If you have always wanted THE super coupe from the Gordon Gekko extravagant 1980's this is your chance! Up for auction is a super clean 1986 5.6 liter 238 horsepower 287 lbs. of torque fire breathing land rocket.  This is the forgotten coupe that was the car that all others aspired to be during the Big Hair Big Metal Bands heyday!  1986 is a pivotal year in the history of the W126/C126 chassis because it is the first year of the 5.6 motor that was a huge horsepower increase over the 5.0 of 1984/1985.  This motor was brought over to the USA to deal with the challenges being brought forth by the likes of BMW Lexus and Jaguar.  This 560 sec has ice cold AC all of the windows go up an down for the "full coupe" hardtop convertible experience.  The sunroof tilts perfectly but sometimes the sunroof does not slide back without a little help.  The original floor mats are in nice shape and the steering wheel has a cover on it.  All of the problems areas on the SEC are functioning in this car-- The seat belt "butler" is working. The dashboard is beautiful with no cracks and the rear self-leveling suspension is trouble-free. The steering wheel forward and back option is working. The seats are in good shape but have covers on them for protection. The fog-lights are fine as are the headlight wipers that come with the car.  The wood all around the car is in super shape and all of the window switches work fine.  The adjustable passenger mirror switch works great but sometimes the clip gets a little loose in its position.  The rear of the interior has cloth covers on it to protect it from the rear sun glare. The paint is in stellar shape but appears to have been redone at some point in its life.  The headliner is in nice shape but seems a little weak near the rear glass. A picture is included.  The rear glass is not leaking nor is it getting the famous white delamination. The HVAC system is great but sometimes the off button needs to be pushed a little harder to keep it in its position and on some settings the blower sends 20% of the air to the defroster vents.  I am not sure if this is normal or if it is a vacuum leak.  These cars are notorious for the complicated HVAC system. The original HVAC tutorial card is included.  The car has upgraded speakers all around and a Pioneer CD player but the original Becker is included for the purists out there.  The car has brand new tires as well as a set of new front brake pads and just had the transmission and rear differential serviced. The car even has the original wheels that it came with and has a great spare in the trunk and even still has the Mercedes-Benz First Aid Kit. The motor on this car is in top shape and she has a great bill of health.  She does not burn any oil and there is no noise coming from the chains or guides.  She idles a little over 600 @ idle with the air off and around 800 with the AC on.  I just completed a 500 mile round trip in the car and she was a champ.  The brakes and transmission service were just done after the trip so she is ready to enjoy for many more miles.  This car has all of the original manuals from 1986 and even has the letter stating how long it would take to get a new key from Germany should you need it. as well as the original instructional cassettes on the becker radio and SRS system. The reserve on this car is super low for how clean it is and this car is well above the other "rats" that are being shown on the internet.  She is not a museum piece but a solid driver that would make any person proud to own her.  They truly do not make the German Sherman Tanks like this anymore.  The hand built Mercedes coupes are a thing of beauty.  The weight of the door as it closes and makes the "bank vault thud" should be an experience that all should enjoy.  This truly is a land rocket that was designed to drive in comfort from Key West to Washington State.  I have great feedback and can send many more pictures.  If you have any questions please ask!

