The Mercedes-Benz W116 is a series of flagship vehicles produced from September 1972 until 1979. The W116 automobiles were the first Mercedes-Benz models to be officially called S-Class. In a poll conducted by Britain's Classic & Sports Car magazine and printed in their April 1999 edition, the Mercedes-Benz 450 SEL ranked fourth on their list of the "world's greatest saloons."

This example is Silver with Navy Blue Leather interior, woodgrain dash accents, chrome trim, M117 engine (V8 with 4,520 cc displacement), power antenna, and lots of rare high-end options including integrated fog lights on the front bumper, original color-matched mercedes-benz logo hubcaps, alpine stereo w/ cassette deck, and a power sun roof with polarized windscreen. Very LOW miles for a 1976 - 90,436 miles. This car was babied by both owners, smoke-free and kept in heated garages. Car was purchased new by an executive at the Ohio Art Company (Makers of the Etch-a-Sketch toy). The current owner was a friend of the original owner and purchased the car in the late 70s. This car has tons of power, luxury and room! The 450SE sedans were widely considered one of the best cars for the money in their day, with a 190-hp fuel-injected, 4.5-liter SOHC V8, three-speed automatic transmission, independent suspension and disc brakes all round, and standard air conditioning. The SEL stretched the wheelbase four inches for back seat passengers.

Condition: As you can see from the photos, this car is in very good condition considering its age. The engine starts up on command and purrs! It still has loads of power and can make it up to 100mph without trying with an exceedingly quiet passenger compartment. The dash and rear deck are in excellent condition. The rubber is in good condition. Tires in good condition. It has had a recent oil/filters/fluids change/check within the last week. The local Mercedes dealership believes it is one of the best examples in the area. That said, it has indicators of use. There are a couple of small scuff marks on the rear of the front seats (see photos). The rear seat needs a replacement rubberized horsehair (original) cushion (or a cheaper foam one is also available after market). There are wear marks on the carpet in the driver's compartment. The rubber pad on the brake pedal needs to be replaced. The radio works but the cassette deck needs to be serviced (dealership said that it only requires minor repair). The windscreen was recently replaced and the company that did it damaged the chrome trim around the front window (see photos). We are including the original window trim pieces as well as the quote and parts list from the Mercedes dealership. Additionally with this sale are included two (2) extra chrome Mercedes Logo hubcaps and a chrome Mercedes hood ornament.

This car is perfect for the right owner. It is in near perfect shape but still needs a little love and a little work to get there. Wouldn't be selling it if we had the choice. This is your opportunity to own a true stylish classic. We have a very LOW Reserve on this car.

Terms: $1000.00 within 24 hrs of end of auction from the winning bidder and cash or Paypal within 7 days. Pick-up or transport plans must be made within 7 days of end of auction. Cost of taxes, transfer fees, and transportation is the responsibility of the winning bidder. Thank you for your interest.

McLaren, Red Bull and Ferrari call for unfreezing F1 engines

Mon, Dec 29 2014

Formula One is a hugely expensive sport. Not only do you have enormous salaries and logistical expenses, as you would in any other sport, but each team also spends huge sums developing their own chassis from the ground up – and so too do the participating automakers in developing the engines. One of the ways the series organizers mitigate those costs is by freezing development. So once the new crop of V6 turbo hybrid powertrains were developed, that was it. But now three of the of the sport's leading teams are calling on the FIA to unfreeze engine development. Their reason? Unfair advantage. There's little question that Mercedes did the best job of developing its "power unit" to meet the new regulations that took effect at the beginning of this past season. That's how the Mercedes team won all but three of the grands prix this season and finished with at least one car on the podium at every single race. It's also a big part of how the teams that bought their engines from Mercedes this season managed to consistently outperform the other non-works-supported teams. That clear advantage is why Red Bull, Ferrari and now McLaren are calling for engine development to be unfrozen. Their argument is that, under the current locked-down status quo, their engine suppliers (Renault, Ferrari and Honda, respectively) cannot possibly catch up. So unless the FIA and Formula One Management want the next few seasons to be the kind of absolute blow-outs that this past season was, these leading teams argue, the powers that be are going to have to make some changes. For its part, Mercedes naturally counters that unfreezing engine development would send costs spiraling out of control. But then of course it stands to lose the most by re-opening engine development. If those three teams, however, closely intertwined as they are with the three other engine suppliers participating in next year's championship, manage to solicit enough support from the other customer teams and bring the matter to a vote, Mercedes may very well find itself out-numbered. 2014 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series [w/video]

Wed, 13 Mar 2013

Now Even Sharper Than The Razor's Edge
There have been five Black Series models since the Mercedes-Benz SLK55 AMG Black Series introduced itself to European audiences in 2006. Following that, the Black Series club has hosted appearances by the 2008 CLK63 AMG Black Series, the 2009 SL65 AMG Black Series and last year's 2013 C63 AMG Black Series. The sixth member of the group is one we would have thought already was a Black Series car in its standard guise. Right out of the box, the SLS AMG is loud, frenetic, cozy, boisterous and frightfully easy to oversteer. How much more Black did it need to get?
Quite a bit so, apparently. The SLS AMG Black Series has lost weight, gained power and been refitted with upgrades and aero bits from front to rear. If you liked the way it looked before, you'll probably be an even bigger fan of this one. If you thought it looked ungainly, well, this one should stay even further away from pageants. Regardless of where you come down this is the best SLS AMG variant we've driven.

2014 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG rumbles on stage 4Matic style

Mon, 14 Jan 2013

Bruce Hornsby and his soothing piano skills helped introduce us to the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class, but the monstrous E63 AMG sedan needed no entrance music as it rumbled on stage. The 550-horsepower (and up) sedan sat proudly alongside the rest of the redesigned E-Class on stage at the Detroit Auto Show, but stood miles apart in intention and execution.
In addition to a choice of sedan and wagon body styles, the E63 AMG will also offer buyers the choice of the standard 550 hp or an upgraded 577-hp S-Model; regardless of output, all 2014 E63 AMG models will come standard with the 4Matic all-wheel-drive system.
We already saw the E63 AMG's aggressive styling last week, but now we have a full assortment of live images for you to enjoy as well as the Mercedes-Benz press release, which is also posted below.
