1989 Mercedes-Benz 560 SEL
This flagship Mercedes-Benz is one of the last of those that were hand-built entirely in Germany! The fit, finish and quality of this car is extraordinary, and represents the foundation on which Mercedes-Benz built its legendary reputation!
If you’re looking for a nice, clean, well-maintained and reliable Mercedes-Benz 560 SEL, this is it!
This is a No Reserve auction, meaning that the highest bidder at the end of the auction wins, regardless of the final price!
This 560 SEL is loaded with options including a powerful 279 HP 5.6L V8 engine, Automatic Transmission, Automatic Climate Control, Air Conditioning, Leather 8-way Memory Power Front Seats and Dual Stage Heat, Leather Power Reclining Rear Seats with Heat, Driver and Passenger Front Airbags, Four wheel ABS Disc Brakes, Power Sliding Sunroof, Cruise Control, Power Steering, Power Door Locks, Power Windows, Chrome Wheels, Premium Sound System with DVD Player, CD Changer, Tinted Glass, and Anti-Theft Alarm.
The body is in very good condition, as is depicted in the several, unedited pictures below. The car has always been garaged-kept and pampered. The only spot of rust that can be found is a small blister by the front, passenger-side headlight. Other than this one, isolated spot, there is no other rust on the car. This is true for the underside of the car as well, which is completely rust-free.
The interior is clean and inviting. All of the switches and electronics function exactly as they should. The original radio was replaced with a touch-screen radio/CD/DVD player, which also has a built-in back-up camera (not connected). Additionally, there is a six-disc CD changer in the trunk that is controlled with an in-dash control unit as well. The only blemish is a small wear spot in the left bolster of the driver’s seat. Other than this, the interior is practically flawless.
This car was primarily used for daily, long,
highway commutes, as the mileage accurately reflects. It is not uncommon for 560’s to accumulate
well in excess of 500k miles, with proper maintenance, which this car has
consistently received. There are no
warning lights displayed on the dash and the engine starts at the turn of the
key, is quiet, steady and delivers smooth power throughout the entire rev range. All of the wheels and tires are well-balanced
and the car drives perfectly straight down the road. The brakes were just serviced, including new
rear brake calipers and pads, and firmly stop the car without any shaking or
vibration. Overall, this is an extremely sturdy, thoroughly maintained and very well cared for example of the legendary Mercedes-Benz 560 SEL. I wouldn’t hesitate to get into this car today and drive it anywhere!
A non-refundable $500 deposit by credit/debit card or bank account through PayPal is due within 24 hours after the close of the auction. The remaining balance must be paid within five business days via bank wire transfer, or cash. This car is being sold AS-IS, with no warranty stated or implied in any way. I’m happy to help with shipping arrangements, but this will ultimately be the responsibility of the winning bidder. If you should have any additional questions about this car that haven’t been covered in the description, please ask me. The car is available to be seen and test driven, which I fully encourage; however, please arrange to do this before the auction is completed. Please note that I have blocked buyers from bidding that do not have a Paypal account. If you do not have a Paypal account, but would like to bid, please contact me.
