Mercedes 126 W126 560sec Coupe, Taupe W/creme Beige Interior, Great Condition on 2040-cars
Alexandria, Virginia, United States
This is a two owner, original Mercedes 560SEC coupe. Has been maintained by MB dealer since new. Complete maintenance and repair records since new. Car has been owned since 1994 by current owner, who is an MBCA enthusiast with a collection of classic and antique Mercedes. This car has never been in an accident except for a couple of door dings and a 2MPH bump on the rear bumper which caused no damage and was repainted at the MB dealer. Car is in almost perfect mechanical condition. Only things needing attention are the cruise control amplifier (common issue) and reconnection of the sun visor mirror lights. Car has an updated Becker CD player radio, but original radio is included in working condition. Also, there are two sets of OEM wheels for summer and winter tires. The interior is also in outstanding condition, with supple leather seats with no tears or rips. Trunk is likewise very clean, with the only issue being where cleaner was leaked into the passenger wheel well depression. The carpet covering can be replaced by any reputable upholsterer on this part for about $150.00 if perfection is sought. John Olson's book, The SL Experience notes that the W126 coupe is the rarest Mercedes produced during the golden years of the 80s, before Mercedes ceased to be over engineered and plastic replaced leather and metal in their line. Less than 2,000 of these cars were made per year, and the 1990 and 1991 models are the last and most sought of this model. These rare coupes are starting to appreciate and will continue to appreciate in the future. This car just floats down the interstate with the most luxurious ride imaginable, better than today's cars. The 5.6 liter V8 provides ample power to do as you please in this car. Likewise, the body structure is extremely strong with no rattles and vibrations. The car has European glass halogen lights mounted, but the original US spec lights will also go with the car. This car offers perhaps the most for the money of any used car on the market today. You can drive it every day, and it will provide many, many years of pleasure. The engine and drivetrain is bulletproof, capable of going hundres of thousands of miles without the need of any rebuild if maintained to MB specs. This car gets lots of attention and thumbs up. The mechanics at the Mercedes dealership will ask you if you want to sell it when you drive in for scheduled oil changes or service. This car can win prizes in local Mercedes shows with all records and original books intact along with tool roll etc. I am selling it only to make room for other vehicles on my bucket list. BTW, this is my wife's favorite car. If you have any questions, I can provide the number of our master MB mechanic, known in the DC area as the Car Whisperer, who can vouch for the conditiion of this car. I am also happy to answer any questions for you--just ring me at 703.799.7465. The reserve is most reasonable. I am only asking a fair price for this classic car and am willing to sell it early based on a reasonable offer. The colors of desert taupe with a creme beige interior are gorgeous in any climate. Additional pictures are available on request. I will assist with pick up of vehicle by commercial shippers.

2015 Belgian Grand Prix is a return to scheduled programming
Mon, Aug 24 2015With summer intermission over, the second half of the Formula One season commenced in the Belgian countryside at Spa-Francorchamps. After qualifying, it looked a lot like the first half of the season with just a few minor changes. Lewis Hamilton was even more dominant in his Mercedes-AMG Petronas than usual, regularly taking half a second out of his teammate in just the middle sector of the circuit. Teammate Nico Rosberg tightened it up a tad for his final hot lap, but Hamilton still took pole by 0.45 seconds ahead of Rosberg in second. With his Williams back at a power track, Valtteri Bottas got himself up to third, although more than a second behind Hamilton. Romain Grosjean in the Lotus in fourth had his best qualifying performance since his fourth-place grid spot at the 2013 US Grand Prix. This was a huge boon for Lotus, the team facing another financial issue off track that threatened to have its cars impounded as soon as they left the circuit. Grosjean had to have his gearbox changed before the conclusion of six races, however, so the five-spot penalty meant he'd actually line up ninth for the race. Sergio Perez put the Sahara Force India in fifth, where we're more used to seeing his teammate Nico Hulkenberg, just ahead of Daniel Ricciardo in the Infiniti Red Bull Racing in sixth. Felipe Massa got the second Williams in seventh, in front of the second Lotus of Pastor Maldonado in eighth. Then came the first and only Ferrari in the top ten, Sebastian Vettel qualifying ninth after a disappointing Saturday for the scuderia; teammate Kimi Raikkonen suffered gearbox issues and qualified way down in 16th. Carlos Sainz took tenth in the Toro Rosso. A new start procedure in Belgium meant drivers had to handle clutches on their own, without the engineers finely tuning bite points between the garage and the start line. That was in conjunction with another rule limiting the kinds of radio messages possible between engineers and drivers, aiming to put more of the car in the drivers' hands. After an aborted start when Hulkenberg's car quit while sitting on the grid, Hamilton made the most of the new procedure. His start wasn't amazing but he beat everyone else off the line, while those behind were alternately getting bogged down or leaping ahead. Midway through the first lap the top ten was Hamilton, Perez, Ricciardo, Bottas, Rosberg, Vettel, Maldonado, Grosjean, Massa, Marcus Ericsson. At the end of 43 laps, Hamilton would still be in the lead.
