MUST BE TOWED OR TRAILERED TO YOUR DESTINATION! DO NOT EXPECT TO DRIVE HOME!
This car has been parked for approximately 14 months. Prior to that, it ran fine for the year or so that I drove it and I took it on several long (1000+ miles) trips and drove it extensively around town. It developed a tick and I parked it last fall. I got a newer M-B 300E at the same time that got better gas mileage, so I never looked into fixing it. I have started it a few times, but not driven it because the registration and inspection are expired and I live two blocks from the police station. Straight and complete down to the first aid kit in the rear shelf. Heated electric seats. Interior good but not perfect, please look at photos carefully. Good tires. CLEAR TEXAS TITLE.

If you are reading this, you probably already know that the 560 SEL is a very, very nice car. It was rated the safest car of the year in 1989. The L is for Limousine, and it is extra long and the back seat reclines. All the seats are heated. There are ashtrays and cigarette lighters in the rear doors. The seats are leather and the wood trim is real. Since it has been parked for over a year I will not guarantee anything other than that it will start. Please look at pictures carefully and ask any questions before buying. I did a quick survey of the car as I took the photos for this listing, and these are the only defects I noticed. This is not and exhaustive list and you may find defects that I did not notice.

Exterior:
Very straight with no hail damage or noticeable dents.
Original paint that needs to be repainted as clearcoat has failed.
Two small (dime and quarter size) bullseye cracks in windshield.
Small crack in bezel surrounding headlight on passenger side.
Small hole (pencil size) and cracks in passenger marker light.
Remaining light bezels and lenses appear good.
Windshield wipers on headlights.
Small trim piece missing on passenger side (see picture)
Bumpers, grill, chrome trim all good.
Good tires.

Interior:
Mostly intact, no cracks in dashboard.
It appears someone tried to install a new radio: wood in the center console is loose and there is a rectangular hole in front of the shifter.
Seats are gray leather. Cracks in both front seats (see pictures)
No cracks in back seat.
Carpet is intact and complete with floormats but stained.
Missing passenger kickplate in front of door.
The glue has failed on the vinyl on the door pillars.
Missing driver's sun visor clip.
One rear speaker case is cracked and broken on one corner.
Two small cracks in the top of the driver's door panel.
The back of the driver's seat is in the trunk and probably needs new mounting hardware.

If someone had the time, space, and tools, this car could be parted out for much more than the purchase price. A quick search of eBay will reveal dozens of parts that can be sold for $50-$1000 each. It is my hope, however, that someone will fix this one and keep it on the road. Please ask any questions you have.

This car is sold AS-IS and WHERE-IS, with NO warranty expressed or implied.

Buyer is responsible for transporting the vehicle within 30 days of purchase. I will tow (prepaid) to you for $1.50 per mile from 78336.

Please pay via PayPal invoice I will send at end of auction.

Mercedes was set to sell version of Nissan Titan, now Infiniti might instead

Wed, 18 Sep 2013

Mercedes-Benz Titan. Mercedes-Benz Frontier. Mercedes-Benz pickup truck. None of these things roll off the tongue particularly well. We'd like to think that's the reason Daimler opted to kill the idea of rebadged Titan and Frontier pickups from corporate ally Nissan. In reality, the execution before the Frankfurt Motor Show was due to more complicated issues.
Yes, Mercedes, byword for German luxury, style and quality, would have slapped a three-pointed star on a pair of Japanese pickup trucks that have failed to resonate with consumers in the world's largest truck market. That slapping of badges isn't much of an exaggeration, at least on the outside. According to the report from Road & Track, the truck's front clip would have been tweaked, but beyond that, the sheetmetal would have been unchanged. The interior would have received a more thorough going-over by the team at Mercedes, while the suspension and noise, vibration and harshness tuning would have also received significant attention.
The trucks would have ended up being sold through the light-commercial branch of Mercedes-Benz - the same folks that will happily sell you a Sprinter van - had the deal gone through. Issues arose, though, first with the engines. Mercedes wanted a wider range of powertrains to allow it to tune models for specific markets, while Nissan said it couldn't engineer the wide variety of engines that MB wanted to drop under the hood. For the smaller truck, meanwhile, MB was interested in a hybrid or plug-in variant, according to R&T, although this was also shot down by Nissan.

