We are selling a 1973 Mercedes 450SL Roadster with 102,500 original miles. It has a 5.4 L double overhead cam aluminum motor which runs strong. I have been in the process od trying to restore this hard to find "classic" Mercedes which has the European bumpers and no smog control system. I have had new floor pans and firewalls welded in to eleminate some rust. On top of this we added the :hush" mat which is insulation topped with aluminum for quiteness and heat control. The car was gone over by certified mercedes mechanic's and the following was installed: Complete new exaust system, fule pump and hoses, two drive differentials, rear brake calipers and break lines, all fluids changed, tune up and fule injecters inspected, new carpet thruout as well as trunk carpet kit. New seat form, cobers, backs, door panels and dash. The car does smoke a little on startup and probably needs a valve job. Air condition needs one hose replaced for good a/c. I have also put on four brand new tires as well as new headrests. Windshield has no chips or cracks and left mirrow glass needs replacing. Not the mirrow total just the reflectice mirrow glass piece. I am now retired and donot have the money to finish the restoration. The car also comes with a car cover and a new hoist kit for the hard top. It has a few rust spots on the body which can be restored at the body shop before painting.

I paid $5k for the car and I have put another $10k into this car. It is a great deal for someone wanting to take advantage of having most of the restoration done at no cost to them. I will have to sell the car with a very low reserve as I can't keep the car. Car is not perfect as to be expected with an original 35 year old vehicle and is being sold as is with a $1000 deposit paid within 24 hours of sale and the buyer will be responsible for shipping arrangements.

It is the responsibility of the buyer to have thoroughly inspected the vehicle and to have satisfied themselves as to the condition and value and to bid based upon that judgment solely.

Smart will go electric-only in United States and Canada

Tue, Feb 14 2017

By 2018, the Smart car brand will be only known as an electric vehicle manufacturer in the US. According to Automotive News, sales of gasoline-powered Smart cars will cease later this year, and Daimler will develop the product portfolio into a solely electrified one. This coincides with the upcoming launch of the new generation Smart ForTwo electric drive models this summer. Automotive News claims to have obtained a letter from Mercedes-Benz USA CEO Dietmar Exler sent to US dealers. In it, he underlines the decision to go electric-only, saying "developments within the micro-car segment present some challenges for the current Smart product portfolio," and that the change will only affect North American sales. Production of US-destined gasoline-powered Smarts will cease in April, and sales will continue until stock runs out. The current generation has been on sale from 2015, and it hasn't reached the 2014 sales peak of 10.453 units of the previous generation; last year, there were little more than 6.200 Smarts sold in the States. The first electric drive Smarts were unveiled a decade ago, but they became available in the USA five years later, initially via various trial programs, including Car2Go fleets. Related Video:

2016 Mercedes-Maybach S600 Review [w/video]

Fri, Dec 11 2015

"Hindsight is 20/20" is a handy yet disingenuous cliche. The flaw is that hindsight is only instructive up to the moment you would have made a different, perhaps better, decision. At the moment of that deviation the past goes in another direction, one that you can't peer back into because you didn't experience it. So when we say we wish Karl Benz's eponymous firm had produced the Mercedes-Maybach S600 in 2002 instead of the gilded blunder of the separate Maybach brand and its 57 and 62 sedans, we just can't know if the formula would have worked 13 years ago. But we do know the formula adds up superbly right now. A little history: Wilhelm Maybach helped Gottlieb Daimler build a high-speed, four-stroke internal combustion engine in 1885. Eventually Maybach went to work for Daimler's new car company and designed the first Mercedes, the 1901 35-hp model considered the world's first modern car. Maybach left the company after Daimler's death, started a company building zeppelins, then joined his son to start the Maybach car company. Together they developed super luxury cars including the DS8 Zeppelin models that competed with Rolls-Royce. A reviewer in 1933 wrote, "The Maybach Zeppelin models rank among the few cars in the international top class. They are highly luxurious, extremely lavish in their engineering and attainable only for a chosen few." It's a whopping 28 inches shorter than the departed Maybach 62, but 8.2 inches longer than a standard S-Class. As is this Maybach S600. It's a whopping 28 inches shorter than the departed Maybach 62, but since it's 8.2 inches longer than a standard S-Class, there's a very different driving experience. Two-thirds of a foot isn't much, but the Maybach is 639 pounds heavier than an S550, or 231 pounds heavier than a standard S600. From the driver's seat we could feel every additional pound and inch over those other models. It is as if Mercedes threw out the aluminum and steel and chiseled this sedan from basalt. We've driven scanty few cars where we've been genuinely glad for blind-spot detection and 360-degree cameras – this is one of them. The Maybach's wheelbase is four inches longer than that of a Bentley Mulsanne, even though the overall car is almost five inches shorter than the Big B. That long wheelbase translates into tranquil steering response – the S550, S600, and Maybach S600 all have the same 2.3 turns-to-lock, but this sedan feels like it takes more effort. It even looks heavy.

Mercedes C111 concept in commercial spoof A Fistful of Wolves

Fri, Jan 16 2015

A Fistful of Wolves is a spoof of fashion advertising, commissioned by Mercedes-Benz to spread a cheeky word about Berlin Fashion Week. Yet, in the lampooning of sartorial gobbledygook, plenty of automotive advertising gets doused with cold water, too - like the ads that subscribe to the importance of being earnest (looking at you Matthew McConaughey and Kate Walsh), or the ones that try to convey just how unimaginably cool you'll be once you've jumped into the three-year-lease hole (looking at you, um... Mercedes-Benz and every other German luxury brand). We appreciate a brand that can make fun of itself, though. Led by Australian Justin O'Shea driving the Mercedes C111 through Berlin, it's beautiful satire as O'Shea tries to be fashion-forward while his friends go on about their daily lives, wondering why he never seems to be listening until he's offered cake, or why he's trying to walk in slow motion. Check it out in the video above. News Source: Mercedes-Benz via YouTube, Car and Driver Celebrities Humor Marketing/Advertising Mercedes-Benz Coupe Concept Cars Videos spoof
