Selling one of the best original condition cars I have ever owned. This is a 1973 Mercedes-Benz 450 SE sedan.(Chassis Code W116.032)   This is the last year of the desireable chrome bumpers (which are perfect). It is a 3 owner car, originally from Nevada. The last two owners were father / son and had the car for 35 years (always garaged) and you will be able to tell when you see it. The orginal owner was their friend, who was a physician and owned the car for only a few years. It has always been serviced per manufacture guidelines. Everything is original on the car, except the updated Blaupunkt stereo system. The car has absolutely no rust on it. The paint is absolutely beautiful, with only a few minor imperfections (a small dime size dent around the rear bumper molding, some tiny bug chips on the front grill area and one thin/light scratch a couple inches long at the bottom of the driver door. The headliner is perfect with no sagging. The seats are MB tex and only a tiny tear on the driver seat. They still have that distinctive German smell, and those that know German cars, know exactly what I mean...love it! We do have a lambskin cover on the driver seat,  for comfort.  The floor mats are doubled in all areas and the originals are on the bottom and super clean! PLEASE SEE MY PHOTOBUCKET LINK: I have over 70 pictures of the car in here. If you need more, I can upload more.

The engine bay is immaculate (see pictures). Brand new spark plugs & wires. New Battery with warranty. The chrome on this car is PERFECT! The dash has a small / thin crack (about 2 inches) but otherwise is perfect (again...see pix). We do have a new dash cover over it to protect. All the instruments / gauges work, except the clock does not keep accurate time.

Car runs and shifts as it should and cruises very well down the freeway. Does not smoke, does not burn oil. A/C and Heat work well. This is awesome luxury. It will get you wherever you need to go, with confidence. Power windows all work (the front ones are a little slow, compared to the rear). Power antennna works perfectly. Floor pan, trunk pan, undercarriage are all great, with no rust at all. Brakes are strong. Tires are basically brand new with full tread (Pirelli P70's).   Also comes with 2 new Michelin snow tires  (I know you'll ask why...came from Nebraska & Nevada...I see no evidence of salt corrosion or rust)  Even the hub caps are gorgeous!

The sun visors have some sun damage to them but remain tight and it is the side that faces the roof, so not a big deal. All the seals and gaskets are solid. I have not even noticed a drip of oil or fluids on the garage floor. Comes with original tool kit and jack. The gaps are perfect on the car, as they were from the show room floor. The car has never been wrecked and there is no body work done. This thing must have 500 lbs of paint on it...this kind of quality is not seen in today's cars. And the paint is phenomenal on this car.  The doors are tight and when you shut them, you know this is a true Merecedes classic. The vacuum locks all work.

It is hard to find much wrong with this car, and I know whoever purchases it will be pleased. Please not that this car does not come with a warranty and is SOLD AS IS, WHERE IS. I will assist with coordinating shippers both domestic and internationally, if needed, but all shipping fees are at the buyer's expense.

Fastest cars in the world by top speed, 0-60 and quarter mile

Tue, Feb 13 2024

A claim for the title of “Fastest Car in the World” might seem easy to settle. ItÂ’s actually anything but: Are we talking production cars, race cars or customized monsters? And what does “fastest” even mean? For years, car publications have tended to define “fastest” in terms of an unbeatable top speed. ThatÂ’s distinct from the “quickest” car in a Usain Bolt-style dash from the starting blocks, as with the familiar 0-60 mph metric. Professionals often focus on track lap times or elapsed time-to-distance, as with a drag racer thatÂ’s first to trip the beam of light at the end of a quarter-mile; or the 1,000-foot trip of nitromethane-powered NHRA Top Fuel and Funny Car dragsters. Something tells us, however, that you're not seeking out an answer of "Brittany Force rewriting the NHRA record books with a 3.659-second pass at a boggling 338.17 mph." For most barroom speed arguments, the focus is firmly on cars you can buy in showrooms, even if many are beyond the financial means of all but the wealthiest buyers and collectors. Here are some of the enduring sources of speed claims, counter-claims, tall tales and taunting dismissals that are the lifeblood of car enthusiasts – now with EVs adding an unexpected twist to these passionate pursuits.   Fastest from the blocks: 0-60 mph Thirty years ago, any car that could clock 60 mph in five seconds or less was considered extremely quick. Today, high-performance, gasoline-powered sedans and SUVs are routinely breaking below 4 seconds. As of today, the 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 crushes all with a 0-60 mph time of just 1.66 seconds. That's simply absurd, but keep in mind the Demon was engineered with the single-minded purpose of going fast in a straight line. It's also important to realize that direct comparisons are difficult, because not all of these times were accomplished with similar conditions (prepped surfaces, adjustments for elevation and so on). The moral here is to take these times with a tiny grain of salt. After the Dodge, the Rimac Nevera comes in with an officially recorded 0-60 mph time of just 1.74 seconds. EVs crowd the quickest list, with the Pininfarina Battista coming in a few hundredths slower (1.79 seconds) than the Nevera and the Lucid Air sapphire (1.89 seconds) right after that. Eventually, you arrive to the Tesla Model S Plaid, which has a claimed 1.99-second 0-60 mph time, though instrumented testing by Car and Driver shows it accomplishes the deed in 2.1 seconds.

Chris Harris and David Coulthard wring out a Mercedes Fintail at the N"urburgring

Thu, 17 Oct 2013

If there's one thing we've learned from the latest video from Drive, it's that the combination of Chris Harris and David Coulthard will produce some very quotable moments. Take this exchange, for example.
DC: "We are by some way the slowest."
CH: "But we're in a class of three cars, apparently."