2015 Brazilian Grand Prix is the same as it ever was

Mon, Nov 16 2015

At this point, we hope Nico Rosberg is planning to carry his current qualifying form into the 2016 season and back it up with the same kind of race-day cojones he showed winning the race in Mexico City two weeks ago. The Mercedes-AMG Petronas driver got it right enough again on Saturday afternoon to take his fifth consecutive pole position ahead of teammate Lewis Hamilton by almost a tenth of a second. It's the same one-two from Brazil last year. The bad news for the rest of the field is that the winner in Brazil the last seven years has been one of the two drivers on the front row. Last year it was the Williams duo that lined up behind Mercedes, this year it's Ferrari. Sebastian Vettel plays the stalking horse, securing third in his Ferrari ahead of teammate Kimi Raikkonen in fourth. Williams driver Valtteri Bottas actually qualified in fourth, but he had to serve a three-spot grid penalty for passing under red flags in Free Practice 2, so he started sixth. That promoted Sahara Force India driver Nico Hulkenberg up to fifth. Daniil Kvyat was the quickest representative from Infiniti Red Bull Racing, getting into seventh even with a Renault power unit that's weak on some of the key stretches at the Interlagos track. Felipe Massa had the second Williams in eighth, in front of the second Red Bull driven by Daniel Ricciardo in ninth. Toro Rosso hasn't confirmed its drivers for next year but Max Verstappen keeps making it hard to look elsewhere, taking 10th. Rosberg is working nearly the same trick he pulled last year: drive like a second driver for most of the year, drive like a world champion for the last quarter of a season. He pulled away at the start and covered Hamilton just enough on the run to the first corner to keep Hamilton on the outside. By the end of Turn 1 the German had the lead and didn't give it up for the rest of the race outside of pit stops. Without overwhelming pace to pass and unable to follow closely, Hamilton could do nothing except ask his team for a different strategy to go for the win. When Mercedes told him "No," trying to protect Rosberg's second place in the championship ahead of Vettel, that was the race. Just like last year, Rosberg and Hamilton finished one-two. Vettel, Raikkonen, Bottas, Hulkenberg, and Kvyat drove lonely races to finish in positions three through seven.

2015 Chinese Grand Prix shines bright sun on the dark days of racing

Sun, Apr 12 2015

Yes, we tuned into the Formula One Grand Prix in Shanghai China to see a race. But we all know we really tuned in to see if Ferrari, or any other team, could make it a competitive race with Mercedes-AMG Petronas. Based on qualifying, things didn't get off the best of starts: Lewis Hamilton made it four-out-of-four at the front, leading all three Free Practice sessions and then taking pole position in his Mercedes. Nico Rosberg is making the most of his time in the simulator, getting closer to Hamilton as the months go by. This time he lined up in second, just 0.042 in arrears. Ferrari did its best to temper expectations after Malaysia. Even though Sebastian Vettel qualified in third, almost a second behind Hamilton, the Scuderia's race pace is still considered a danger. Kimi Raikkonen's final hot lap went sour in Turn 3 and dropped the Finn to sixth place on the grid. In between the Ferraris, Williams is another team desperately working to maintain its advantage, and both of its drivers capitalized on Raikkonen's misfortune. Felipe Massa took fourth, Valtteri Bottas was in fifth. Daniel Ricciardo led the Infiniti Red Bull Racing charge in seventh, ahead of Romain Grosjean in the Lotus earning a spirits-lifting eighth. The two Saubers continue to show how good the Ferrari engine is, with Felipe Nasr taking ninth position and teammate Marcus Ericsson in tenth. Yet when the lights went out, so did the racing, for the most part. At the end of the first lap, because of some excellent moves by Raikkonen on both Williams' and a terrible start by Ricciardo that dropped him to seventeenth, the order was Hamilton, Rosberg, Vettel, Raikkonen, Massa, Bottas, Grosjean, Nasr, Ericsson, and Pastor Maldonado in the Lotus rounding out the top ten. At the end of the race, the only positions that had changed were the final two: Ricciardo had a laps-long battle with Ericsson, passing, getting repassed, then passing again to take ninth for good, with Ericsson finishing tenth. Maldonado suffered the worst in a battle with Jenson Button in the McLaren, when Button misjudged the entry into Turn 1 for a pass and clouted the back of the Lotus. Button was able to finish but Maldonado had to retire. Yes, there were some decent moments in between, like Bottas getting by Massa at the start, then Raikkonen getting past Massa in the first few corners and the Finn's move on Bottas also letting Massa through.
