This is a very nice example of Fine German Engineering. I purchased this Benz from a friend of a friend, it had been in his family for around 20 years. As his parents aged, it just sat in the garage for the last several years. Since I have owned this vehicle, I replaced the battery, drained the fuel and installed a new fuel pump and filter. She fired right up, I only took her around my subdivision but everything seems to be in order, she runs nice and quiet. Her transmission shifted like butter. Even at 33 years old, I can see why this car cost so much new and was voted one of the worlds best Saloons!
She was resprayed at some point, probably 15 years ago and she does have some chips in her paint. The interior is in very nice condition, the seats were covered with sheepskin and very well preserved showing only very minor wear on the driver seat. There are a few small cracks in the dash. The back seat seems to be suffering from the same affliction that most of these 116's suffer. I have been poking around high and low and did not see any rust at all on this car, no bubbling, no nothing. This is a running car, but I did not go through each of the systems thoroughly, I would recommend it should be done by the new owner. Gullwing America turns SLS AMG Roadster into stunning 1955 300 SC redux
Thu, 14 Feb 2013Gullwing America specializes in what it calls "retro styling meets modern technology." It's next demonstration of that is the convertible above, a stylized recreation of the 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SC (inset) supported by the structure of a 2012 SLS AMG Roadster. Commissioned by a client in Eastern Europe, the resulting car is called the 300 SLC.
The hand-formed aluminum bodywork required just a few changes to the SLS AMG Roadster, namely reworking the headlights into a stacked arrangement of LEDs and relocating the pop-up spoiler behind the cabin. The retro grille and long, straight hood evoke the past, the custom exhaust, height-adjustable suspension, 21-inch wheels up front and 22-inch wheels in back, however, stray a little further from history. The 300 SLC will come with a hardtop and be one-of-a-kind, making it even rarer than its inspiration, of which 92 were made.

Mercedes goes boating again with G63 AMG-inspired Cigarette
Wed, 06 Feb 2013Cigarette Racing has another Mercedes-Benz AMG-themed boat headed out to sea. After The SLS AMG-inspired 46-foot Rough Rider in 2010 and the C63 AMG Black Series-inspired 50-foot Marauder in 2012, this year's Miami Boat Show will introduce the 42-foot Huntress, theme provided by the G63 AMG.
The latest Cigarette homage is less overly racy than the ones before, befitting a watercraft modeled off a performance SUV, but don't let the looks fool: there are five Mercury Racing Verado 350SCi outboard engines, each one of them packing a supercharged inline six-cylinder with, natch, 350 horsepower. Those 1,750 horses will be good for 78 miles per hour when you've got some saltwater underneath you.
If you're in South Florida this week, Booth B-23 at the Miami Convention Center could be your best place to see it. Otherwise, like the 536-hp G63 AMG, it could be hard to catch. There's a press release with more information below.
