Description

I am a broker, I have been hired to sell this car. All the pictures, that you see in this auction, were taken by me, with an ordinary digital camera and then downloaded on this auction. They are the original photographs. They have not been touched or tampered with in any way. What you see are genuine pictures of a genuine car. I am very proud and honored to present this vehicle for auction on ebay. Not very often to cars come along, that have been lovingly taken care of, such as this vehicle. This auction I am presenting a 1980 Mercedes-Benz 450 SLC. Two door sedan, with rear wheel drive and very strong 190 horsepower, 4.5 liter V-8 engine. If you were to walk up to this car, you would think it brand new, it looks, feels and smells new. This car has been in Southern California since brand new. The first owner was an executive and used it for the first year, then his job supplied him with a car. The second owner, saw the car and fell in love with it. This car has always been garaged since brand new, the original "Walnut Brown" paint, is stunning, right down the incredible dual two tone pin stripes on the side and wheel wells as standard for the 450 SLC. The car has been kept completely original. The car has been meticulously maintained and repaired. All recalls by Mercedes-Benz have been completed to date. All services have been completed on the vehicle to date. It has a clean title. Clean car fax. The "Palomino" leather seats and surrounding upholstery are magnificent. All guages work as designed. The air conditioning is a cold as ice. The original radio works perfectly. This vehicle comes with owners manual, all service and maintenance records. Tires are new. Look at the pictures, look at the beautiful wheels, and chrome how they shine. You cannot tell the engine is running at stop signs. It has a smooth ride, and handles effortlessly. You cannot believe that this vehicle is over 30 years old, it is truly a treasure, especially with only 106,000 original miles. This owner made sure that this vehicle was always in perfect running order, and spared no expense. I would be hard pressed to find another in this condition. If you are looking, I strongly recommend that you take a second look at this beautiful car. Don't let this one get away.

The 450 SLC Story

They produced 31,000 450 SLC's during 1972 to 1980. The approximate MSRP ran about $41,592.00. This was one of the first sport sedans built for the public by Mercedes-Benz. This car came with a back seat. It's sister was the SL and that was just a two seater and the top came off. This car has a permanent or fixed top, with a sunroof, which added 1.2 inches to the vehicle height. They added 14.2 inches to the vehicle from the door to the wheel well and added a back seat. Mercedes-Benz at the time, was looking to come up with a vehicle that would compete with Citroen and Jaguar, and this was the car to do it. They added special louvers behind the back windows as a style feature and set it apart from the other models. There is no "B" pillar, so when all windows are down, it has a large openness and airy feeling. With the windows down and the sunroof open, I would say a nice drive up the coast in this car would be a beautiful drive. Autoweek at the time said of the 450 SLC, "The most superbly tuned motor carriage in the world, comfortable and agile."

Mercedes FWD platform to last until 2018, convertible and two-seater future uncertain

Mon, 22 Jul 2013

Mercedes-Benz seems to be expecting a lot of success from its front-wheel-drive CLA-Class. Automotive News is reporting that the sub-C-Class sedan could grow when its second generation arrives in 2018.
The current FWD platform for MB underpins the CLA, the B-Class, the GLA-Class, and the A-Class. The B-Class will arrive in North America as an EV for spring of 2014, while the production GLA crossover will arrive three to four months after that. The five-door A-Class won't be crossing The Pond. Sad faces all around.
According to AN, another model will be based on the front-drive architecture, but it won't be coming to the US market. Set to arrive next year, rumors are that it'll be a wagon version of the CLA, sort of like the ill-named five-door CLS Shooting Brake that is also a Europe-only item.

Daimler employees can set email to auto-delete during vacation

Mon, 18 Aug 2014

The Internet has shrunk the world in terms of the way people communicate by making it possible to send an email from Oslo and have it show up in Cleveland almost immediately. But that instant contact has wrecked the work/life balance for many. They get home from a long day at the office, yet they can never fully put their feet up and relax because another hour or more of checking and replying to emails awaits. However, German automotive giant Daimler is putting an end to that churn, at least while its employees are on vacation.
About 100,000 Daimler employees in Germany are eligible to opt-in to a new program called Mail on Holiday, according to The Atlantic. When the workers go on vacation, they can switch it on, and the service auto-deletes all of their incoming email. "Our employees should relax on holiday and not read work-related emails," said Wilfried Porth, board member for human resources, to The Financial Times as cited by The Atlantic.
Mail on Holiday puts a thumb on the scale of work/life balance in favor of a little more free time. The system means that Daimler employees shouldn't even be tempted to check their email on vacation because there's nothing there - and it also avoids them coming back from a relaxing holiday only to find a mailbox packed full of hundreds of unread messages. These days, people are absolutely obsessed with their work, often to the detriment of their health, not to mention spending time with their families and friends. On one hand, Mail on Holiday sounds like the sort of vacation breakthrough we'd need to truly unplug and unwind, but on the other hand, it makes our skin crawl just thinking about the lack of communication. F1 title fight gets closer | 2016 US Grand Prix recap

Mon, Oct 24 2016

We ran into an old friend at the US Grand Prix: an on-form Lewis Hamilton. Reliability and proper clutch actuation helped the Mercedes-AMG Petronas driver resurrect the kind of performance we haven't seen since July at the German Grand Prix. After demolishing the previous qualifying record around the Circuit of the Americas, he put the field in his mirrors as soon as the lights went out, was never bothered by anyone behind, and crossed the finish line 4.5 seconds ahead of teammate Nico Rosberg. The drive was exactly what Hamilton needed to keep his molecule-thin Championship hopes alive. Rosberg, however, did exactly what he needed to do as well by finishing second. The German had a sketchier path to the checkered flag than Hamilton, getting pushed back to the third at the start by Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo. Worse, Ricciardo appeared to have the pace to keep Hamilton honest ahead and hold Rosberg behind. Red Bull and Mercedes matched one another's pit stops, and it was clear the German would need more help to pass the Aussie. Rosberg didn't have to make his own luck, Ricciardo's teammate Max Verstappen made the luck for him. Ricciardo pitted on Lap 26, ceding second position on track to Rosberg. On Lap 30, Verstappen's gearbox failed while headed down the back straight. The Dutch teenager said the team told him to try to get the car back to the pits, so he dawdled through a few corners before following more team orders to pull over and park. Verstappen's parking spot and bad gearbox meant marshals couldn't push the car off the track, they needed to use a crane. That brought out a Virtual Safety Car, slowing the whole race down and allowing Rosberg to run a longer stint while losing less time on old tires. When the German came in for new tires on Lap 31 he emerged ahead of Ricciardo, and they ran that way to the end of the race, much to Ricciardo's disappointment. Sebastian Vettel claimed fourth for Ferrari, a placing perhaps due only to Verstappen and Kimi Raikkonen retiring from the race. An otherwise anonymous weekend for the scuderia called attention to itself on race day when Raikkonen had to call it a day after a botched pit stop, and Vettel couldn't make any impression on the teams ahead. Fernando Alonso rode home to a brilliant fifth for McLaren. During the first stint while rummaging around outside the top ten, the Spaniard complained about his lack of pace. By Lap 15 Alonso was tenth, on Lap 34 he was eighth.
