UTTERLY AMAZING AND ELEGANT1988 MERCEDES BENZ 420 SEL

W126 S-Class

with stamped maintenance records. Only 2 owners since new!!!!!

If you are looking at this ad you are probably already familiar with the magnificent s-class Mercedes of the late 80's and early 90's.  No one needs to tell you that they were and are world class motorcars.

This Mercedes has been meticulously owned and maintained by only two owners since new!!!  The original owners bought the car new and kept it into their 80's.  After the wife died the husband kept the car for several years before offering this stunning and mint motor car for sale.  The current owner bought the car to add to his collection and has continued to meticulously care for the car.  This car is absolutely amazing in it's condition.  The biggest flaw on the car's finish is pointed out in one of the photographs.....a 1.5 inch scratch on the top of the left rear quarter that has been touched up years ago with the factory touch up paint.  And just to clarify...look at the picture carefully.  There looks like another scratch in the paint but that is in fact merely the reflection from the concrete driveway joint in the paint!!!  The paint is near flawless with no fading or cracking of clear coat.  Literally the only visible place is the photo described.

The interior is stunning with all carpets in perfect condition.  As you can see the carpets are covered with color matching shag mats so as not to stain or soil the Mercedes floor mats.
The only interior flaw is the slight discoloration of the trim that holds the nylon netting on the back of the seats.  This could easily be resprayed by a professional interior re-finisher.

This beautiful motorcar runs and drives as well as it looks.  The A/C is working and blows cold.  Car is road worthy.

The car has been in Georgia the vast majority of it's life. The original owners plate shows Sunnydale, Ca and then owners moved to Atlanta, Georgia where the car remains to this day.

This car is the real deal with no surprises.
Simply put it's just amazing!

The car is sold in "as is/were is" condition and their are no warranties expressed or implied.  This is a legally binding auction and please do not bid on this car unless you are able and willing to purchase it at auctions close.  New Ebayers or Ebayers with negative feedback please do not bid on the motorcar without first contacting seller.

The reason seller is offering this car for sale is that his daughter is getting married in the fall and he is letting go of a few of his collector cars to pay for a "few" folks dinner after the wedding.  Seller reserves the right to end auction early prior to the reserve being met.

There are no test drives after the auction has ended.  Inspections are welcome prior to auctions end for qualified buyers.  This car is not for the faint of heart or wallet.  It's the real deal and there are very few S-Class Cars from this period remaining in this outstanding condition with such few miles.  This pictures are a fair representation of the car. Photographs were taking after simply using a California duster to remove garage dust.  The car has not been washed in six months.

The Mercedes-Benz W126 is a series of flagship vehicles manufactured by German automotive marque Mercedes-Benz. Premiering in September 1979 as the successor to the earlier W116 line, the W126 was the second generation of the Mercedes-Benz flagship to officially bear the S-Class name referring to Sonderklasse or "special class." The W126 was initially offered in straight-6, V8, and turbo diesel sedan models. In September 1981, 2-door coup'e versions of the W126 were introduced. Compared to its predecessor, the W126 was more aerodynamic, fuel efficient, capacious, and powerful. The W126 S-Class debuted a new Mercedes-Benz design style which was subsequently used on other vehicles in the company's lineup. The W126 line also introduced many Mercedes-Benz safety innovations, including the first airbag supplemental restraint systems, seatbelt pretensioners, and traction control.

A new mercedes of this caliber is around $100,000.  This car at the time listed for high $50's to mid $60's and with inflation pushes $100K.  A guest at seller's home recently asked "is that a new Mercedes?"  Drive this car for a few years and make it a collector.  Or add it to your collection today!!

The car is located in McDonough, Georgia which is a suburb of Atlanta and is located approximately 25 miles from Atlanta's Hartsfield International Airport.  Fly in and drive it home!!!

Vehicle must be paid for in full and funds cleared before car will be released from seller.  Car is to be paid for in full within 7 days of auction close.  Please do not bid if you aren't prepared and able to complete sale.