Thank you for looking and best of luck in the auction! |

US buyers show little interest in big hybrids
Sat, May 10 2014The idea of producing large, luxury-vehicle hybrids is turning into a "what were they thinking?" exercise in futility, USA Today reports. General Motors is discontinuing hybrid versions of the Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon SUVs, while Mercedes-Benz and Toyota's Lexus division are doing the same with their S-Class hybrid and LS hybrid sedans, respectively. The culprit? Big price increases for fuel economy improvements that border on the unimpressive. Granted, the Escalade hybrid gets 31 percent better fuel economy than the standard version, but that still maps out to a combined fuel-efficiency rating of just 21 miles per gallon. That can be seen as a worthwhile increase, if it didn't cost over $8,000 extra. The 2014 Escalade Hybrid, for example, starts at $74,425 while the non-hybrid can be had for $66,295. Meanwhile, the Lexus full-size hybrid costs $6,000 more than the regular version but only gets 1-2 mpg better combined fuel economy. The result of all these high costs? Low sales. Through April, GM sold 82 of its hybrid SUVs and pickups, down from 541 a year earlier. And the LS hybrid sales were in single-digit territory for April. That isn't stopping Lexus from promoting its hybrids as the right solution (with the wrong facts), though. There are still automakers giving big hybrid vehicles a shot, though. Nissan's Infiniti division is selling a hybrid version of its QX60 and says an impressive 10 percent of QX60 buyers choose the hybrid, which costs just $3,000 more. Looks like money talks. Race recap: 2015 British Grand Prix is a testament to timing
Mon, Jul 6 2015In front of his home crowd, Lewis Hamilton actually had to work for pole position at the British Formula One Grand Prix. The World Champion couldn't get on top of the setup for his Mercedes-AMG Petronas on Friday, lapping behind teammate Nico Rosberg and the two Ferraris. Come Saturday, after a few alterations and a whole lot of wing to clamp down on understeer, Hamilton returned to his regular program at the front, taking pole position by just over a tenth of a second from his teammate. Williams, thought to be headed for another stretch in the weeds a few races ago, showed its best strength all year. The Grove team got both cars on the second row and in front of the Ferraris, Felipe Massa qualifying ahead of teammate Valtteri Bottas, but they were eight and nine tenths behind the Mercedes'. Kimi Raikkonen out-qualified Ferrari teammate Sebastian Vettel for the second time this year, and only the first time in a straight-up battle with two healthy cars. But more than a second behind the two cars at the front, and with two nearly-impossible-to-pass Williams' in front, neither the Finn nor the German is happy with where they are. Daniil Kvyat claimed seventh, his side of the garage at Infiniti Red Bull Racing having got through the weekend to that point without a single complaint about their Renault power unit. Carlos Sainz, Jr. put a single Toro Rosso inside the top ten in eighth position, ahead of Nico Hulkenberg who did the same for Sahara Force India by slotting in ninth. The second Infiniti Red Bull driven by Daniel Ricciardo did have an unspecified engine complaint – his car kept "bleeding power" on the straights – but even so he managed to qualify tenth with his second-fastest lap. The stewards deleted his best lap because he ran three centimeters outside the track limits at Copse, an infraction that stung a few other drivers as well. Up in front, what would sting the Mercedes-AMG Petronas drivers the most was the start. That's when a dearth of grip struck both Hamilton and Rosberg, allowing Massa and Bottas to slide right up the middle between them and take the first two places. The leapfrogging was so surprising that it looked like the Mercedes drivers were giving the Williams drivers a head start. They diced through the first corners, Hamilton sliding past Bottas into second place halfway through the lap. And then the safety car reported for duty.
2014 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series [w/video]
Fri, 15 Nov 2013The biggest misconception about the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series is that it's simply a higher-performing version of the SLS GT - a closer look, or better yet, a few hot laps on a high-speed racing circuit, reveals that is anything but the case.
Launched in the States in mid-2011, the standard SLS GT is a 583-horsepower, all-aluminum, gull-wing coupe with performance that positions it near the top of the exotic segment. While the AMG team at Mercedes-Benz could have left it alone, their experience with the SLS AMG GT3 race car said there was room for improvement, so they devised the SLS Black Series. The transformation from SLS GT to SLS Black Series is extensive, with no fewer than 17 different significant enhancements.
The engine mapping, crankshaft, connecting rods, valve-train, intake, exhaust and cooling are all modified and the engine's redline bumps up from 7,200 to 8,000 rpm, which pushes output of the hand-built 6.3-liter V8 to 622 horsepower. The power steering receives a new ratio, a coil-over AMG Adaptive Performance suspension is installed along with underbody braces, the track is widened, two-piece carbon-ceramic brakes replace iron rotors at each corner and a lightweight titanium exhaust is fitted beneath. The AMG Speedshift seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox is modified and an electronically controlled AMG rear differential lock ensures the power goes to the pavement. Last on the mechanical upgrades are new lightweight forged wheels (10x19 inches front and 12x20 inches rear) wrapped in special R-compound Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires.
