. I HAVE SINCE TREATED THIS CAR WITH MUCH CARE AND LOVE AS DID THE PREVIOUS OWNER WHO MADE ME PROMISE I WOULD TAKE GOOD CARE OF IT.  NO EXPENSE HAS BEEN SPARED TO KEEP THIS CAR IN VERY GOOD MECHANICAL CONDITION!

ALL MECHANICAL MAINTENANCE IS UP-TO-DATE!

THIS 450SL HAS BEEN TREATED TO MANY UPDATES AND/OR NEW PARTS IN THE LAST FEW YEARS.  THIS INCLUDES: NARDI STEERING WHEEL,NEW EXTERIOR PAINT, NEW SOFT TOP, NEW SEAT UPHOLSTERY, NEW CARPET, NEW STEREO, AND NUMEROUS NEW MECHANICAL PARTS INCLUDING FUEL PUMP AND FILTER, NEW ALTERNATOR, NEW HIGHER VOLTAGE IGNITION COIL, NEW SHOCKS ALL AROUND, NEW SPARK PLUGS AND WIRES, NEW ROTOR AND DISTRIBUTOR CAP. ALL FLUIDS HAVE BEEN DRAINED, INCLUDING DIFFERENTIAL, TRANSMISSION, ENGINE, POWER STEERING, ANTIFREEZE AND BRAKE FLUIDS!

THERE IS VERY LITTLE TO  DO TO TURN THIS MACHINE INTO A COMPLETE RESTORATION.

THE EXTERIOR LOOKS VERY NICE WITH GLOSSY TAN PAINT, CHROME WHEELS, NICE CHROME TRIM, VERY GOOD BUMPERS, A NEW BROWN SOFT TOP, A MATCHING TAN HARD TOP IN GOOD CONDITION WITH A COUPLE OF SCRATCHES AROUND THE LIP , GOOD GLASS ALL AROUND, AND MORE!

EXTERIOR BLEMISHES ARE: RUST ON THE UNDERCARRIAGE IN SEVERAL SPOTS, SOME TAN PAINT OVERSPRAY ON THE BODY IN SPOTS, A FEW SMALL AREAS OF BUBBLING RUST ON THE BODY UNDER THE PAINT, BUBBLES ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE TOP OF HEADLIGHT , AND SOME CHROME PITTING/BUBBLING ON THE TRUNK AREA.  YOU CAN SEE MULTIPLE PICTURES OF ALL THESE BLEMISHES BELOW THIS DESCRIPTION.  YOU DON'T NOTICE THE BODY RUST AND PAINT OVERSPRAY ISSUES UNLESS YOU ARE VERY CLOSE TO THE CAR.  OTHER THAN THE MENTIONED ISSUES, THE EXTERIOR LOOKS VERY NICE!

THE INTERIOR LOOKS EXCELLENT!  IT HAS NEW SEAT UPHOLSTERY, NEW CARPET THROUGHOUT, AFTERMARKET STEREO, NICE DOOR PANELS, EXCELLENT CHROME TRIM, AND MORE!

THE TRUE MILEAGE IS UNKNOWN.  THE ODOMETER SHOWS 76,989  MILES, BUT IT DOES NOT WORK.  THE CAR HAS ABOUT 95,000 MILES ON IT ACCORDING TO THE PREVIOUS OWNER; I MYSELF ADDED ANOTHER 1500 MILES DURING MY OWNERSHIP.

THE POWER WINDOWS, POWER BRAKES, POWER STEERING, AUDIO SYSTEM, A/C BLOWER, A/C CONTROLS, POWER ANTENNA, AND DASH GAUGES ALL WORK GREAT!  WHAT DOESN'T WORK IS: THE A/C ITSELF (BLOWS WARM AIR), CRUISE CONTROL, HAZARD LIGHTS, AND THE ANALOG CLOCK (WORKS SOMETIMES). TIRES WOULD NEED TO BE CHANGED IF TAKING LONG TRIPS.

THE NY STATE INSPECTION DOES NOT EXPIRE UNTIL MAY 2015. THE CAR WILL PASS STATE INSPECTION ANYWHERE. BEFORE DELIVERY I WILL HAVE TO REPLACE THE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH THAT STOPPED WORKING RECENTLY. I WILL REPLACE IT WITH A NEW ONE BEFORE DELIVERY.

