1968 Mercedes-benz Sl-class Sl on 2040-cars
Porterville, California, United States
Just email me at: elvira.persia@chewiemail.com .
Purchased new at Fox Brothers in Hollywood Ca. and lovingly cared for by the original owner until 2007, the current
owner has used the car sparingly since and has added only 13K during their ownership.
The California Coupe was a special order 280SL that deleted the top well and soft top creating enough space for a
full width folding back seat while retaining the removable hard top. A true two owner black plate California car,
it has always been garaged, and it has spent it’s entire life exclusively in Southern California. It has never
been hit and has never seen rust. In fact, all panels have matching numbers and all of the factory spot welds are
undisturbed.
Obviously well cared for, the bodywork has been repainted once in the original Tobacco Brown and shows well but
there are a few flaws worth noting. The hard top has a few paint blisters on the leading edge above the windshield,
and there are some minor paint chips on the edge of the hood. All of the chrome and trim are original Mercedes-Benz
pieces and still look nice.
Inside, the cognac colored MB Tex seats were reupholstered at one time and still look great but there are some
splits in the headliner. All gauges and controls work well, but the dealer installed AC does not blow cold and
would probably benefit from a recharge. The carpets are original and look good but show some wear on the driver’s
side. The dash cover has a few minor cracks, and the wood trim on the dashboard has some decay on the driver’s
side edge.
Mechanically it runs and drives well and has been well maintained. Powered by the 2.8 liter six cylinder coupled
with a four speed automatic transmission, it has never been rebuilt and has had only routine maintenance as
required throughout the years.

Next Mercedes-Benz GLK to get AMG variant? Not likely...
Fri, 15 Mar 2013If you think Mercedes-Benz will slap an AMG badge on anything with wheels, think again. Word has it the German manufacturer will not offer buyers a performance version of the GLK, with Tobias Moers, director of AMG vehicle development, saying that he doesn't see a market for the car. That's not to say the picture won't change in the near future, however. According to CarAdvice.com, AMG is keeping a close eye on the arrival of the Porsche Macan.
"Maybe there will be a change in the market when the Porsche [Macan] comes up," Moers said, "but right now, no."
The real hitch in the giddy-up seems to be cost. Moers says developing the machine into something worthy of an AMG would represent "a huge investment." We can't exactly argue with that. Fortunately, AMG buyers have plenty of Mercedes-Benz models to choose from.
European automakers gear up for Brazilian production
Mon, 07 Oct 2013Brazil is the place to be, apparently. Toyota has been investing in the South American country, as has BMW, which announced a $261 million investment in October 2012, on the heels of an Audi factory announcement in San José Chiapa. The high-end immigration is only set to continue, as Mercedes-Benz and Jaguar-Land Rover have both announced plans to set up manufacturing operations there.
Mercedes is the big news here, as its new facility will see the German manufacturer invest 170-million euros for production of its next-generation C-Class and upcoming GLA-Class. "Brazil is an important future market. With our local production we accept the challenge and take on the competition," noted Andreas Renschler, Management Board member for Production and Procurement at Mercedes-Benz Cars and Mercedes-Benz Vans. Production is expected to begin by 2016.
Jaguar-Land Rover, meanwhile, isn't so concrete in its plans. The news of its investment in South America comes from a job posting for a plant quality manager in Brazil that was picked up by the UK's AutoCar. "Portuguese language skills will be definite advantage" for interested candidates, according to the job listing. The want ad follows on the heels of remarks by Jaguar Land Rover's Dr. Ralph Speth, who said there are "very intensive discussions" with Brazil's government. Unlike Mercedes, there's no mention of which vehicles will be produced in South America, although AutoCar thinks the Freelander, sold in the US as the LR2, is a leading contender.
Mercedes-Benz GLA Concept crossover leaked ahead of Shanghai debut
Wed, 17 Apr 2013With just a few days left before the start of the Shanghai Motor Show, images of the Mercedes-Benz GLA Concept compact crossover have emerged online. The little 'ute is based on the small A-Class hatchback, and though it shares an identical wheelbase, is larger in every other dimension.
Looking like a rough-and-tumble five-door hatchback on the tippy toes of its 20-inch wheels, the GLA is most certainly destined for production in a toned down form that will borrow many bits and pieces from other cars based on this platform like the aforementioned A-Class and the CLA-Class sedan. Carscoop reports that the production version of the GLA will be revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September of this year, with sales to the public starting in 2014.
Since it's based on the A-Class, we expect that the production GLA-Class will be powered by your choice of Mercedes' 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine and a diesel or two, and will offer transmissions that include the company's seven-speed DCT and perhaps a six-speed manual (at least in Europe). If the GLA follows the same path as the two cars before it, expect a GLA45 AMG producing over 300 horsepower, as well. As for what powers the GLA Concept, that just might remain a mystery until the vehicle is officially revealed in China.
