This 2007 Mercedes GL450 is an awesome SUV. Big enough for three rows of seats and lots of luggage/cargo space, but not so huge that your spouse will refuse to drive it (like mine does with my Suburban). It drives beautifully, has traction with its 4Matic system like a mountain goat, has great power, and is very reliable. This one has never had any paint or bodywork ever, and not a single problem. Best of all, it’s fully loaded with fantastic options, and has an extensive documented service history from Mercedes, with all service documentation provided to the winning bidder.

-- Here she is in all her glory --

The big issue with GL450’s is that you rarely find a great one with all the right options in the right color combination. Well, you can stop looking, because you just found it! This GL450 is Everest green metallic over macadamia interior. Factory options include P1 package, navigation, factory rear-seat DVD entertainment, parktronic, sunroof package, power folding third-row seats, power liftgate, 20” aluminum wheels, satellite radio, aluminum step-rails, and more! This one is immaculate and fully loaded, so please read on to find out more.

Here's the deal:

-- She's a 2007 GL450 4Matic in everest green over macadamia interior, with matching macadamia carpets and headliner. This GL450 has 113,xxx miles, only two owners, and a clean carfax with no accidents. It looks like a million bucks, and no rust anywhere. This car was LOVED, and has NEVER had any paint or bodywork to her body panels. In fact, there’s hardly a scratch anywhere, and no dings, dents, or scuffs. --

-- Exterior 9.90 out of 10 - Fantastic overall condition paint, body, glass, and trim. No dings. No dents. No scuffs. ZERO. She looks amazing, with a deep shine to the Everest green metallic paint that's like looking into an endless mirror. This car has been paint metered and every body panel is original and wears its original paint. This car looks great even under fluorescent light in a garage. --

-- The lower side-body moldings are in great shape. The chrome, rubber, glass, and trim is all excellent and original. No oxidation, fade, wear, rust, etc. Look at the body panels.....they are laser straight. --

-- This GL450 is loaded, with an original MSRP of close to $70K! Options include premium I package (including parktronic, memory seats, autodim/folding mirrors, DVD COMAND navigation, Sirius radio, HK stereo, and power liftgate), 20” 5-spoke alloys, heated seats, sunroof package with dual glass roofs, power-fold 3rd row seats, airmatic suspension, electric hinged rear-side windows, aluminum step-rails, and rear seat DVD entertainment package. Wow! --

-- This GL450 has 20” 5-spoke staggered sport wheels in great shape, all true with no cracks or bends. The tires are worn out, but at the BIN price I will include a set of Continental 275/50/20 tires in good used condition. This GL450 has a fresh alignment and Hunter Roadforce balancing of all tires. It goes arrow-straight down the road at high speed with no shimmy, pull, or anything else. --

-- Interior 9.25 out of 10 - The interior overall including all seating and door leather, seat padding, dash, console, wood, and carpets are in great original condition. No dash cracks, carpet rips, zero wear of any kind on the leather. Everything looks and feels new. This car was garaged every day of its life and it shows. This is the ORIGINAL UNDETAILED interior (just a wash and vacuum). --

-- The door panels, wood trim, and headliner are also in great shape, like the rest of the truck. --

-- Even the hatch is great. --

-- Electrical 10 out of 10 - All lights, switches, radio, windows, wipers, seat motors/memory/pulse, top motors, and power mirrors work perfectly. Vacuum lock system, nav, remote key, interior lights all operating as they should. --

-- The big issue with the GL450 at higher mileage is the transmission. Well guess what? The trans has been replaced by Mercedes for over $5000! The Airmatic air suspension system is operating properly with no leaks. The HVAC system is fast to respond, and operates perfectly with scalding hot heat and ice-cold A/C. DVD system works great. Seat heaters all working properly. –

-- Mechanical 10 out of 10 - Engine starts, idles, runs, and revs to redline in every gear smooth and strong. Transmission is smooth yet very aggressive, and downshifts eagerly. No abrupt engagement, just silky smooth shifts. She runs at high speed with no vibrations or noises. There are no leaks....NONE. --

-- This GL450 has passed THREE inspections with flying colors. A pre-purchase overall inspection with paint meter and test drive, a mechanical/electrical/body/frame inspection, and an authorized Mercedes Benz dealer has gone over it as well. After their final and thorough inspection for any problems, this GL450 is ready to roll. --

-- Engine is strong and eager to run, transmission smooth and ready to drop down two gears at your command to rocket you past slower traffic. Brakes are solid and pedal feel is firm. Suspension is tight like new, no worn tie rod ends, ball joints, struts, or anything else. Steering nicely weighted with no play in the box. ZERO leaks or noises. This car drives and handles like new. --

-- This GL450 comes with books, tool kit, carfax, two remote keys, and EVERY SINGLE MB service record since she was new all the way back to day one! That means EIGHT PAGES of FOUR POINT TYPE documenting all service done at the Benz dealer; new front airmatic struts, complete tune-up including spark plugs, Mobil 1 oil changes, front and rear brakes (all done within the last 15K miles!!), alignment, light bulbs, wiper blades, air filters…..EVERYTHING! --

