Santa Monica, California, United States

I am listing my friend's 240D for him so here is his description.

I am selling my very, nice condition, 1979 Mercedes Benz 240D with many interesting options.

EXTERIOR

The body and paint are in superb shape. The car was painted an original Signal Red color to a high standard, but it was originally white. There is no evidence of the original white paint. The door strikers have some light overspray on them. The car was also color sanded and buffed and looks fantastic, dare to say better than an original paint one. All the aluminum trim is in excellent condition and the glass is original Mercedes. The windshield and windshield seal were replaced. The corner lights and original plastic head light surrounds are in fine condition and the tail lights are perfect with no cracks.

The bumpers are the rare European ones both front and rear and are in very nice shape with no rust or dents. Even the rubber corners are not cracked or ripped. The front grille is not cracked or bent and the chrome is in super shape.

The rims are the correct 240D ones that are all dated correctly including the original spare rim.  The hub caps are straight and not damaged and painted the Signal Red to match. The white wall tires are new as well, and all wheels run true and are balanced.

The car still has its original blue and yellow california plates too!

INTERIOR

Overall the interior is in excellent shape.

The color is a less common reddish brown. The seats are firm with no rips or sags. The headliner is tight and not ripped or marked up or dirty.  The door panels are original and in very nice shape too with no rips or marks. The dash has a few cracks. The carpets are original with no tears or fading. Steering wheel is tight with no damage either. The wood is good with a small chipped off part next to the emergency switch.

The gauges all work and are accurate, even the clock works. The odometer reads 208,696

TRUNK

The trunk is in immaculate condition. The trunk liners are like new with no marks or even dirt. The wooden board above the spare tire is not warped and all the paint in the spare tire is excellent. The car comes with the original Mercedes jack and lug wrench. The spare tire is nearly new. The original grey carpet is also in fine condition.

ENGINE/ MECHANICAL

The engine runs very well and I have maintained it regularly with all receipts. When faced with the option of a German part or a lesser Chinese version, I always chose the correct brand.
The injection pump was adjusted to have a bit more power and the throttle linkage stopping point lengthened in order to have a little more power too. These small details allowed my 240D to accelerate more like a 5 cylinder 300D. This car is drives nicely on the freeway with no shaking and good power when getting up to merging speed.

Transmission was serviced and does not slip. Kick down works and the shift bushings are in good shape too.

I had the engine and underside de-greased then drove it in order to find any leaks and fix them. The engine compartment was then detailed as well. It is in superb condition.

The air cleaner mounts and bracket were replace, the belts, power steering pump re-built, radiator flushed and block back flushed, new glow plugs, Diesel purge to the engine, new air cleaner, fuel filters ( both ), replaced the fuel hose, replaced the flex disc, brakes are new(er), replaced the battery.

The car came with air conditioning but is not working now. Central door locking does not work but each door lock individually.  Heat works fine.

DETAILS

The car has current registration and has a clean California title in my name. One key fits all locks as per original. The car is very clean throughout, very clean, and is a real pleasure to drive. The car is located in Los Angeles, and you are welcome, in fact, encouraged to come test drive/ inspect the car.

Deposit of $750 is required within 48 hours of the close of the auction, the balance to be paid within 5 days of the close of the auction. I can help with the loading of the car should you want to ship it. The car is to be picked up no later than 10 days after the close of the auction, I do no have the room.

You can fly in to LA and drive it home with confidence. I drive my car regularly and keep it in great running condition.

New Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe spied in revealing state of dress

Tue, 19 Feb 2013

During a product briefing earlier this year, Mercedes-Benz told us that 2013 would be the "year of the S-Class." Makes sense, too, since the flagship Mercedes is so very close to finally showing its production-ready face. But the high-tech saloon isn't the only S-Class to talk about this year - quite the contrary. Seen here in decidedly revealing camouflage, the new S-Class Coupe will be joining its four-door compadre in the not-too-distant future, as well.
When it launches, the S-Class Coupe will officially do away with the CL-Class nomenclature. This doesn't come as a huge shock. After all, when the new E-Class coupe and convertible were launched, it officially marked the end of the long-running CLK-Class designation.
Thanks to the interesting camouflage seen here, we have a very good glimpse at how the S-Class Coupe will look when all of the molding and swirly paper are peeled off. Rakish body lines pulled from the CLS-Class meet a much more dynamic front fascia. Out back, there are horizontal taillamps rather than the vertical units used on the current car, and the whole package seems very svelte. Our spy photographer even posits that this will be "the best-looking car from Mercedes-Benz in ages."

2013 Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG

Fri, 22 Feb 2013

Make way for the 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG, the most wonderfully preposterous car I have ever driven.
There is absolutely no reason why any two-seat roadster should be fitted with a twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter V12 developing 621 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque, but I sure am glad that Mercedes-Benz doesn't see things that way.
Drop into the leather-lined cockpit of this $213,145 provocateur, floor the accelerator pedal as I did over and over again, and 60 miles per hour falls in a traction-limited 3.9 seconds. Top speed has been electronically held to 186 mph (this apparently saves Gulfstream jet owners from embarrassment). Forget the SL550 and SL63 AMG, the valets will trip over themselves attending to the tycoon driving this thoroughbred - it's the real deal.

Jalopnik and Consumer Reports see who can pull off the best snow drift

Fri, Feb 20 2015

The weather throughout much of the United States is pretty awful at the moment with some combination of extremely low temperatures, inches of snow and maybe some ice underneath it all. The folks at Jalopnik and Consumer Reports are making the absolute best out of a difficult situation by heading to CR's snow-covered test track and attempting to make the longest drift in a quartet of very different performance vehicles. Jalopnik brought along a Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG S Wagon, a Subaru WRX STI, a BMW 228i and a 1973 Volkswagen Baja Bug (heck yeah!) for the challenge. Also, the track was perfect for this group, with a mix of packed snow in places and still a few inches of unsullied powder in spots too. Ostensibly the goal was to get the tail to step out through a particular corner, but in reality this was more about having hilarious fun in the snow with fast cars. The result just looks like the best time humanly possible in this weather.
