1990 Mercedes 560sel With Many Rare Options on 2040-cars
Pacoima, California, United States
Presenting one of the finer examples of the w126 chassis available anywhere. This one has two very rare stock interior options- orthopedic seats and the rear sunshade. I added a Nakamichi CD400 headunit and an MBQuart 4.125 amplifier, as well as Polk speakers for an excellent sound system. There is an iPhone/iPod connector installed as well. Rounding out the interior additions, I also custom-installed a TomTom GPS unit (lifetime traffic), so that there are no loose power cords.
The exterior also has several rare (for the US) modifications. It has european bumpers (very rare for a Gen II W126). It also has european headlights (using H4 bulbs for much better visibility), and european amber turn signals. I have installed a glass sunroof from a Mercedes W140 chassis (it fits perfectly), making this car practically one-of-a-kind. The european hazard triangle is also included. Mechanically, the car is in excellent shape. I just replaced the entire top-end fuel delivery system, including a new (rebuilt) fuel distributor, new injectors, new injector seals and idle air hoses. The car has an extensive repair history (with records going back to new). The timing chain and tensioner were replaced 60K miles ago, along with rebuilt heads and new head gaskets. The transmission shifts smoothly (including reverse) and has had a recent fluid/filter replacement. The brakes are in excellent condition, with Akebono ceramic pads all around on nearly-new rotors. The front shocks have 25K miles, and the rear accumulators have 40K. It has an upgraded 19mm rear sway bar (custom manufactured by Hellwig), giving the car flatter handling in corners. It has a new set of General Altimax HP tires with less than 4000 miles on them. A new radiator and a new battery have just been installed. All fluids have been replaced regularly. There are a few things that a perfectionist will want to fix. There are two small dings on the right rear quarter (pictured), and there are a few paint flaws. The clear coat is intact however. Mercedes details plans for move to Georgia
Fri, Feb 6 2015Automakers are getting restless in America, moving their headquarters from one location to another. Toyota is shifting its US operations to Dallas, Porsche is moving to a new headquarters across town, Cadillac is relocating from Detroit to New York, but lately the news has been about Mercedes. The German automaker has run its US operations out of its current facility in Montvale, NJ for decades, but now it's preparing to relocate to a new facility in Atlanta. And it has just announced further details of the move. The company is building a new facility at the corner of Abernathy and Barfield in Sandy Springs outside of Atlanta. That's right near where the Georgia 400 meets Interstate 285 near Hartsfield-Jackson airport, giving Mercedes access to an existing infrastructure of hotels, restaurants and of course transportation routes. The facility will take up a 12-acre plot of land and is earmarked for completion in early 2018. Lest you think MBUSA will stay put in Montvale in the meantime, though, it won't. The company is actually going to relocate twice, moving in the meantime to a temporary, 186,000-square-foot facility at the Perimeter Center in Dunwoody, GA. That move will kick off in July. The move detailed earlier this week at a press conference at the Georgia State Capitol with Governor Nathan Deal will see Mercedes hiring hundreds of new employees in Atlanta. Even after it moves down south, though, the company will keep certain functions in New Jersey, both in Montvale and in Robbinsville where it has its parts distribution center. MERCEDES-BENZ USA ANNOUNCES DETAILS OF NEW CORPORATE HEADQUARTERS IN ATLANTA MBUSA to occupy interim office space in Central Perimeter before opening new, state-of-the-art facility in 2018 February 03, 2015 - ATLANTA -- At a press conference today at the Georgia State Capitol, Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA) announced the permanent and interim locations for its new corporate headquarters in Atlanta. Company President and CEO Stephen Cannon made the announcement with Georgia Governor Nathan Deal. MBUSA, which is currently headquartered in Montvale, New Jersey, will construct a new, state-of-the-art headquarters facility on a greenfield site located at the corner of Abernathy and Barfield roads in Sandy Springs, expected to be completed in early 2018.
Daimler CEO says nobody is making money on EVs right now
Wed, Nov 5 2014What do you charge for a vehicle you're going to lose money on? If you're Mercedes-Benz and the vehicle in question is the B-Class Electric Drive, you offer it for lease for just 399 euros ($498) a month with a down payment of 8,473 euros ($10,582). If Daimler was going to price it honestly, it seems, the number would have to be a lot higher. "Nobody today is making a battery-powered vehicle that's economically viable." – Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche That's according to Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche, who spoke to reporters in Spain recently and said that, "You can reasonably say that nobody today is making a battery-powered vehicle that's economically viable in its own right. Manufacturers will not see a return within a reasonable time on the billions they're investing now." There are ways to make money in EVs, of course. Just ask Daimler, which recently sold its stake in Tesla for a cool $780 million. Zetsche has some EV-critical company in executives like Fiat Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne, who has said his company loses over $10,000 on each Fiat 500E it sells. Other automakers – e.g., Tesla, Nissan – are much more positive about their financial bet on EVs, but no one is opening all their books to the public to prove this. Tesla, which worked with Mercedes on the B-Class ED, will have an earnings call with investors later today, so perhaps we'll learn something new in a few hours. The B-Class ED lease deal is for 36 months, based on an MSRP of 39,151 euros ($48,895) in Europe, including the 19 percent VAT. You can read more in the press release below. Commercial release of Mercedes-Benz B-Class Electric Drive: Local emission-free driving from ˆ399/month Stuttgart, Nov 03, 2014 With its high-torque electric motor, the B-Class Electric Drive delivers lively and superior driving pleasure – with zero local emissions. The B-Class Electric Drive is now available to order, with deliveries set to start before the end of 2014. Prices start at ˆ39,151[1]. The B-Class Electric Drive can be leased through the Mercedes-Benz Bank from ˆ399 a month[2]. Further information on the full range of tailor-made leasing and financing offers as well as specific pricing examples are available at http://www.mercedes-benz-bank.de. Quiet and local emission-free driving is ensured by a 132 kW electric motor, which, as is typical of an electric drive, delivers its maximum torque of 340 Nm right from the start. The result is noticeably powerful acceleration from rest.