Thanks

Red Bull may seek engines from Ferrari after Mercedes snub

Thu, Sep 10 2015

Red Bull and Renault's fractured relationship is pushing the Austrian F1 team to find a new engine provider. But after a trip across the German border to chat with Mercedes-Benz proved fruitless, the team is apparently set to head across its home country's southern border, and into Italy. Yep, Red Bull Ferrari could be a thing next season. According to RBR boss Christian Horner, the company is just doing "necessary due diligence" in contacting other engine suppliers, although he's willfully admitted to Germany's Bild newspaper that the "idea of Mercedes is finished," BBC Sport reports. It wasn't so much that Mercedes and Red Bull couldn't come to financial agreement – Red Bull owner Dietrich Mateschitz views throwing money into F1 in much the same way you or I toss pennies into the mall fountain – but rather that the Germans had no interest in supplying the best engines on the grid to the factory team's perennial rival. BBC Sport seems to think that fact, along with what the outlet calls Red Bull's "antagonistic" relationship with engine suppliers, killed the Mercedes deal. Honda and RBR aren't likely to happen either, thanks to McLaren (not that we think Red Bull would approach the Japanese, which have struggled mightily all season long). By process of elimination, that just leaves Ferrari. Scuderia Ferrari Team Principal Maurizio Arrivabene confirmed that his team can accommodate Red Bull's engine needs, and that he wasn't concerned with the idea of a Ferrari engine in an Adrian Newey-designed body. "In theory they have big names, with Newey as chief designer and it is easy to think that if you give them the engine they will build a scary chassis, which means they will be really competitive," Arrivabene told BBC Sport. "Concerning my team, my engineers and aerodynamicists know their own jobs. For that reason I don't have a problem, and competition is nice when you have a stronger competitor." "This doesn't mean tomorrow morning we will give our engines to Red Bull or Toro Rosso," Arrivabene added. And it's that statement we'd suggest remembering. There are, after all, still seven races left in the 2015 season, which is quite a lot of time for new and different developments within the sport's notoriously gruesome political process. In other words, don't count on an announcement from any team or manufacturer for at least a few more races. Related Video:

Race Recap: 2013 Japanese Grand Prix flips several scripts [spoilers]

Mon, 14 Oct 2013

Japan's Suzuka circuit is a great track that all the drivers love, but it doesn't usually provide the most thrilling, head-to-head racing. Where it does excel, however, is with surprises and "What just happened there?!" moments, and this year it was no different.
It started with Mark Webber in his Infiniti Red Bull Racing out-qualifying his teammate Sebastian Vettel for the first time this year. They were followed closely by Lewis Hamilton in the first Mercedes-AMG Petronas, the still-solid Romain Grosjean again outdoing teammate Kimi Räikkönen, Felipe Massa racing for another seat in Formula One and putting his Ferrari in fifth, then Nico Rosberg in the second Mercedes, Nico Hülkenberg in the first Sauber, Fernando Alonso in the second Ferrari, and Räikkönen continuing to do himself no favors by qualifying tenth.
For the second year in a row, the lights going out was the cue to start the first corner action...

Dealers mobilize to protect their margins from automaker subscription services

Fri, Aug 24 2018

Six individual auto brands — Lincoln, Cadillac, Porsche, Mercedes, BMW and Volvo — have established or are trialing a vehicle subscription service in the U.S. Three third-party companies — Flexdrive, Clutch and Carma — run brand-agnostic subscription services. And three automakers — Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and General Motors — have also launched short-term rental services. Dealers, afraid of how these trends might affect their margins, are building political and lawmaking campaigns to protect their revenue streams. So far, three states are investigating automaker subscriptions, and Indiana has banned any such service until next year. It's certain that those three states are the first fronts in a long political and legal battle. Powerful dealer franchise laws mandate the existence of dealers and restrict how automakers are allowed to interact with customers to sell a vehicle. On top of that, Bob Reisner, CEO of Nassau Business Funding & Services, said, "Dealers and their associations are among the strongest political operators in many states. They as a group are difficult for state politicians to vote against." In California earlier this year, the state Assembly debated a bill with wide-ranging provisions to protect against what the California New Car Dealers Association called "inappropriate treatment of dealers by manufacturers." One of those provisions stipulated that subscription services need to go through dealers, but that item got stripped out when dealers and manufacturers agreed to discuss the matter further. In Indiana, Gov. Eric Holcomb signed a moratorium on all subscription programs by dealers or manufacturers until May 1, 2019, to give legislators more time to investigate. Dealers in New Jersey have taken their campaign to the state capitol, asking that the cars in subscription programs get a different classification for registration purposes. Automakers run the current subscription services and own the vehicles. Sign-ups and financial transactions happen online or through apps, leaving dealers to do little more than act as fulfillment centers to various degrees, with little legal recourse as to compensation amounts when they're called on to deliver or service a car. That's a bad base to build on for business owners who've sunk millions of dollars into their operations.
