To drive this dream car is to experience the strength and stamina of the handbuilt 362 horsepower. 5.4 liter V-8. The normally aspirated V-8 has the power to move scenery at an astonishing pace. The reinforced five-speed automatic features AMG's Speedshift programming. Sport and comfort modes adapt shift points and firmness to differing driving styles, or press a button for manumatic mode, and the driver can control shifts via the lever or via buttons on the back of the steering wheel. In this mode it remains more manual than most Benzes, upshifting to prevent over-revving but never downshifting at wide-open throttle.
Underneath, AMG shocks, springs, and anti-roll bars lock down the body and quicken response rates without punishing the passengers. In a nod to ride plushness, the rubber is modest: 225/45 fronts and 245/45 rears on 17-inch rims. Big 13.6-inch-front and 11.8-inch-rear brake rotors are grasped by four-piston-front and two-piston-rear monoblock calipers.
That acceleration is accompanied by a glorious baritone engine note-you know, somewhere maybe a third of the way up the scale between a bass Chevy big-block and a soprano Ferrari. The chassis behaves beautifully, too, providing good isolation from small impacts while clinging tightly to the road over dips and humps.
I took this car on a 20 mile test drive to make sure everything works with no surprises to (you) the customer. One switch(no latches) allows you to drop the top and that is exactly what I did. The top goes up and down without a glitch. The top itself is in great condition with no tears, holes, or rips. The ride with the top down is much quieter than I expected and with the heat on full blast I was able to ride in 40 degree weather quite comfortably. It's not something I would recommend on a daily basis but it sure was fun.
The tires are in great shape with many miles remaining. The stereo is Harmon Kardon with a Disc Changer. The heater and AC work as they should with dual climate controls. Both driver and passenger seats have memory settings and the drivers seat has the additional lumbar support.
Options on this car include a 6-Disc Changer and GPS Navigation. I think those two options added $3,000.00 to the sticker price.
The BAD news! I don't really have any bad news but there are a few things I would like to mention.
1. The on-board diagnostic reads a warning that the left and right low beam lights are not working when they actually are working. (See Photo) Everything on the car works as it should. I am sure this could be reset by a dealer but take comfort in knowing everything works on the car. If you choose not to fix this issue, you just have to deal with the system telling you the lights are not working.
2. You will find very, very small rock chips on the front bumper and the beginning of hood. This is normal for used cars, especially 2005 models.
3. Carfax shows a minor accident but you cannot tell when looking or driving the car.
I have to say, I could have extended my ride another 100 miles because of how much I enjoyed driving this car. This is quite simply a fantastic automobile and I would be more than happy to be the owner. I have attached the Edmunds True Market Value Prices below. Frankfurt Motor Show Notes: Why Jaguar decided to build an SUV
Wed, Sep 16 2015It was inevitable. Jaguar had to make an SUV, and that notion became reality this week with the debut of the F-Pace, an all-wheel-drive five-seater that will launch in the United States next spring. Some purists may cringe. But in an era when Porsche, Bentley, Lamborghini, Rolls-Royce, Aston Martin, and other traditional luxury brands are all building or (planning to build) SUVs, Jaguar had to evolve. While it seems like a leap for Jaguar to make an SUV, longtime design director Ian Callum said it's been in the works for years. "The first time I was asked the question was when I arrived 16 years ago," he said. So in 1999 (and probably well before that), Jaguar was already thinking SUV. What took so long? "It wasn't a priority," Callum said. Jaguar was concentrating on fixing its existing lineup, which was pockmarked with holes and poorly selling products, like the X-Type. Along the way, Jaguar and sister brand Land Rover were sold by Ford to Indian conglomerate Tata Motors. Flash forward several years, and Jaguar and Land Rover are both experiencing a resurgence in the United States and around the world. Jaguar's lineup is flush with the E-Type's modern successor, the F-Type, plus a new version of the XF. The XJ received a 2016 freshening, and the smaller XE sedan is on the way. Jaguar put its house in order as other factors conspired to make a crossover timely. Fuel prices stayed relatively low, and consumers in the US and China remained steadfast in their love for utility vehicles of all stripes. Making a Jaguar SUV became a priority. "The world was telling us in no uncertain terms this is what they wanted," Callum said. "Not to be in the sector would be a little naive for the sake of purity." Jaguar proved its intent two years ago when it revealed the C-X17 crossover concept at Frankfurt, and the final production model is close to the prototype's striking looks. "I thought we managed to maintain that spirit," Callum said. It's a true Jaguar, with cues from the F-Type, 1968 XJ, and other famous models. Who would have thought Jaguar would make an SUV? "I certainly didn't," Callum admitted. But the F-Pace is here. If Callum is okay with it, purists can be, too. Quick Hits Opel retrenches for 2016 and beyond Opel used the Frankfurt show to display its new generation of the Astra, a critical vehicle line for the German division of General Motors.
2017 Infiniti QX30 First Drive
Mon, Jul 18 2016If you've heard anything before about this car, the 2017 Infiniti QX30, it probably has to do with its corporate parents, an odd couple if there ever was one. Renault-Nissan, Infiniti's corporate overlords, inked a deal with Mercedes-Benz to share some mechanical components and platforms. That deal put a new, very modern 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four under the hood of the Q50 and was the genesis of what you're looking at here. What are you looking at here? We drove this car in 2015, when it was called a Q30 – originally it was going to be the lower-riding counterpart to the slightly jacked-up QX30. Then Infiniti decided it'd make more sense to sell all variants of this vehicle as CUVs in the US, so we have three slightly different flavors of the QX30 instead. There's the normal version; the Sport, which is 0.6 inches lower; and the AWD, which is 1.2 inches higher. Infiniti brought us to Seattle to sample the Sport and AWD flavors on a semi-circumnavigation of the Puget Sound. It didn't rain a drop, thanks for asking, and instead was sunny and mild the whole time. It's easy to make the QX30 sound more confusing than it actually is. This is essentially a Mercedes-Benz GLA250 with full exterior styling and partial interior design by Infiniti, built in the UK alongside several other Nissans. The powertrain and chassis, including the optional AWD system, were all "co-developed" with partner Daimler, with final calibration and tuning by Infiniti engineers. Here's another way of explaining it: Infiniti needs an entry-level car to appeal to new premium car shoppers, and the QX30 is the prescription. It's a hatchback that's been given the mildest of CUV treatments and a lot of marketing descriptors. That's because hatchbacks are sales death in America. In Europe, they'll see right through the CUV posturing and realize it's just a hatchback offered in three different suspension heights. Whatever you call it to make it palatable to Americans, it's a useful little vehicle. This car is mechanically identical to the Q30, so there are some things we can gloss over. Both are powered by a transverse-mounted 2.0-liter Mercedes inline-four. It's a turbocharged, direct-injection gasoline engine, and it sure feels like one. It sounds like a rock tumbler full of nickels and runs out of breath at about 5,000 rpm. All versions make 208 hp at 5,500 rpm and 258 lb-ft of torque between 1,200 and 4,400 rpm – more than adequate but less than thrilling.
