In late 1997, as a 1998 model, the world was graced by the AMG C43 and its 302bhp 4.3-liter M113-E43 V8. Available in both saloon and estate configurations, the C43 was the first AMG vehicle built completely in-house and the first C-class to receive a V8. 4,200 were produced for the global market between 98-2000, 1,425 of which were for U.S. consumption. With a 0-60 sprint of 5.8 seconds and a top speed of 155mph.

I love my car, bought it at almost double the price and would keep this classic. It is great and the motor is in excellent conditions. It is an AMG, it gallops wild in summers (not that I ever got a ticket) and is incredibly tough in winter. Even if it is rear wheel drive one of the things I am most proud of is that it was able to survive four winters with me and it never failed to turn on in -45F weather. I would have never survived without the front heated seats, and the heater. I have the blizzak tires that go with it that are still in great shape and I have excellent tiers for the summer also, which I will include (the continental, up front and michelin, in the rear). The reason this car is not in excellent shape is that when I lived in California they broke into the car and stole the DVD player. They destroyed that specific part of the dash. I was able to get the dash but never had time to get the DVD and put it in (you can't put in the dash without the radio). I will include the wood dash with it. Besides that this charm has includes luxury appointments like automatic climate control, wood-grain dash, Bose stereo, power glass sunroof, the electronic Mercedes Mercedes Rest system, new smart key, blue LED lights, windshield wiper activated with sensor, and the split mirror side view mirrors for maximum loss of blind spots. I would love to give this car to someone who is willing to take great care of it and that loves these classics as much as I. My brother (that as a job fixes luxury cars) and I were always fixing little things to the car and tried to take as much care of it as possible. It have recently changed many things during a two year span the key, all brake pads and disks, windshield wiper motor and blade, windshield glass, side door wood grain, a side window (when they broke in), oil filters twice, emergency light sensor, spark plugs, water pump. Please contact me for any questions

Mercedes could make EV batteries with Audi, BMW

Mon, Sep 21 2015

It's not a big leap from digital maps to batteries, it turns out.The head of Mercedes-Benz parent Daimler said recently that he envisions his company working together with German automotive competitors BMW and Volkswagen to further accelerate electric-vehicle battery technology. The three automakers recently worked together to enhance their in-car maps systems. Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche talked about "commonalities" between automakers, not the least of which is the need for all of them to achieve increasingly stringent fuel-economy requirements in the European Union, at the Frankfurt Auto Show last week, according to Reuters. While these companies have made their own inroads as far as plug-in vehicles go, they are all behind the Renault-Nissan Alliance when it comes to public deployment of electric vehicles. This summer, Daimler, Audi and BMW hooked up to acquire the Nokia Here digital-mapping service for about $2.8 billion. The triad of automakers beat out companies such as Apple and Uber to buy the entity, which was founded in 1986 as Navteq. Nokia bought the company in 2007. The acquisition makes sense as the automakers work on improving their products with features like cloud-based data to warn drivers of icy roads and traffic jams. The technology will likely also eventually be used in autonomous vehicles. Automakers working together for a common goal of improved technology is nothing new, of course. General Motors and Honda agreed in 2013 to work together to accelerate hydrogen fuel-cell drivetrain development. Earlier that same year, Daimler said it would work with Ford and Nissan in a separate collaboration to speed up the development of hydrogen fuel-cell technology. Related Video:

2017 Aston Marin Lagonda could live on Mercedes M-Class platform

Tue, 29 Oct 2013

A few weeks ago, we brought you news from the launch of the Aston Martin Vanquish Volante that the British brand, which is formally known as Aston Martin Lagonda, was still planning on going ahead with a Lagonda-badged crossover. Now comes word that that vehicle could very well be based on a Mercedes-Benz M-Class.
When the first Lagonda Concept debuted at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show, it sat on a Mercedes-Benz GL-Class platform, some four years before Aston Martin and Mercedes-AMG deal was inked. And with that partnership, which will see Aston Martin gain access to AMG electrics and "bespoke, V8 powertrains," the opportunities for platform sharing are many.
Dr. Ulrich Bez, the boss of Aston Martin, told the UK's AutoCar, "I look at what Porsche is doing with the 911 as its core business and then it is able to do models like the Cayenne based on the Volkswagen Touareg. It is good business." We've said many times that we'll tolerate exotic CUVs and SUVs if it means keeping the beloved core models alive, which has been the case with Porsche. We see no reason Aston Martin wouldn't be able to do the same.

Car technology I'm thankful and unthankful for

Mon, Nov 27 2017

The past few years have seen a surge of tech features in new vehicles — everything from cloud-based content to semi-autonomous driving. While some of it makes the driving experience better, not all tech is useful or well thought out. Automakers who are adept at drivetrains, ride quality and in-cabin comforts often fail at infotainment interfaces and connectivity. From testing dozens of vehicles each year and in the spirit of gratitude, here are three car tech features I'm thankful — and a trio I could live without. Thanks Connected search: This seems like a no-brainer since everyone already has it on their smartphones, but not all automakers include it in the dashboard and as part of their nav systems. The best ones, such as Toyota Entune, leverage a driver's connected device to search for a range of services and don't charge a subscription or require a separate data plan for the car. I also like how systems like Chrysler Uconnect use Yelp or other apps to find everything from coffee to gas stations and allow searching via voice recognition. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto: It took two of the largest tech companies to get in-dash infotainment right. While they have their disadvantages (you're forced to use Apple Maps with CarPlay, for example), the two smartphone-integration platforms make it easier and safer to use their respective native apps for phoning, messaging, music and more behind the wheel by transferring a familiar UI to the dashboard — with no subscription required. Heated seats and steering wheels: I really appreciate these simple but pleasant features come wintertime. It's easy to get spoiled by bun-warmers on frosty mornings and using a heated steering wheel to warm the cold hands. I recently tested a 2018 Mercedes-Benz E400 Coupe that also had heated armrest that added to a cozy luxury experience. Bonus points for brands like Buick that allow setting seat heaters to turn on when the engine is remotely started. No thanks Automaker infotainment systems: Automakers have probably poured millions into creating their own infotainment systems, with the result largely being frustration on the part of most car owners. And Apple CarPlay and Android Auto coming along to make them obsolete. While some automaker systems, such as Toyota Entune and FCA's Uconnect, are easy and intuitive to use, it seems that high-end systems (I'm looking at you BMW iDrive and Mercedes-Benz COMAND) are the most difficult.