Autoblog fan favorite car ads from Super Bowl XLIX

Mon, Feb 2 2015

Super Bowl XLIX is in the books, and the New England Patriots emerged victorious. Of course, if you're like us, the big game wasn't so much about the battle between the east coast and west, so much as a fight between the world's automotive advertisers. We collected and collated all of last night's new ads and put them together for you to vote on. And yes, we're limiting this year's contest to last night's new features. That's why you aren't seeing Dodge's epic Wisdom among our collection of commercials, and it's a similar story with Chevrolet's Truck Guy Focus Group series, which highlights the new Colorado. You can still vote for your favorites. We won't be closing the voting on our Super Bowl page, so while the winners and losers are correct as of this writing, it's entirely possible that there could be some changes in the rankings as time goes on. So, without any further ado, here are the winning ads based on your voting. Nissan: With Dad Fiat: Ready For Action Jeep: Beautiful Lands BMW: Newfangled Idea Mercedes-Benz: Fable NASCAR: America Start Your Engines As for those ads that failed to impact you, loyal readers, Toyota was the absolute, undisputed loser. The Japanese brand ran four ads in total – two for Toyota and two for Lexus – and all of them have negative tallies as of this writing. Lexus' Make Some Noise and Lets Play and Toyota's One Bold Choice and My Bold Dad both had very weak showings among the commercials that aired, although they weren't alone. Neither Mazda nor Kia scored particularly well, despite featuring celebrity magic act Penn and Teller and former James Bond, Pierce Brosnan, respectively. Chevrolet was the winner of the losers, as of our writing, recording the fewest downvotes for its audience-punking The Big Game ad. If you want to take a second look at the losing ads, you can head back to our Super Bowl page for the complete collection. But for now, head into Comments and let us know what you think of the results.

U.S. tariff threat hits European automakers' stocks

Thu, May 24 2018

FRANKFURT, Germany — A U.S. warning that it may introduce tariffs on foreign auto imports hit shares in German carmakers BMW, Daimler and Volkswagen on Thursday, which together have a more than 90 percent share of North America's premium car market. Washington said on Wednesday it had launched an investigation into whether car and truck imports are a national security issue due to signs they had damaged the U.S. auto industry. That could lead to new U.S. tariffs — up to 25 percent — similar to those imposed on imported steel and aluminum in March. BMW and Daimler shares fell as much as 3.1 percent in early Thursday trading, while Volkswagen's dropped as much as 2.5 percent. "(U.S. President) Donald Trump is obviously not thinking about how to prevent a trade war. Import duties on cars would be a nightmare for the German auto industry and would lead to a massive sales impact," said Thomas Altmann at Frankfurt-based asset manager QC Partners. BMW on Thursday condemned the move to consider tariffs. "The BMW Group is committed to free trade worldwide. Barrier-free access to markets is therefore a key factor not only for our business model, but also for growth welfare and employment throughout the global economy," it said. Daimler, which makes Mercedes-Benz cars, and Volkswagen, which makes upmarket Audis and Porsches, were not immediately available for comment. German carmakers produced 804,000 cars at local factories in the United States and exported 657,000 German-made cars into North America last year, according to German auto industry association VDA. China took pains on Thursday to welcome German firms and investments, with Premier Li Keqiang talking up relations after a meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel. BMW and Mercedes have expanded production capacity in the United States, but BMW, Audi, Volkswagen and Daimler have also invested billions to build new factories in Mexico in the hope of selling locally produced cars into the United States. German carmakers hiked vehicle production in Mexico by 46 percent to 620,000 cars last year, while production levels inside the United States fell by 6 percent to 804,000 cars because of a shift to Mexico, according to the VDA. BMW has its biggest factory worldwide in Spartanburg, South Carolina, and is the largest vehicle exporter among all the carmakers in the United States measured by value of goods exported. More than 70 percent of BMW's U.S.-made cars are exported.

Mercedes chief invites Audi, BMW to compete in F1

Thu, Dec 4 2014

Mercedes-Benz didn't just win the Formula One World Championship in 2014 – it positively dominated it. The team won all but three of the grands prix this season, scoring a one-two finish at more than half of them and landing at least one car on the podium at every race without exception. It goes without saying, then, that the German automaker thrives on competition, but now it's welcoming even more. Speaking with Germany's Sport Bild at its homecoming celebration in Stuttgart, Daimler chief Dieter Zetsche welcomed Mercedes' biggest rivals Audi and BMW to join it on the F1 grid. Noting that the three German brands share some 80 percent of the market for luxury automobiles, Zetsche said that F1 would make a natural arena of competition for Mercedes, Audi and BMW to fight for top bragging rights. The three currently compete against each other in front of home audiences in the DTM touring car series – effectively Germany's equivalent to NASCAR – but of the ten races held this year, the majority were in Germany itself, and all of them took place in Europe. BMW last competed in F1 when it bought the Sauber team in 2006, but withdrew from the series in 2009. Despite its progenitor Auto Union having fielded the famous Silver Arrows in pre-war grand prix racing, Audi has never been a player in modern F1 racing, though recent rumors have linked it to a potential foray – spurred by the arrival of sister-company Porsche on its home turf at Le Mans, the departure of several of its key endurance drivers and the hiring of former Scuderia Ferrari chief Stefano Domenicali. Porsche had similarly considered an F1 program before getting the go-ahead to compete with Audi at Le Mans. As for the prospect of Mercedes competing in other international racing series, Zetsche added that year-long preparations for 24 hours of racing at Le Mans didn't present a good cost-benefit ratio in his estimation, but that Formula E (where Audi currently supports a quasi-works entry) would be worth a closer look.
