1974 Mercedes 450 SEL Very Rare Factory Color All-Original In and Out VIN: 11603312021803 Here’s another rare, great-running & driving Mercedes we’ve acquired recently for our Ebay customers. This nice W116 Series car sold new at Bellingham’s Wilson Imports Mercedes Benz on December 23, 1974 and has spent its entire life driving our salt-free Pacific Northwest roads. From the moment I first laid eyes on this spotless sedan, it was obvious that it’s received the utmost respect and care over the years. There aren’t many left out there in this condition and brings to mind the old saying in the collector world: “Any car can be restored, given enough time & money, but it can only be factory original once!” Reluctantly, it was turned over to us two weeks ago by only its second caretaker for resale. I’ve got to tell you, having driven it virtually every day since, what a treat! Where else will you find this kind of luxury, vintage style, safety, mechanical reliability AND decent economy wrapped up in one gorgeous ride? Please feel free to contact me with questions or to make an offer. My name is Mark Thompson and my direct phone number is 206/914-1173. You’re encouraged to make an appointment to inspect and drive this outstanding car here at my Auburn warehouse facility.
In total, this is a clean, well-cared-for, smoke-free car. I take great pride in the vehicles we sell and feel that you should know as much about it as possible. Accordingly here is a list of what I’ve discovered: Hop in and turn the key, even when starting cold, and the powerful 4.5 liter V-8 engine fires right up every time! The car idles, runs and drives like a Mercedes is supposed to – instant, strong oil pressure, good battery and charging system, no overheating, no brake pull to either side or alignment issues! The automatic transmission shifts smoothly between all gears, just as it should, with NO slippage. I’ve now put on almost 400 miles over the past few days including freeway cruising at 65 MPH for several hours at a time. The ultra-rare lime-green metallic paint appears factory original to me and, with the exception of a few small rock chips, is virtually flawless; no thin spots or peeling clearcoat anywhere! I’ve not come across any evidence of accidents or body repair. Spotless chrome and exterior trim all around, too! Look at any other Mercedes and almost all will have cloudy, oxidized aluminum trim. Every piece on this car is almost showroom condition, the best I’ve yet encountered. The front fenders, doors, rear quarters and floor pans are all solid; in fact the entire undercarriage is about the best you’ll find on any 40 year-old car! The factory wheels are straight and true. They’re wrapped with 205/70R14 Michelin MXV4 radials with at least 75-80% tread remaining. Take another good look at the interior shots. Hop in and feel comfortable sitting on these firm buckets for hours as the springs have held up far better than most. There’s only marginal wear on passenger front bucket, but you will find a few splits and a wear-thru spot on the driver’s side backrest. The rear bench hasn’t suffered the fate of most other W116 cars and still has great underlayment and near perfect upholstery on both the base and back rest. You’ll love the very large sunroof! Open it year-round and it’s almost like driving a convertible. The heater/defroster system blows warm & cold just fine. I haven’t attempted to see what the A/C would need to be functional, though it looks like it’s all there. Both the speedo and mileage counter work perfectly, but I don’t have any way to know if the mileage showing is actual. There’s no evidence of any water leakage ever on the headliner or factory carpets. It’s a mystery why Daimler has always had difficulty coming up with a quality, long-lasting German stereo for any of their cars. Even modern Mercedes seem to always have poor radios so it’s not surprising that the former owner changed out the original Becker stereo for a nice Panasonic CD model some time ago. The jack, spare and original tools are in the trunk as shown in the photo. Please check the photos over closely and call me with any questions BEFORE you place a bid! You’re encouraged to stop by, inspect the car at my Auburn, WA warehouse and take it for a test drive. As always, it is being sold “as-is, where-is” with a clean, free & clear Washington State title. Because of the amount of money involved with a vehicle purchase, I reserve the right to cancel your bid if you have any negative feedback. I also ask that potential bidders with a feedback rating of five or fewer transactions on Ebay contact me before placing their bid. Please feel free to contact me directly through Ebay’s system or, as outlined above, call me at 206/914-1173 anytime. My name is MARK THOMPSON. A Few Additional Terms and Conditions: A nonrefundable $500 deposit is due within 48 hours of the auction’s end. We can accept PAYPAL, but only for the deposit amount because of the high fees they charge. The balance is due by cash or certified funds within seven business days unless prior arrangements have been made with me. Please remember you are bidding to buy and I fully expect the winning bidder to fulfill their Ebay contract! You’re not bidding to hold or then come inspect and test-drive the vehicle later -- You’re more than welcome to do this before the auction ends. If you do decide to have the Benz shipped home, there are numerous vehicle transport companies to choose from. We deal with them regularly and I'd suggest that you get a transport bid from Dependable Auto Shippers (DAS). They're EBay’s preferred transporter and will give you a fair quote. Call my designated rep, Janice, directly at (469)587-5096. Give her my affiliate number (2362642) and she can pull up all our information for door-to-door or even station-to-station price quotes. As an alternative, you might also get bids from the U-Ship.com website and be able to choose a transport broker from multiple offers. The zip code for pick-up is 98002 (Auburn, Washington). The shipping of the vehicle and company chosen are the responsibility of the BUYER. The Mercedes can be stored free of charge at my location for up to two weeks after the auction ends assuming full payment has been received. After that period storage is $20 per day.

