This rare model was only produced worldwide by Mercedes Benz for two years in 1972 and 1973. This 1972 model also has the distinction of having the later production 4.5L V8 instead of the earlier 3.5L V8. Big performance and driveability difference between these engines. Since it is a USA spec car it conforms to all 50 state EPA/DOT requirements including California and all the certification stickers/badges attesting to this are present. I purchased this car from the original female owner in 1986 when it had 22,000 miles and have driven it only 2000 miles more since. She provided me with all the original owners manuals and the factory hardtop removal tool. Additionally just prior to purchase she paid $4600+ for a transmission rebuild (original warranty card included) and new German fabric soft top which included all three new plastic window sections.

The car has been in garage kept storage and not driven since 1995 when I moved to my current address. The first picture shown is the car seeing the light of day for the first time since 1995 : what many refer to as a "barn find" moment. Just prior to that I had a lubrication service, tune up including spark plugs, points & condensor (remember those?) new fuel pump and filters. Tires are matching BF Goodrich TA radials from 1994 and have always held air without fail. When last started the engine ran and drove flawlessly and without any drama the way these vintage Mercedes should when maintained. The air conditioning was working when last used prior to long term storage as was the power antenna. Prior to storage the nearly empty fuel tank was treated to a fuel system stabilizer and then the engine was run for about 10 mins after to circulate fuel/conditioner mix. The car has not been started since including the moment these pics were taken. I strongly suggest removing & draining the fuel tank plus flushing the fuel injection system with a quality cleaning agent prior to starting the engine again. Will also need a new battery since the "new" one in it was installed in 1994.

The previous owner unfortunately decided she didn't like the factory original Silver paint and changed the color to Signal Red. The door jambs were also painted this color for uniformity. The factory hardtop and steel hubcap centers retain the original Silver color. The hard top was stored hanging off the ground as seen in the pics and the soft top left up in the locked position to maintain its shape without creases or stress. All the exterior trim from the bumpers, grille and door handles are in much better than average condition. There is also a set of four German made 16" Centra chrome wheels w/o centercaps that are included in the final sale price. As an added bonus as seen in the pics the car has the much more expensive and attractive Euro headlights fitted currently. The original quad headlights are not present.

Regarding the condition of the sheet metal and car body : all the major panels are solid from the aluminum hood & trunk to the fenders, doors and quarter panels. These vintage vehicles like any from that era did not have the advanced rust proofing/prevention materials we currently enjoy today. As seen clearly in the pics there is rust thru in the areas of the rocker panel on the drivers side and less so but still evident on the passenger side. Included in the final sale price of the car are brand new *Tabco steel replacement rocker panels in their original shipping box. There is also rust in the areas of the wheel wells directly behind the front wheels and ahead of the rear wheels in the same areas. Look closely and you'll see that much of the peeling is in fact the thick industrial grade rubberized undercoating they used at the factory. You can see in places the metal underneath not having what initially looks like significant rusting. These are issues that can be remedied by any competent body shop. This listing is being made to the best of my ability to represent the items needing attention to restore this car. It is being sold as a worthy restoration candidate due to its rarity (only year of two produced that meets USA EPA/DOT specifications) and extremely low mileage : about 600 miles/year.

Since it was built prior to model year 1975 NY State did not issue titles then but only transferable registrations such as this car has. The car retains it's last registration issued in 1985 and expiring in 1986. This is the means that ownership transfer will entail. This is a seven day NO RESERVE listing and as such the last bidder owns the car. DO NOT bid unless you have the means and funds set aside and ahead to complete your legally binding purchase obligation upon bidding completion. I reserve the right to end this listing prior to completion since the car is also advertised in other selling forums. If you have less than 5 positive purchase completion ratings by eBay or are a first time bidder here you MUST call me at 914-456-1215 prior to bidding otherwise I reserve the right to reject your bid. Upon close of bidding the winning bidder must contact me immediately after eBay confirms your winning bid via emailing us both then make a 25% deposit of the purchase price within 48 hours. The remaining balance is due within 5 business days of deposit. That gives you the luxury of seven full days to complete purchase. This car is being sold AS IS and has no existing warranty. Shipping and delivery costs associated with this sale are the responsibility of the buyer.

