1973 Mercedes-benz 450se Well Maintained, Super Clean, Baby Blue! on 2040-cars
Beckley, West Virginia, United States
1973 Baby Blue Mercedes 450 SE I recently bid on 2 Mercedes... and won them both(!). I decided to keep and resore the 1970 280 and sell this beautiful 1973 450 se. Here's the scoop:
The interior is blue and both the front and back seats are 100%, with no rips/tears/cracks/ or signs of wear-- amazing for a 40 year-old car!!! The dash has cracks (which could be covered with an aftermarket overlay-- seen here on eBay for around $100) and there is a small crack on the top of each door panel-- the rest of the door panel is pristine. The engine starts immediately and runs smoothly. There is an occasional leak around the first injector. NOTE: Transmission shifts but sometimes holds or slips. My mechanic says from sitting and will respond to Lucas. I posted to the Mercedes Benz forum and received the same opinion-- minus the Lucas(!)-- HOWEVER, the transmission may need to be rebuilt or replaced. For a full-price offer, I will include a replacement (and, for $500 above the full price, I will be happy to replace the transmission with one from the same year). The vacuum locks need repair. I am not a mechanic but have described the car as accurately as I can. That said, it is a 40 year-old Classic and is sold as-is. It is important to note that the Hagerty guide values this year and model at $11,000. One in absolutely immaculate condition recently sold here for $13,000, and others in good condition have averaged around $7500. As you can see, mine is priced to sell! I am happy to answer any questions that you might have, so don't hesitate to ask. Thanks for looking! p.s The car is advertised locally 'for trade' and I will pull the listing if I'm offered something so cool I can't breath without it....!!!

Mon, 19 Aug 2013LA To The Grand Canyon In The Mercedes-Benz Of RVs
Piloting an 8,500-pound motorized house down the highway is far from my idea of fun, yet inexplicably, I'm enjoying myself. My grin has nothing to do with my camper's handling, as this heavily accoutered Mercedes-Benz Sprinter drives like a 25-foot long breadbox. My smile has nothing to do with on-road stability, as the ten-foot-tall, slab-sided vehicle reacts to wind gusts like the vertical stabilizer on a Boeing jet. My delight has nothing to do with its throttle or braking response, either, as both are as numb as your forehead after the eighth beer.
This monstrosity makes me happy for one reason - my passengers are undeniably having a good time.
Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 teases gullwing doors in video
Tue, Aug 16 2016Because these are the times we live in, automakers tease their biggest and best debuts mercilessly before finally dropping the curtain. That's why we're writing about the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Concept again. Here's a new video, posted on Mercedes' Instagram page, showing even more of the hulking two-door coupe. For one, it looks like Mercedes is revisiting gullwing doors. There's a brief snippet of the doors in the open position with a red light – possibly a brake light – bisecting the roof. The video also gives us a couple of good looks at the taillights, which are super-model skinny, just like the lamps up front. Look close at the rear three-quarter cut, and you'll spot a strong chrome strip that accentuates and breaks up those beefy rear haunches. It's hard to tell where they fit in with the chrome strips on the front fenders and hood, so we'll probably need to wait until the big debut to see how it all works out. As we've said twice already, the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 debuts on August 18. Stay tuned. This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. McLaren, Red Bull and Ferrari call for unfreezing F1 engines
Mon, Dec 29 2014Formula One is a hugely expensive sport. Not only do you have enormous salaries and logistical expenses, as you would in any other sport, but each team also spends huge sums developing their own chassis from the ground up – and so too do the participating automakers in developing the engines. One of the ways the series organizers mitigate those costs is by freezing development. So once the new crop of V6 turbo hybrid powertrains were developed, that was it. But now three of the of the sport's leading teams are calling on the FIA to unfreeze engine development. Their reason? Unfair advantage. There's little question that Mercedes did the best job of developing its "power unit" to meet the new regulations that took effect at the beginning of this past season. That's how the Mercedes team won all but three of the grands prix this season and finished with at least one car on the podium at every single race. It's also a big part of how the teams that bought their engines from Mercedes this season managed to consistently outperform the other non-works-supported teams. That clear advantage is why Red Bull, Ferrari and now McLaren are calling for engine development to be unfrozen. Their argument is that, under the current locked-down status quo, their engine suppliers (Renault, Ferrari and Honda, respectively) cannot possibly catch up. So unless the FIA and Formula One Management want the next few seasons to be the kind of absolute blow-outs that this past season was, these leading teams argue, the powers that be are going to have to make some changes. For its part, Mercedes naturally counters that unfreezing engine development would send costs spiraling out of control. But then of course it stands to lose the most by re-opening engine development. If those three teams, however, closely intertwined as they are with the three other engine suppliers participating in next year's championship, manage to solicit enough support from the other customer teams and bring the matter to a vote, Mercedes may very well find itself out-numbered.
