This was Mercedes top of the line car.  I was told that it cost $144,000 new. I cannot verify that.  It has every conceivable option that I can think of- from massaging seats to dark legal tinted windows, parking sensors, leather interior, etc.  And does that V12 really go!!   Why couldn't I have owned this 40 years ago?  That beautiful silver paint with the Fergiano custom 20 inch newer tires has a Camaro like appearance. It is plenty fast even for a non turbo version.

Everybody who sees this car really are awe struck by it's 100 mph look.  If you are power mad you can add the twin turbos and computer chip and you can pull over 700hp out of this brute.  Let your grandmother drive this and it will get about 15mpg.   When you are driving it  at 130 (limiter) you just don't have time to look at a gas gauge. - and smoking past most "fast cars" their drivers are shocked and must think it was just an F16 going by.   Yes I may be exaggerating but once you get into the cockpit of this thing you will find out that there is nothing but pure pleasure aboard.   I have had several women want to buy it but don't have the funds.

Now for the negatives-  if you are married your wife will not like this car for obvious reasons.   At 63 years of age that is not so much a concern but my wife hates the car because I bought it without telling her until I brought it home.  Sorry, it has been so enjoyable, but finally the negativity has worn me down and I need to go on with my life.  There are a few issues with the car.  This car has a rebuilt title.  Rebuilt means that it was wrecked but has been repaired and inspected by the state to get a rebuilt title.  This car has the original hood and front fenders so the damage in my opinion was not that bad.  This car drives straight and does not display any hints of ever being in a wreck.  I would not afraid to take my hands off the wheel at 100 miles an hour.  There are
a few other things.  The Distronic unit has a pinhole in it so it doesn't work.  It slows your car down automatically if you are approaching  a car too fast.  About as necessary as hubcaps on mag wheels, but part of the equipment that came with the car.  The ABS light has been on since I got the car but I know that this car will stop on a dime every time.  The engine light has stayed on since I purchased the car but after being serviced at the Isringhauser Mercedes dealership they told me not to be too concerned about the lights.  If you are serious about the car you are more than welcome to have this car diagnosed  locally at your own expense.  Two other concerns- sometimes when you first try to start the car you have to turn the switch back off and on one time or the ignition will not engage. I assume a new ignition switch will cure that but I never got around to getting it fixed.  And if you let the car sit for a week or so the body will settle onto of the tires. Read where the active body control often had a leaking hose.  Start the car up and it goes back up.   Just come and drive it- make your own mind up.  I owe more on this car than I am asking for it but the enjoyment I have gotten from it has been worth it.  I have not abused this car but have enjoyed its abilities on occasion.  Come have a look and fly this beast.

Firing of M-B boss upheld

Mon, 15 Jul 2013

Ernst Lieb, the disgraced former CEO of American operations for Mercedes-Benz, will not be getting any more money from the Silver Arrow'd teat. His wrongful dismissal suit against MB's parent company, Daimler, was tossed out of a German appeals panel. This, followed the initial rejection by a lower court last year.
According to court documents acquired by Automotive News, Lieb was found to have "accepted payments of substantial value to which he - as he was aware - had no claim."
Lieb took over American operations from former CEO Paul Halata in September of 2006. Reports surfaced in October of 2011 that Lieb was dismissed from his posting at MB, with a variety of rumors swirling. Eventually, news broke that financial wrong doing was responsible for the German's firing.

New Mercedes Unimog debuts to the cheers of little boys everywhere [w/video]

Sat, 27 Apr 2013

The Mercedes Unimog, the superhero villain of the off-road world that's just waiting to make the jump to Transformer, has been completely upgraded for its new generation. There are ten models, expanding the range and getting new designations across the traditional all-terrain series and the implement-carrier series. Panoramic cabins get more visibility, multifunction steering wheels and better dash clusters, improved HVAC and a three-mode central tire inflation system. Outside, there are new items like LED headlights and daytime running lamps in the bumper, roof-mounted windshield wipers and a front-camera monitor for the implement carrier.
The new engine lineup is compliant with Euro VI, featuring four- and six-cylinder BlueEfficiency engines putting out anywhere from 156 horsepower to 354 hp. Powerplant placement has also been tweaked, the chassis members getting a revised curve to place the engine a bit further back and lower, maintaining off-road clearance and lowering the Unimog's center of gravity. The new location of the engine means the cabin has more room, and the wheelbase is shorter. Combined with a higher turning angle, the Unimog has a smaller turning radius than before.
The implement carrier gets what's called a "synergistic traveling drive," the bonus being that drivers don't need to stop in order to use an attachment - a hydrostatic transmission works with the regular manual transmission at up to 31 kilometers per hour for seamless switching.

New Die Hard movie wrecked 132 cars in $11 million chase scene [w/video]

Sat, 16 Feb 2013

It would seem the act of dying hard brings with it lots of wanton destruction of the four-wheeled kind. According to John Moore, director of A Good Day To Die Hard, starring Bruce Willis, There were 132 (cars) that could never be used again. Another 518 required a lot of work. And damn right there were some good cars there... That's the fun of it."
Please join us in one great big collective sigh. Done? Okay, let's continue.
"With Die Hard it's about how audacious the action is," says Moore. "So you have to drive over a Lamborghini. An actual one. And yes it hurts me. I'm a car fanatic." Yeah. Sounds like it hurt really bad... though not as bad as the final tally after all the carnage had been counted: "Someone showed me the numbers on the car chase and soup to nuts, you put it all together it was like an $11 million sequence."