Finally since this is a NO RESERVE auction the car is being sold to the last and highest bidder no matter the price. Please be aware that the reserve is ridiculously reasonable for the sake of completing a sale and as such do not attempt to contact me and ask what it is. It will be worth the wait and your bid plus I will not end the bidding early for any reason other than those stated previously thereby insuring everyone a fair chance at winning the bid. Thank you for viewing my listing here and happy bidding to all.

2013 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT Coupe

Thu, 31 Jan 2013

Mercedes-Benz upgraded its SLS flagship Coupe and Roadster for the 2013 model year, and the changes are marked with them new "GT" nomenclature. Both SLS models arrive with a retuned naturally aspired 6.2-liter V8 delivering 583 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque (the horses are up from 563, but the torque remains the same) mated to a revised seven-speed AMG Speedshift dual-clutch gearbox. Rounding out the mechanical upgrades is a redeveloped AMG two-mode adaptive suspension. Physically, the revised models are differentiated by their new "GT" badging, darkened headlight/taillight buckets, red brake calipers, unique wheel colors and high gloss finish on the front grille, exterior mirrors and hood/fender fins. Inside the cabin are new red seatbelts, Alcantara upholstery and contrasting red stitching.
As it is nearly impossible to experience the aluminum gullwing beast on public roads, Mercedes invited out to Southern California's Willow Springs to wring out the 2013 SLS GT Coupe on a racing circuit.

2013 Mercedes-Benz GLK250 Bluetec gets 33 mpg, priced from $38,950*

Tue, 30 Apr 2013

It's been more than a year since we first saw the 2013 Mercedes-Benz GLK250 Bluetec unveiled at the 2012 New York Auto Show, but it looks like the compact diesel crossover is finally starting to roll into dealerships. Those wanting to buy a diesel GLK will only have to pony up an extra $1,500 over a base, gas-powered GLK350, as the GLK250's starting price is listed at $38,590 (*not including $905 destination charge).
The turbocharged 2.1-liter four-cylinder diesel produces 200 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque, and Mercedes-Benz has also provided some fuel economy numbers for this model, with claimed EPA estimates of 24 miles per gallon city and 33 mpg highway. There is no listing for the GLK250 on the EPA's website yet, but the figures represent significant increase over the GLK350's lackluster 19 mpg city and 25 mpg highway figures, which are for the rear-wheel drive model. The GLK250 comes standard with the 4Matic all-wheel-drive system - a $2,000 option on GLK350 - meaning that if you want an all-wheel-drive version of the 2013 GLK, it's actually cheaper to opt for the diesel model. Head over to the Mercedes-Benz site for the full 2013 GLK-Class configurator.

The 10 car brands most expensive to maintain over 10 years

Mon, Apr 22 2024

Car maintenance has got to be one of the least fun things you can do with your free time, right behind going to the dentist and filing your taxes. However, depending on the brand you buy, your time spent at the shop could be much more than you bargained for. Consumer Reports’ new study on the most- and least-expensive-to-maintain car brands found that European car companies are most likely to break your wallet with costs nearly five times that of the automakers at the other end of the spectrum. Land Rover had the highest ten-year maintenance costs, at an average of $19,250. Porsche was second worst with $14,090 in costs. 10 car brands most expensive to maintain over 10 years: Land Rover: $19,250 Porsche: $14,090 Mercedes-Benz: $10,525 Audi: $9,890 BMW: $9,500 Volvo: $9,285 Infiniti: $8,500 Acura: $7,800 Mini: $7,625 Subaru: $7,200 The Euro brands at the “top” of this list arenÂ’t all that surprising. Land Rover has consistently landed as one of the most expensive vehicle brands to maintain for years now, though Porsche is generally viewed as being one of the more solid performance brands. That could suggest that some models donÂ’t always require more repairs, but the fixes they do need are significantly more expensive. Tesla, Buick, and Toyota were the three cheapest to maintain car brands, with 10-year maintenance costs of $4,035, $4,900, and $4,900, respectively. Consumer Reports noted that these numbers could be slightly skewed due to the fact that some automakers offer free maintenance for the first few years of ownership, and all companies cover their new vehicles for at least a few years after the purchase. Routine maintenance is a great way to avoid costly repairs over time, as itÂ’s much cheaper to catch a problem before it starts causing other issues. Check your oil, rotate your tires, and avoid driving like a wild person, and youÂ’ll likely fare much better than others, even if you own one of the scarier-to-maintain brands.