Top 10 small cars with the longest total driving range
Thu, Mar 19 2015Editor's Note: Since this article was originally posted in the spring of 2015, much has changed in the automotive landscape, especially among those shopping for small car economy. With thanks to Volkswagen for their blatant cheating – and subsequent cover-up – on diesel emissions, the largest player in the diesel passenger car segment isn't playing – they're paying; billions are going for both car buybacks and federally-imposed penalties. And for a few VW execs there exists the very real possibility of jail. With the absence of a big player and the abrupt entrance – via Chevy's new Bolt – of an affordable EV with 200+ miles of range, we've limited the diesel listings to Jaguar's new XE. And for those wanting an updated look at efficiency and range, Autoblog has it – or the EPA has it. Long before electric vehicles were part of the mainstream conversation, car lovers and skinflints alike would boast about the total range of their vehicles. There's something about getting farther down the road on one tank of gas that inflames the competitive spirit, almost as much as horsepower output or top speed. Of course, the vehicles with the very best range on today's market are almost all big trucks and SUVs; virtually all have the ability to carry massive reserves of fuel. Top up a standard Chevy Suburban and you can expect to travel almost 700 miles (you'll need to stop before the Suburban stops...), while a diesel-fed Jeep Grand Cherokee manages almost as many. But what about vehicles that are smaller? The EPA has, essentially, three classifications for 'small' vehicles: Minicompact, Subcompact and Compact. All three are measured based on interior volume, meaning that some cars with rather large exterior dimensions and engines slot in next to traditional small cars. But even though impressive GT coupes from Porsche, Bentley and Mercedes-Benz may have much larger gas tanks to feed their powerful engines, that capacity is offset by higher rates of consumption... in most cases. We used the EPA's Fuel Economy Guide for model year 2017 cars as a start, calculating the official highway miles per gallon rating with each vehicle's tank capacity. The resulting numbers aren't necessarily real world, but they do offer a spectrum for total theoretical range. The eventual top ten surprised me on a few occasions, and comprised quite a varied list of vehicles. 10.
Mercedes takes VW Westfalia Camper idea upscale with new Marco Polo
Wed, 09 Jul 2014Earlier this year, Mercedes-Benz revealed the new V-Class. Slotting in below the popular Sprinter, the new V-Class replaced both the Viano and Vito upon its debut at the Geneva Motor Show. But Mercedes isn't quite done with it just yet. At the upcoming Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf, Germany, Mercedes will reveal the Marco Polo - a versatile, stylish and decidedly contemporary take on the classic camper van.
Named after the famous Italian explorer, the Marco Polo was converted by Westfalia, an outfit which you might more closely associate with classic VW camper vans but which Daimler absorbed over a decade ago. Offering, according to the press release below, "a maximum of opportunities to be independent, free and spontaneous," the Marco Polo sleeps four thanks to the rear bench that electrically folds flat into a bed and the second berth under the pop-top. The flexible interior is decked out like you'd expect a modern Mercedes to be, with ambient LED lighting as well as wood, metal and piano black trim.
It's got an onboard kitchenette with two gas burners, a sink and fridge with a 10 gallons of fresh water and an even bigger waste tank. All that gear is shlepped around by a choice of four-cylinder turbodiesel engines ranging in output from 136 to 190 horsepower. The relatively compact form boasts a turning circle similar to a full-size sedan and a height designed to fit into most garages and car washes. All of which just might make us reconsider the appeal of traveling by camper van.
