1984 Mercedes Benz 500 SL Convertible Coupe / Roadster

Please note: This is the actual European VIN# WDB1070461A009992. The other number with all zeros is due to Ebay not accepting the actual number on the title, which is in my name. There is also a Bureau of Automotive Repair (B.A.R.) number A24676 in the driver side door jamb, which can clearly be seen in one of the images. Additionally, this car has all the requisite smog additions and is currently registered in California, so it currently is in compliance with all California state and federal EPA requirements. I have been informed this might also be known as a "Gray Market" car, but has been registered in California since the late 1980's or so, without any problems.

License plate number, California 7EAY201

This car was donated to our non-profit foundation, so we have only had the car a short time. Our understanding is this is a European Mercedes, purchased in Germany and driven around there for a time before being imported to the United States by the same family (second generation) who donated the car to us.

The car runs and drives great and for the most part was always maintained by a Mercedes dealer or authorized Mercedes Benz mechanic. The car was checked out and we found just about everything on the car is in proper working order, including: Headlights (high and low beams), brake lights, turn signals, driving lights, dash lights, dome lights, emergency flashers, power passenger side mirror, radio, horn, cigarette lighter, power windows, central locking system, heater, fan on all speeds and settings, air conditioning (but might need a recharge), power antenna, seatbelts, all gauges, windshield wipers on all speeds, etc.

We have not removed the convertible hard top to see what kind of shape the convertible soft top is in, but have been informed it is in good shape. There is also included in this sale a rolling holder for the convertible hard top to be stored upright while not in use.

There is no owner's manual or any other factory brochures or with this car.

Things we found that DO NOT WORK, the dash clock, possibly the seat warmers… it was rather warm out and we could not tell if they worked, but the lights on the switches work on both positions. We could not figure out how to turn on the fog lights, so we do not know if they work. The windshield washers did not spray water, so we do not know if they are clogged or there is no washer fluid in the system, HOWEVER the wipers DO work on all speeds.

The radio is made by Alpine, model number CDM 7871 and apparently is a CD model, but we do not know how it works. The radio turns on and the antenna goes up when it does, but that is about all we could figure out. There is a very small phone antenna on the rear trunk lid.

The tires are near new, Goodyear Assurance brand. The rims are apparently aftermarket.

The dash is cracked and so is the leather on both seats, the ABS light on the dash comes on and off, intermittently, and there is a slight leak from the transmission.

The car has the chrome wheel lip moldings, rubber rear trunk lid spoiler, nice original carpets, nice door panels (with Kenwood speakers in them). There are two more speakers behind the driver and passenger seats on the horizontal part of the rear deck area or package shelf.

Car comes with a car cover.

The car might have been repainted years ago, but if so, it was a high quality repaint of the original black color. The car would have had all the trim, bright-work, bumpers and all else removed as there is no paint on any of them. The red pin striping has been buffed through in several places. There are the very few regular parking lot dings and one bubbled spot of paint on the driver side front fender behind the chrome wheel lip molding and above the belt body side molding, about the size of a half dollar.

This is a NO RESERVE auction. If you are the winning bidder, you are the new owner. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask BEFORE you bid. We have tried to carefully explain all that is going on with the car and we want to have a positive experience for both parties.

THERE IS NO WARRANTY IMPLIED OR EXPRESSED WITH THIS AUTOMOBILE OR THIS SALE. Buyer assumes all responsibility for vehicle once car is paid for and leaves seller's hands. CAR IS STRICTLY BEING SOLD AS IS, WHERE IS!

BUYER ASSUMES ALL RESPONSIBILITY FOR PICK UP OR SHIPPING. We will cooperate with any shipper once payment has been made in full, but will not ship, deliver or send this car.

2015 Spanish F1 Grand Prix makes its Deutsche mark

Mon, May 11 2015

The first race of the European Formula One season inaugurates the second phase of the Championship. Teams overhaul their cars with the big updates they've been working on since Australia, and at the end of The Battle of Spain we find out how the positions on the field have changed. Mercedes-AMG Petronas driver Nico Rosberg brought a big update to his psychology, straight-up beating teammate Lewis Hamilton to take his first pole position of the season. Mercedes owns the front row and Ferrari maintains its status as primary challenger, Sebastian Vettel lining up in third. Williams proved it's been hitting the books to do better in class, though, Valtteri Bottas slotting into fourth. And Toro Rosso's visit to a track that rewards strong aero rewarded them with the best team grid position since the Italian Grand Prix in 2008: Carlos Sainz secured fifth, ahead of Max Verstappen in sixth. Kimi Raikkonen's bout of Saturday woes – it seems the Finn is always handicapped by lots of tiny issues – continued in Barcelona with one of his sets of prime tires getting cooked by malfunctioning tire warmers. He recovered well enough to take seventh on the grid, but he's got some strong competition ahead of him. He led three other drivers in the Continuous Issues department, Daniil Kvyat unable to wrestle his Infiniti Red Bull Racing higher than eighth, Williams driver Felipe Massa getting it wrong in Turn 3 to fall five places behind his teammate Bottas, and Daniel Ricciardo in the second Red Bull enduring another engine change and sloppy car behavior to get tenth. And while it turned out to be a steady race a little rough around the edges, the positions on the battlefield just might have changed. A little. Of the 66 laps in the race we might have seen Rosberg for three of them – maybe. The German got a smashing start, had a clear lead into Turn 1, and after that we checked in occasionally during his two pit stops and again at the checkered flag. He owned the entire weekend the way we're used to seeing his teammate do, and the cameras left him alone to run his race. No one got within seven seconds of him during the first third, and as the pit stop strategies played out that cushion grew. He finished seventeen seconds ahead of Hamilton, and 45 seconds ahead of third-placed Vettel. Hamilton, on the back foot all three days, stumbled out of the gate.
