Mercedes-benz G-class G550 on 2040-cars
Pixley, California, United States
This 2012 Mercedes G550 is not your typical silver G550. Aside from the low mileage (~19.8k miles), spotless interior/exterior and the meticulous care that's been given to the car (i.e. garaged), several cosmetic modifications were made to "de-bling" this modern, California G-Wagen. 1. Five 16x7.5" Mercedes Ashtaroth wheels were imported directly from the Mercedes factory in Germany to replace the louder 18" versions that come standard with the U.S. G550s. These are the same wheels that Mercedes puts on its armored G-Wagens abroad, they cost ~$550-600 per wheel. Mated to the five 16" Ashtaroth wheels are five Michelin A/T 265x75-16 tires (four have about 10k miles on them, the spare is completely unused) and the factory tire pressure monitoring system. 2. The flashy chrome spare tire carrier was replaced with a custom wheel cover made by www.gwagenaccessories.com. This wheel cover was then painted with the factory Mercedes silver color to match the body and a factory Mercedes star emblem was attached. The wheel cover actually opens and closes for storage inside the wheel and is lockable with an integrated combination lock. This addition was ~$1000. http://g-wagenaccessories.com/products/wheelcover.htm 3. The chrome running boards were removed and replaced with custom rock sliders, also from www.gwagenaccessories.com. These sliders are not only functional but they cover the exhaust on either side of the vehicle. For those who prefer the running boards, I still have those too and am happy to install them if needed. The rock rails were ~$900. http://g-wagenaccessories.com/products/LWBw463RockSlider.htm 4. The hood indicator lights were changed from clear to the factory amber. I still have the clear lenses if you 'd like me to switch them back before the vehicle is picked up or shipped. 5. Weathertech floor mats accompany the barely-used stock floor mats which are also in "as new" condition. This G550 still has about 6 months of factory warranty remaining and was purchased from R.A.B. Motors in Marin County with an additional year of Certified Pre-Owned warranty. Factory warranties are transferable to the new owner but please check to see if CPOs are transferable. The vehicle has 19,800 miles and the 20,000 mile service was just recently completed by R.A.B Motors in Marin County. No accidents, clean carfax, clean title, never off road, not in the salt belt of America. You will be hard pressed to find a cleaner and more tastefully modified G550.

Consumer Reports selling its road-tested roadsters [w/video]
Thu, 31 Jan 2013Here's a chance to acquire a celebrity-owned vehicles, and this time at a discount instead of a premium. So the celebrity in this case is Consumer Reports, that magazine that could be equally adored and abhored by car enthusiasts. CR buys all of its test vehicles and usually finds willing second owners within its own ranks, but its opening its small used-car lot to the public. On the forecourt are four roadsters: an automatic 2012 Audi TT 2.0 TFSI Quattro S-Tronic with 6,600 miles for $36,500, a manual 2012 BMW Z4 sDrive28i with 8,400 miles for $45,000, a manual 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLK250 for $39,500 and a manual 2013 Porsche Boxster with 7,000 miles for $48,000.
Those numbers mean a savings of $9,000 to $10,000 before haggling - each car is listed with an "Asking price" so there could be some wiggle room if you show up with pockets full of dough and eyes full of serious intent. Since the money CR earns from the sales go back into the magazine's budget to buy more test cars, however, it probably won't take any oddball trades, so you can forget about getting any purchasing help from that track-day AMC Javelin project on blocks in the back yard.
The vehicles have been taken care of and spiffed up for sale; buyers will take delivery at the CR test track in East Haddam, Connecticut and get a tour of the facilities. While you're there they'll even take you on a lap around the track so you can feel how your car handles when driven by one of its testers. They will probably not help you with advice on which toaster and dehumidifier to buy - you'll still need to get a subscription for that. Have a look at the video below to see a day in the life of a CR test car.

Aston Martin CEO Andy Palmer to leave in favor of AMG chief Tobias Moers
Sun, May 24 2020Aston Martin Chief Executive Andy Palmer is leaving the business as part of a management shake-up and will be replaced by Tobias Moers, CEO of Mercedes-AMG, a source familiar with the matter told Reuters on Sunday. The luxury carmaker said in an emailed statement that it is reviewing its management team but declined to comment on Palmer's fate. Palmer and Germany's Daimler, which owns a 5% stake in Aston Martin and supplies the carmaker with Mercedes-AMG engines, also declined to comment. The Financial Times newspaper had reported earlier that the Aston Martin chief was going to leave as part of a shake-up of its leadership, with an official announcement expected on Tuesday. Palmer had not been informed of the upcoming announcement, the newspaper reported. Aston Martin, famed for being fictional secret agent James Bond's car of choice, has seen its share price plummet since floating in October 2018. The 107-year old British luxury carmaker earlier this month posted a deep first-quarter loss after sales dropped by almost a third due to the impact of the novel coronavirus outbreak. The company has been banking on its sport utility vehicle to drive sales in a new segment, and said production was on track. In January, dire conditions forced the company to bring in Canadian billionaire Lawrence Stroll who bought a roughly 20% stake for nearly 200 million pounds ($263 million), as the ailing carmaker sought to raise funds. The coronavirus pandemic and shutdowns caused by it have hit demand and forced factories around the world to suspend production, negatively impacting many industries, including car manufacturers. "We were obviously fairly significantly hit by COVID-19, starting with China in January but more clearly in what we saw as it came across towards Europe and the United States," Palmer told Reuters earlier in May.
