About my 57,000 mile 2001 - Black MB CLK320 Convertible

I purchased the car (via eBay) two years ago from a local online dealer.  I wanted a reliable, low mile, four seater convertible for sunny spring and summer day trips.  I've driven approximately 3K miles since then.  The car has been garaged and NEVER been in wet weather.  The car has NO dings, creases, body issues whatsoever.  A Carfax report will confirm that this car has never been in an accident.  It is straight and true.  The roof is in A+ Condition.  All glass is clear with no cracks/defects.  Tires are in good shape.  Looks like the battery is only 3 years old.  Brakes wouldn't need service for probably 10K miles (depending on how you drive).  Next major service is >11K miles away. The car is 12 years old, so naturally it has a few small scratches, imperfections etc.

The dealer didn't exactly represent the car accurately and I ended up doing the following work                   over the first couple of weeks of ownership.

1.  Headlamps were badly fogged (notorious MB issue), so I had them cleaned - They are now crystal clear

2.  Headlamps and Low Beam Bulbs were blown - I replaced with new halogen bulbs

3.  Fog Light Glass was cracked - I replaced the glass and installed halogen bulbs

4.  The side mirror controller was broken - I replaced with a new controller

5.  The 6 CD player was broken - I had it repaired

6.  The A/C wasn't working - I had it repaired

7.  The tires were worn - I replaced all four, they are currently 8-32 with lots of tread depth

8.  Replaced windshield wiper (The CLK only has one)

9.  Fixed the windscreen washer motor

In addition to things that needed to be repaired, I also decided to,

1.  Replace the stock front grille with an AMG style grille

2.  Add AMG wheel inserts

3.  Purchase a new 2001 MB CLK320 Owners Manual

4.  Freshen up the wheels with a fresh coat of German Alloy Silver Paint (I will include a can and lacquer with the purchase)

A year or so ago,

The convertible cover stopped retracting, so I had a new motor added.  Now working perfectly (I will include a full 1qt MB Hydraulic Fluid).

If I was keeping the car (I may if it doesn't sell), I would make the following repairs,

1.  Repair the driver/passenger leather seats where the seams are splitting by the shoulder.  ALL MB CLK and E Class seats go at some point in this area.  IF you purchase the vehicle @ my low "Buy It Now" price, I'll take them to the dealer and get them done before you pick the car up.    It is a $200 repair.

2.  Have the alloy wheels professionally rehabbed or replace them with an AMG set (~$500).

About the Seller,

I've been on eBay since 1999.  I buy and sell and maintain 100% Feedback.  I am interesting in buying and selling items that are great value and accurately describe the item.  If you want to know more about the car, want more pictures, contact me.  I want to make sure that you know what you're buying and (UNLIKE ME), don't have lots of unexpected repairs to make.

If you're in the Philly Area, I'll deliver the car to you (within 50 miles). If you want to see the car, I'll meet you at a convenient location.  If you want to ship the car, I'll work with you to make the car available when convenient.

The car is sold "AS IS".  No warranty is implied or provided with this vehicle.  A $500 Non-Refundable deposit is required within 72 hours of purchase via Pay-Pal.  I will release the Car AND Title when the balance of the funds have cleared.

2016 Japanese Grand Prix | Hamilton faces the beginning of the end

Mon, Oct 10 2016

We're told the Japanese mamushi viper haunts the undergrowth around Suzuka. If the pit viper attended the weekend's Japanese Grand Prix, it avoided human visitors but it put a nasty bite on Lewis Hamilton's championship hopes. The Briton, lined up second on the grid next to Mercedes-AMG Petronas teammate Nico Rosberg, flubbed his start. By the end of Turn 1 Hamilton was in eighth. Hamilton didn't suffer alone. The beginning of the race was a melee; many of the leaders got caught out either by the damp track or by having to swerve around slow starters. Only Mercedes' Nico Rosberg and Red Bull's Max Verstappen took off clean. The German rolled up another lights-to-flag victory despite the pass-happy race happening behind him. Rosberg was as unbothered by the Dutchman in second place as he was by the official Formula 1 camera feed. Verstappen didn't have much work to do until the final ten laps of the race. Thanks to the Mercedes team's strategy – or Ferrari waiting too long to pit – Hamilton got up to third on Lap 36 of 53. Unable to make a DRS-enabled pass on Verstappen down the front straight toward the end of the race, the Mercedes driver took a creative line through Spoon corner. Closing in down the back straight, Hamilton jinked inside to try a pass through the final chicane. Verstappen moved over in the braking zone while Hamilton was still behind him, closing the door on the move. Hamilton protested over his team radio, but seemed resigned to a third place finish after the incident – he didn't try any more passes in the final laps. The Ferrari duo of Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen crossed the line fourth and fifth, respectively, in recovery drives after penalties. The scuderia tried an aggressive final stint after Hamilton successfully undercut Vettel in the pits. Ferrari put Vettel on the soft-compound Pirellis so he could hunt the Mercedes, but after a few laps of close pursuit the tires gave up and Vettel fell back. Daniel Ricciardo couldn't get comfortable in his Red Bull the entire weekend. The Aussie finished where he started, in sixth place. Sergio Perez and Nico Hulkenberg followed the Red Bull home in two-up formation for Force India, Williams doing the same in the final two points-paying positions with Felipe Massa and Valtteri Bottas. Rosberg's 23rd career victory – his ninth of the season and first ever in Japan – puts him 33 points ahead of Hamilton in the Driver's Championship with four races left.