Consumer Reports selling its road-tested roadsters [w/video]
Thu, 31 Jan 2013Here's a chance to acquire a celebrity-owned vehicles, and this time at a discount instead of a premium. So the celebrity in this case is Consumer Reports, that magazine that could be equally adored and abhored by car enthusiasts. CR buys all of its test vehicles and usually finds willing second owners within its own ranks, but its opening its small used-car lot to the public. On the forecourt are four roadsters: an automatic 2012 Audi TT 2.0 TFSI Quattro S-Tronic with 6,600 miles for $36,500, a manual 2012 BMW Z4 sDrive28i with 8,400 miles for $45,000, a manual 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLK250 for $39,500 and a manual 2013 Porsche Boxster with 7,000 miles for $48,000.
Those numbers mean a savings of $9,000 to $10,000 before haggling - each car is listed with an "Asking price" so there could be some wiggle room if you show up with pockets full of dough and eyes full of serious intent. Since the money CR earns from the sales go back into the magazine's budget to buy more test cars, however, it probably won't take any oddball trades, so you can forget about getting any purchasing help from that track-day AMC Javelin project on blocks in the back yard.
The vehicles have been taken care of and spiffed up for sale; buyers will take delivery at the CR test track in East Haddam, Connecticut and get a tour of the facilities. While you're there they'll even take you on a lap around the track so you can feel how your car handles when driven by one of its testers. They will probably not help you with advice on which toaster and dehumidifier to buy - you'll still need to get a subscription for that. Have a look at the video below to see a day in the life of a CR test car.
2015 Mercedes C-Class order guide leaked
Wed, 23 Apr 2014We may not have an official starting price for the 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class, but as of right now, we can tell you about all the options for the eagerly anticipated new luxury sedan.
Benz Report has the entire order guide for the C-Class, with breakdowns from package pricing to how many different colors, wheel designs and lighting configurations will be available when the new model hits dealers later this year. As we mentioned in our initial review of the C-Class, there will be a pair of engine options, with the now familiar 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder available in both rear- and all-wheel-drive configurations and a 3.0-liter, twin-turbocharged V6, which can be had in all-wheel drive, only.
From there, though, the available options are impressive. Much like it does on the current car, Mercedes is offering a pair of packages that sort of define the entire car. With the C300, buyers will have the choice of either a Sport or Luxury package in addition to the base trim, while C400 buyers are limited to the Sport model.
Mercedes teams with Pebble for smartwatch tech
Tue, 24 Dec 2013Most automakers have realized by now that a good infotainment system is a must-have feature for many buyers, and have, as a result, invested increasing amounts of time and money developing these technologies. But some automakers are going above and beyond in-car entertainment and navigation technology by focusing on wearable technology as well.
Nissan has emerged as one such company, developing its own alternative to Google Glass and performance-oriented smartwatch. But Mercedes-Benz is also putting itself at the forefront of wearable tech - not by developing competing products to those designed by dedicated tech companies, but by working with them. The German automaker, as we recently reported, is developing its own app for Google Glass, and is now doing the same with smartwatches as well.
Set to be unveiled at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Mercedes has collaborated with Pebble Technologies to develop the Digital DriveStyle app. The system will display tell its wearer where the car is, whether the doors are locked and if it needs fuel. Inside the car it'll alert the driver to potential hazards coming up on the road, while making functions like re-routing the nav system, controlling the audio system or activating Siri that much easier.
