This is one of the first 1991 500Sl imported in USA. When my father bought it, Mercedes Benz of San Diego charged him a $5,000 mark up. MSRP was $94,000. This car was always in San Diego, CA until my father (89 years old now) gave it to me. The first thing my father did was to install a cellular phone. Remember how cellular phone were in 1991. Well the phone still in the car with no service of course. I ship the car to Arlington, Virginia and registered it under my name. I guess I can say is a one owner car. I have copy of the CA title under my father name to support that. My father gave me the car with 2 keys, manual owner and a very big binder with all the maintenance records and repairs. When I received the 500SL, the roof has some scratches. My father used to store the roof in his garage on a stand and I guess got scratched inside the garage. So I have the roof repaint. Other than that, the car was never in any accident or collision. Always indoor in CA and still indoor in VA. It is completely rust free. I also have a major tune up done. Cost $1500. Invoice is in the binder. I changed the wheels (still have the original), replace the front grille (AMG look) and clear front turn signal. New tires Michelin Pilot all around.
Everything is in pristine condition with the exception of a few things. Driver side sun visor miss the mirror cover. The passenger side door trim panel has the storage box lid with a broken tab. CD changer in the trunk (12 Discs) don't work. There is a paint chip on the driver side door cladding. All that is documented in the picture.

Daimler could sell off Li-Tec's EV battery business
Sat, May 24 2014Five-plus years may have been about enough time for Daimler AG to know whether it wanted to be in the battery-pack production business. The Mercedes-Benz parent may stop making electric-vehicle batteries and ultimately sell its Li-Tec battery-cell factory in Germany within two years, according to Bloomberg News which cites Manager Magazin. The beneficiary may be LG Electronics, which would likely take over battery-production duties for models such as Daimler's Smart ED battery-electric vehicle. Daimler is taking a number of steps to improve profit margins, which are thinner than those of its German rivals like BMW. Like its German competition, the company has lagged behind companies such as Nissan, Renault and Tesla Motors in terms of aggressively pursuing growth via plug-in vehicle sales. Daimler spokesman Hendrik Sackmann, in an e-mail to AutoblogGreen, would only say that the battery business is growing "rapidly" and that Li-Tec is developing "according to our plans." "Regarding Li-Tec, we are working on a concept for the future line-up," he added. "The battery cells for the successor of the Smart electric drive won't be provided by Li-Tec." Daimler in 2008 launched Li-Tec as a joint venture with Evonik, though Daimler recently put plans together to buy out Evonik's 50-percent share of Li-Tec, Bloomberg reported last month. Evonik's role was manufacturing electrodes and separators for batteries. Daimler also said last fall that it was looking to cooperate more extensively with Tesla in regards to electric vehicle development. The two companies first said they'd work together in 2009. Recharge Wrap-up: KillaJoule hits 270 mph; Mercedes B-Class ED gets PlugShare
Wed, Sep 24 2014The Mercedes-Benz B-Class Electric Drive will get its own version of the PlugShare charging-station locator app. Developed by Recargo with the help of Daimler, the vehicle-specific app will be integrated into the car's navigation system. The system maps the location of nearby charging stations from various networks. So far, Mercedes-Benz doesn't offer a universal pay service for the various charging networks, like those offered by BMW and Nissan. Read more at Green Car Reports. HyperSolar uses solar energy to make hydrogen from water. Without using electrolyzers, HyperSolar uses a photochemical process to separate and capture the hydrogen in the water, which can then be used for clean energy, such as automotive fuel cells. The solar devices are submerged in water inside a container, and sunlight powers the device to free the hydrogen. HyperSolar claims that its process is more efficient and cost effective than other methods used to produce hydrogen from water. After a computer model showed a possibility of about 270 mph, the team took the motorcycle with sidecar out to the salt flats for Mike Cook's Shootout. Everything went smoothly, and Hakansson easily surpassed speeds of the 249.1-mph world record she set a few weeks ago. The team is calling it quits for the season, but will make some tweaks to the KillaJoule in hopes of getting 300 mph out of the red bullet next year. Next Mercedes-Benz GLK to get AMG variant? Not likely...
Fri, 15 Mar 2013If you think Mercedes-Benz will slap an AMG badge on anything with wheels, think again. Word has it the German manufacturer will not offer buyers a performance version of the GLK, with Tobias Moers, director of AMG vehicle development, saying that he doesn't see a market for the car. That's not to say the picture won't change in the near future, however. According to CarAdvice.com, AMG is keeping a close eye on the arrival of the Porsche Macan.
"Maybe there will be a change in the market when the Porsche [Macan] comes up," Moers said, "but right now, no."
The real hitch in the giddy-up seems to be cost. Moers says developing the machine into something worthy of an AMG would represent "a huge investment." We can't exactly argue with that. Fortunately, AMG buyers have plenty of Mercedes-Benz models to choose from.