Mercedes-Benz GLK coupe to get 2016 intro

Wed, 23 Jan 2013

Radio chatter around the emerging small, premium crossover coupe genre has thus far been dominated by the Land Rover Evoque and the Mini Paceman. According to a report in Car, the Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class (shown above) has received its invitation to the party and will spend the next three years getting ready: it's said that two-door variant of the crisply-angled CUV is coming in 2016, along with a redesign befitting its sleeker intentions.
To be based on the MRA platform - the rear-drive version of the company's three new modular platforms, it will also support the coming 2013 S-Class and could eventually get an AMG version to help it compete with segment offerings like the forthcoming Porsche Macan. Not much else is known about it beyond its name: Car says it will be called the GLC, a friendly nomenclature we remember best as a Mazda hatchback (allegedly for "Good Little Car"). Internet oldtimers may remember the Mazda GLC as the predecessor to the 323 (which in turn came before today's Mazda3). Either way, the GLC is not to be confused with the larger upcoming BMW X6 rival based on the ML-Class (reportedly called GLS) which is also said to still be in the works, or the front-drive based GLA, a model also edging toward production.

Genesis cars win accolades, offer value — so why are sales so bad?

Tue, Jul 31 2018

My high-school buddy Brent Cormier was so smitten with the Genesis G80 when he saw it at an event I hosted at SXSW in 2016 he bought a used 2013 Hyundai Genesis a short time later and fell in love with the car. "It surpasses my every expectation," said Cormier, a self-described "renaissance man" who owns and runs a real estate agency with his wife Laura, is a food service executive chef and part owner of Austin-based Thin the Herd Guitars. "I was locked into Mercedes and Audi for 10 years," he added. "And felt trapped in an endless pit of maintenance costs." After owning the Genesis over the past two years — including using it as an Uber and Lyft driver to earn extra cash — Cormier learned what some frugal luxury sedan buyers and a handful of car reviewers have discovered: Genesis offers great bang for the buck compared to other premium brands and can compete with the best in terms of performance, features and comfort. Hyundai's luxury brand also earned a prominent third-party endorsement last week when for the first time Genesis topped J.D. Power's 2018 APEAL study, surpassing German luxury-performance icon Porsche. The APEAL study (which stands for Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout) "measures owners' emotional attachment and level of excitement across 77 attributes," ranging from performance to comfort, and asks nearly 68,000 owners of new 2018 models to score vehicles on a 1,000-point scale. In its second year ranked as a stand-alone brand, Genesis earned an APEAL score that bumped it up 15 points to 884 and helped push it past Porsche — and past BMW, Lincoln, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Volvo, Cadillac, Land Rover and Lexus, in order of ranking. Last month, Genesis also topped J.D. Power's Initial Quality Survey (IQS) for the first time this year. And both its models were awarded Top Safety Pick Plus ratings by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, among 11 Plus ratings in all for Korean vehicles. Despite high J.D. Power rankings and great reviews, Genesis U.S. sales were off 50 percent for the first six months of 2018 compared to 2017, and in June Genesis sold only 796 vehicles — the first time U.S. numbers dropped below 1,000 in a month. Part of Genesis's APEAL and IQS success can be attributed to its small product lineup: just two models, the G80 and G90 sedans, with a third, the 2019 G70, launching later this year. And while those numbers may help in J.D.