-- This GL does not have any signs of wear, no rubber rot, no leaks, no suspension or 4Matic problems, no lukewarm A/C....NOTHING. Everything is in fantastic shape, and at ‘only’ 113K miles, it's not even close to broken in yet! --

-- If someone selects the buy-it-now option, I will provide the following: the Continental 20” tires mentioned above. A full $200 detailing including engine bay, carpet shampoo, leather conditioning, orbital polishing, etc. I'll also supply Toughguard protectant for the paint, which you have to see to believe. It will bead water, seal, and UV protect the paint for FIVE YEARS, GUARANTEED....no future waxings necessary. I know it sounds like a B.S. late-night TV claim, but it's not; dealers charge $695 and up for this stuff, and it really works. I will also include all-season floor mats and Mercedes OEM touch-up paint. That’s close to $1500 in value! --

-- Nits: A few minor signs of being on the road for 100K+ miles (light scratches, etc). The wheels show some discoloration. That's about it. This GL450 is as nice as you will find, and the cosmetic/mechanical condition is amazing for 113K miles. --

-- I have good feedback, and have recently sold dozens of high-end cars recently that the new owners are thrilled with. They and others have offered to act as references to verify that I am honest in my descriptions of the cars I sell, and you are welcome to contact them. --

Mercedes-Benz V-ision e Concept ups the plug-in hybrid van game

Thu, Mar 5 2015

The various V-Class vehicles from Mercedes-Benz don't get a lot of press around here, but when the German automaker brings something as unusual as the Concept V-ision E (yes, there's a dash in the name) to the Geneva Motor Show, we're happy to make an exception. The standard powertrain V-Class was first unveiled in Geneva last year and it returns in 2015 as a decidedly Daimleresque take on a plug-in hybrid van with a whole heap of cool new technology under the hood. C'mon, you know you want a luxury plug-in hybrid van. Well, if you think you don't want a van like that, listen to the specs and maybe you'll change your mind. It's got an all-electric range of up to 31 miles (if you're going no faster than 50 mile per hour), roughly 78 miles per gallon equivalent (based on the stated fuel economy of 3.0 liters burned per 100 kilometers) and a top speed of 128 mph. That should be plenty to get the basketball team to the tournament on time and in style. The powertrain has a total system output of 333 horsepower thanks to a four-cylinder engine and a 90-kW electric motor. If those numbers sound vaguely familiar, that's because Mercedes said it's "the same advanced drive system" as what's found in the Mercedes-Benz C 350 e, even though some of the performance figures differ. Stylistically, Mercedes has pulled no punches, adding two sun roofs, a real wood floor, nappa leather and executive seats along with something shiny and silver called "designo titanium alubeam" paint. In short, this is an everything-and-the-kitchen-sink approach to PHEV design, and we like it. It's just a concept, though, so don't go asking to buy one just yet. Instead take a better look in the gallery above and dream of going to the auto show prom in a van like this. V-Class concept car with a PLUG-IN HYBRID drive: Mercedes-Benz Concept V-ision e - Higher Performance at Lower CO2 Emissions Stuttgart, Mar 03, 2015 At the Geneva International Motor Show the Concept V-ision e from Mercedes-Benz presents a preview of the great variety of development potential offered by the V-Class. The concept vehicle combines environmentally friendly performance with the lightness of modern luxury. The most advanced PLUG-IN HYBRID technology available ensures extremely powerful propulsion in the model, as the highly efficient drive-system duo consisting of a gasoline engine and an electric motor delivers total system output of 245 kW (333 hp) and system torque of up to 600 Nm.

As US exports top 2 million, is America becoming the world's source of cheap cars?

Mon, Feb 9 2015

North American auto production is booming with 2014 figures just shy of the of the 17.3-million vehicle record set in 2000. With more models being built on the continent, even more are being shipped overseas. Factories in the US exported 2.1 million cars last year – the highest number ever. About half of those went to Canada and Mexico, but more than ever have been heading to places like the Middle East and China. The upswing comes in part from from after-effects from the Great Recession, according to The Wall Street Journal. With a weak dollar and lower production costs after the financial crisis, building vehicles in the US was relatively cheaper and more competitive in the world. At the same time buyers around the world are going crazy for crossovers. According to the WSJ, BMW and Mercedes-Benz are already exporting the majority of their US production of these models overseas. Both automakers have also announced investments to expand production further here to send more vehicles abroad. Even Honda has been shipping more models out of the country than it imported here. There is a concern this international strength could start slowing because the dollar is strengthening against other currencies, though it's too early to know what the actual effect of this could be, according to the WSJ. "Of course, we closely watch currency exchange, but we don't make changes in production or allocation based on temporary fluctuations in the exchange rate," Ford North American boss Joe Hinrichs told the newspaper.
