1985 Mercedes 500sel Classic on 2040-cars

I have a rare classic 101k mile 1985 Mercedes Benz 500 SEL. This was the last year that the 500SEL was available in the United States and was the very top car of its time. It is almost identical to Michael Jackson's 1985 500SEl that just sold at auction for over a 100k I was told this car was used in movies but I have no documentation of that.
I purchased this car with plans to make it perfect but I need the garage space now and I'm forced to sell. This car will continue to appreciate in value as the years go by, low blue book for this car is 9,000 and high retail is almost 20k so it's a car worth keeping and making it right, and the best part is this car doesn't cost anymore for parts or repair than a domestic, and parts are readily available seeing this was a popular motor for mercedes. Oh and did I mention it's very fast, I accidentally gave it to much gas from the stop light and at about little over half throttle it poured smoke from the tires lol. It does need some tlc to be perfect but it's a very nice driver and I always, and I mean always get compliments and thumbs up, because it's just something you don't see all the time. Paint shines nice but could use a buff, as shown in the pics it's missing the little trim piece that has a little rust where it was. Rockers are solid, wells are solid, fenders are solid, no bondo anywhere, has a couple bubbles at rear door trim but very replaceable. The interior is nice but is missing the rear interior door panel, all hardware is there just the panel is missing and the front seats have some cracks as shown in the pics. The engine is bulletproof, it will fire right up without a problem, there are many write ups on how well built this 5.0 liter motor is and how it will outlast that car. It's been sitting in my garage and hasn't leaked any fluid at all from the motor or rear end, the only seepage I've seen is from the trans pan it will need a gasket soon but the trans is nice and strong on it, like I said I was driving it once a week. Here's the bad 2 weekends ago I took it to the store and the rear driver brake hose started leaking, the parts 11.00 online but I've never worked on brake lines or hoses before and don't really want to chance it. As of now car still stops the brake just goes to the floor. It does need some tlc to be absolutely perfect but it's a solid car and does look great, if it didn't I don't think it would get as much attention as it does everywhere I go. low book value is 9,000 and high is close to 20,000 for this car. Mercedes' CEO says Google should study car use, not car building
Sat, Feb 14 2015Google is rapidly throwing its massive weight into many facets of the auto business. Not only does the search behemoth want to take on Uber, offer car insurance quotes and run a specific version of Android on future infotainment systems, but the company is also at least toying with the idea of constructing its own completely autonomous vehicles. Such a powerful corporation entering the industry could frighten some automakers, but Daimler boss Dieter Zetsche isn't worried. The mustachioed executive doesn't believe that Google actually means to become an automaker but is instead just studying how people use cars. "Google and the likes want to get involved, I don't think in the first place to build vehicles," he told analysts, according to Reuters. Zetsche sees future collaboration with the technology giant in a quite nuanced way in that there are some things they can be partners on and other places where the two corporations might be competitors. One area where Zetsche potentially predicts an antagonistic relationship with Google regards data privacy, a concern is becoming a hot topic in the auto industry at the moment. Zetsche foresees the future of safety in Mercedes-Benz vehicles as protecting occupants not just physically but also safeguarding their personal information. "To be able to provide that, we have to keep control, and we can't do that when it is collected by Google," Zetsche said to Reuters. Five B-Class F-Cells go from SF-LA using public hydrogen stations
Thu, Oct 29 2015California's hydrogen islands in Los Angeles and San Francisco finally got the bridge they needed to become the "Hydrogen Highway." With the completion of a permanent public station in Coalinga built by FirstElement Fuel, 205 miles north of LA, 183 miles south of SF, fuel-cell-vehicle owners can complete the road trip without worry. Mercedes-Benz did just that with five B-Class F-Cell customers, spending three days covering 1,000 miles and filling up only at public permanent stations in Burbank, Coalinga, West Sacramento, and Emeryville. Mercedes says there are ten stations in California now, but more than 40 are scheduled to open in 2016, and about ten more every year after that through 2023, when there should be 123 open stations. The company's US fuel-cell fleet is 70 strong and has covered more than two million miles in the five years they've been on the roads here. On average that means each car has driven just 5,714 miles per year, but that number should go up now that they can stretch their hydrogen stacks. The press release below has more information. Nearly 1,000 fuel cell electric miles: Crossing California on Hydrogen - Five Mercedes-Benz B-Class F-CELL complete emission-free drive from Los Angeles to Northern California while only filling up at public hydrogen stations - "California Hydrogen Highway" is connecting the dots - U.S. F-CELL customers have accumulated over 2 million miles since 2010 Stuttgart, Oct 27, 2015 - Mercedes-Benz B-Class F-CELL customers ventured beyond Southern California last week for the very first time, while only filling up at existing public hydrogen stations along the route from Los Angeles to San Francisco. The opening of a new hydrogen station in Coalinga along the I-5 corridor made this opportunity possible. A team driving five B-Class F-CELL refilled at four permanent hydrogen fueling stations located in Burbank, Coalinga, West Sacramento and Emeryville, accumulating nearly 1,000 miles over the course of their three day trip. Three F-CELL customers were accompanied by a team from Mercedes-Benz Research and Development North America based in Long Beach. The purpose of this unique road trip was to highlight the growing hydrogen station network and to show that the vision of the California Hydrogen Highway is becoming reality. Early adopter Loki Efaw who has been an F-CELL driver since 2011 believes fuel cells are the future: "I don't want a car that only takes me to work and back before I have to plug it in.
Vettel steals victory from Hamilton in Australian Grand Prix
Sun, Mar 25 2018MELBOURNE, March 25 – Sebastian Vettel made full use of the virtual safety car to sneak in front of Lewis Hamilton and hold off the frustrated champion to win Formula One's season-opening Australian Grand Prix on Sunday. The Mercedes engine's infamous 'party mode' that delivered Hamilton a blistering pole lap on Saturday could do little once Ferrari's Vettel nosed ahead when re-entering from pit-lane midway through the race at Albert Park. Pole-sitter Hamilton had appeared set to coast to victory with a clear pace advantage but the race turned on its head with the safety car, which was called after Romain Grosjean's Haas failed and rolled to a stop at turn two. In another bonus for Ferrari, Kimi Raikkonen finished third, fending off Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo and leaving the unlucky Australian still searching for a first podium in his home race. "We got a bit lucky." Four-times world champion Vettel claimed a 48th overall win and his third in Melbourne following his victories at Albert Park last year and in 2011. "It was needless to say we got a bit lucky with the timing of the safety car," the German, who had started from third place and inherited the lead when Hamilton and Raikkonen had pitted earlier in the race, told reporters. "It's not the easiest track to pass." For Hamilton, the result was a bitter pill to swallow and had echoes of last year's race. Vettel also managed to re-enter in front of him from pit-lane in 2017 before burning away to victory while the pole-sitting Briton was blocked by traffic. Mercedes boss Toto Wolff said his team had miscalculated the margin between the cars during the safety car period. "We thought we had enough margin," he told the BBC. "It must have been a software bug in the system that caused us to get it wrong. We are digging deep now to understand where we had a problem." "I don't understand what's happened." Hamilton, who cockily spoke of "wiping the smile off" Vettel's face with his pole lap on Saturday, battled to keep positive. "Even now I don't understand what's happened," the 33-year-old told reporters. "I did everything I believe I was supposed to do." After the pit-lane setback, Hamilton drove hard to reel in Vettel and battled back after taking a slide at a corner that blew out the lead to nearly three seconds. But he finally waved the white flag in the closing laps to preserve the car for future races.