Gordon Murray, F1-driven production and .. the Pontiac Fiero

Tue, Oct 31 2017

Gordon Murray's design and engineering chops are unquestionable. But does his carmaking approach owe something to the short-lived Pontiac Fiero, a scrappy little car program that emerged from GM against serious resistance? Murray had a Formula One career that ran from 1969 to 1991, with stints at Brabham ('69 to '86) and McLaren ('87-'91), that resulted in several shelves' worth of trophies for the cars he was instrumental in designing. He moved on to McLaren Cars, the consumer side of things, where, during his tenure from 1991 to 2004, he helped design the McLaren F1 and the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, two cars that took learnings from his two decades in Formula One. What do all of these cars have in common? Three things: They are light. They were built in limited numbers. And they were (and are) exceedingly expensive—when the McLaren F1 debuted in 1994, it stickered at $815,000. Murray went on to establish Gordon Murray Design in 2007. GMD has created some interesting concept vehicles, such as the diminutive T.25 city car (94.5 inches long, 51.1 inches wide and 55.1 inches high), and the OX, a lightweight truck for the developing world that packs like an IKEA shelf and is working toward realization through a worthy crowdfunding campaign established by the Global Vehicle Trust. Now he has created a vehicle manufacturing company, Gordon Murray Automotive, that will use manufacturing methods that he developed under the moniker "iStream." Unlike a unibody, there are the "iFrame," a cage-like construction made with metallic components, and the "iPanels," which are composite. The panels aren't simply a decorative skin; they actually provide structure to the vehicle. Presumably this has something of the F1 monocoque about it. Going back to the three elements, (1) this arrangement results in a vehicle that can be comparatively light; (2) Murray has indicated that his manufacturing company will be doing limited-run production; and (3) to launch Gordon Murray Automotive they are going to be building a flagship model, about which Murray said, "With our first new car, we will demonstrate a return to the design and engineering principles that have made the McLaren F1 such an icon." Which seems to imply that it will be on the pricey side. According to the company's verbiage, "iStream forges an entirely new production method that defies conventionality with its Formula One-derived construction and materials technologies." It also sounds a whole lot like ...

Top horsepower-per-dollar cars in 2017

Tue, Feb 17 2015

Bang for the buck. That quasi-scientific statistic is bandied about by motor heads everywhere from classrooms to barrooms, though the truth of the matter is that it's exceedingly complex to measure. A fair performance-per-dollar index would include something like cross-referencing MSRP (Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price) with point-to-point times on a track or driving route, which is obviously hard to do comprehensively. But, for the sheer joy of talking about cars and playing with a big spreadsheet, there's always the horsepower-per-dollar index, which is more straightforward, albeit hilariously flawed. There are vagaries even with this simple formula, of course: MSRP for vehicles can change at a moment's notice, to say nothing of the bottom-line shifting that happens with local deals or showroom negotiation. For this list we're running with the straight MSRP wherever possible, and as recently reported as we can get it. All the vehicles on this list are 2017 models, and all trims are reported where the lowest price and differing power levels intersect. Some choices were made for personal preference and some for sanity, avoiding things like all 48 trim levels of the Ford Transit, all with the same horsepower). If this list were a simple top ten, or even a top fifty, you'd be bored to tears with all the red, white and blue that is represented. Following perfectly with conventional wisdom, American cars really do lead the world where hp/$ is concerned. So, for the sake of variety (and the sheer joy of seeing a minivan 'win' one round of this thing) I've sorted out some top five and bottom five lists for broad power categories. Let's dive in. Less Than 100 Horsepower Okay, okay, this is hardly a category we'll grant you. But we've often tried to click off all the sub-100-hp cars on sale in the US, and making this list gave us an excuse. It also illustrates that none of these smallish vehicles bring cheap horsepower to the table - for that you'll need a motorcycle. The segment-leading Chevy Spark (above) asks just over $139 for each hp, and that Smart Fortwo Electric Drive has hp on sale for about the same price as its very distant family cousin, the Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG (insert your favorite Smart joke here... we know you want to).

2014 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series [w/video]

Wed, 13 Mar 2013

Now Even Sharper Than The Razor's Edge
There have been five Black Series models since the Mercedes-Benz SLK55 AMG Black Series introduced itself to European audiences in 2006. Following that, the Black Series club has hosted appearances by the 2008 CLK63 AMG Black Series, the 2009 SL65 AMG Black Series and last year's 2013 C63 AMG Black Series. The sixth member of the group is one we would have thought already was a Black Series car in its standard guise. Right out of the box, the SLS AMG is loud, frenetic, cozy, boisterous and frightfully easy to oversteer. How much more Black did it need to get?
Quite a bit so, apparently. The SLS AMG Black Series has lost weight, gained power and been refitted with upgrades and aero bits from front to rear. If you liked the way it looked before, you'll probably be an even bigger fan of this one. If you thought it looked ungainly, well, this one should stay even further away from pageants. Regardless of where you come down this is the best SLS AMG variant we've driven.
