Stunning California 300cd Diesel Coupe ~ Chrome Wire Wheels, Low Mile, The Best! on 2040-cars
Canoga Park, California, United States
This is the final and best year the classic Mercedes W123 chassis 300CD Turbo Diesel Coupe? was made. It incorporates all the improvements made over the nine-year model run, including the larger turbo which gives the car noticeably more power than the earlier models. If you're looking for a superb example of this rare and desirable motorcar, this is your car.
A California car from new, it was sold on Oct. 25, 1985 by Slavich Brothers, Inc. Mercedes-Benz in Fresno, Calif. to a Mr. R. Brookshier. Having lived its entire life in the Golden State, it is rust-free, and has only covered 160,800 miles from new, which is on the low side of mileage for these cars. It has been serviced regularly, and runs and drives better than any other Mercedes diesel I've driven (and I'd had several). It, in fact, feels fresh and new, with power and acceleration that will surprise most diesel owners. It's smooth, quiet and rattle-free....a delight to drive! My daughter has owned this car for five years and needed more carrying capacity for her new business, and so we found her a Mercedes diesel wagon—same year as this car. She wanted "her" beloved car but needed more room. So now the Coup? goes to a lucky new owner. I've ensured that the car was maintained properly since my little girl was depending upon it. Regular oil and filter changes, repairs of any little thing that cropped up, etc. We just spent a lot of money on the car prior to her finding her wagon, and this includes:
The previous owner had just had the whole front end suspension rebuilt, including new upper and lower control arm bushings, new ball joints, spindles, torsion bar mounts, transmission mounts and new Bilstein shocks installed too, before we got it. That's only about 15M miles ago, so it rides, drives and steers like a new car. None of that loose steering or wandering you find in so many older Mercedes! It drives like a new car! The car starts immediately, cold or hot, runs quietly and smoothly (for a diesel) and pulls away with authority. It goes down the highway like it's on rails, straight and true. Smooth, swift and rattle-free. Transmission shifts smoothly, no slippage. There are no engine or transmission leaks. The air conditioning is ice cold. Central locking, electric antenna and all gauges work properly. The car still sports its original Becker electronic AM/FM/Cassette which sounds great. All electric windows work except the left rear quarter window doesn't go down (a recent thing, probably the motor since neither switch operates it), and the cruise control works intermittently (possibly a bad connection). The body is rust-free and accident-free. It was still in its original Anthracite paint when my daughter acquired it. The California sun sunburned the clearcoat however, and it deserved a restoration. Rather than spotting new paint here and there, I had it stripped to bare metal, trim removed, and resprayed in its original Mercedes 172G Anthracite, a high-quality clear-over-base. It was blocked, color-sanded, buffed, and it now looks showroom-fresh, gleaming like glass. This was not a cheap paint job—it ran $3,500. The body is perfect, without a chip or scratch. I also has the body mouldings replaced where they were dinged, as well as a new front grille and Bosch headlight doors. It’s simply stunning. The trunk is almost spotless, with its original spare wheel, jack and original complete Mercedes tool roll stowed beneath the floor. The interior is amazing! A very rare Henna Red (actually a shade or two darker than it appears in these photos), the interior is almost like new. The original upholstery is soft, supple, with no rips, holes, scuffs, etc. and the padding is still nice and firm. The door panels are beautiful, although there are a couple tiny screw holes on the driver’s side where someone had fitted a cup-holder, I imagine. Easily filled and touched-up if you wished. The seat-back cargo nets need replacing and the lid for the first-aid kit is missing, an easy part to source. The rear seats appear never sat on. The carpets were covered with factory mats and look like new. The headliner is clean and rip-free. Even the original dash is absolutely crack-free and beautiful! Obviously this car was always garaged prior to our ownership, and then again when my daughter owned it. The Anthracite Gray exterior and Henna interior is a striking color combination; very handsome and classic. I replaced the original “bundt” alloy wheels with a very rare and gorgeous set of genuine chrome wire wheels. These are top quality items made in Great Britain, not cheap copies from China. One of the Mercedes logo center caps is cracked. New tires were fitted along with new tubes and a set of new chrome wheel bolts. These wheels are dazzling and set the car apart from any other 300CD you’ll see. (Note: If the winning bidder is a purist and prefers the original Mercedes alloy wheels, I will swap them back in place of the wire wheels. The original wheels have almost-new tires mounted. See photo of car with Original Wheels. Your choice.). The entire history of the car is documented from new. I have the original Owner’s Manual, Maintenance Booklet, Parts Manual, factory build order, stamped metal warranty plates and the original clear vinyl pouch. I also have a huge folder of receipts through the years. The car is still titled in my daughter’s name and I have the title in hand. The personalized plates do not go with the car of course. I’ve tried to describe the car to the best of my knowledge, the good along with the few flaws. Of course, being an older car, there will be repairs and maintenance in the future, and the vehicle is sold as-is without warranty expressed or implied. This car turns heads and commands envy and respect from all who see it. It’s ready to drive anywhere! Feel free to email me with any questions not covered in this description. Please do not ask me my reserve. Want to know it? Just bid! If you’re local to the San Fernando Valley part of Los Angeles County, you’re welcome to come see the car and bring your mechanic with you to check it out. He’ll probably buy it! LOL I will accept the deposit via PayPal but the balance must be by wire transfer, cashier’s check or cash in person, not PayPal. The car can be picked up once funds have cleared both our banks and are in my account. Good luck bidding!

2014 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Edition 507 still lights our fire
Wed, 06 Mar 2013The current Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG may be in the autumn of its years, but it's still one of our very favorite sport sedans. Ever. Yes, its paddle-shift transmission may not always follow orders, but with stupendous levels of thrust from its charismatic naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8, ebullient rear-wheel-drive dynamics and that noise, we frankly don't care that it's getting on a bit.
As a sendoff of sorts for the current generation, Mercedes-Benz has just introduced a new Edition 507 model at the Geneva Motor Show, with 507 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque - an increase of 56 horses over the standard car. Mercedes credits the substitution of low-mass internals from the SLS AMG gullwing for the power bump, a tactic shared with the AMG Development Package upgrade that has been subsumed by this Edition 507. 0-60 is quoted at 4.1 seconds and top speed at 174 mph.
The Edition 507 borrows its aluminum hood from the C63 AMG Black Series Coupe, along with spidery new 19-inch wheels in either titanium gray finish or matte black with shiny rim flanges. As seen on our gallery car above, a sports striping package is also featured, as are glossy black grille, daytime running lamps, spoiler and mirror caps.
Aston Martin and Daimler continue talks on SUV project, CEO required
Tue, 01 Apr 2014The Aston Martin Lagonda SUV concept revealed at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show didn't earn the plaudits the company is used to when it reveals new models, and it has lived an uncertain life ever since. Thought to have been scrapped along with the entire revival of the Lagonda brand, then thought to have been resurrected due to Chinese, Middle Eastern and Russian demand, another year passed before we heard more definitive talk about an Aston Martin expansion when AutoCar reported that the Lagonda could be built on one of Mercedes-Benz's AMG SUV platforms.
A report in Automotive News Europe indicates plans have gotten serious, its unnamed sources saying that the English carmaker is talking to Daimler "to extend their cooperation to building an SUV." Neither Daimler, Aston Martin nor Investindustrial, the managing partner among Aston Martin's ownership consortium, would comment. But with Investindustrial having pledged to expand the range, competitors like Bentley, Maserati and Lamborghini getting into the SUV racket and clear demand from current and future customers, it's easy to believe Aston Martin is working hard to put the pieces together.
One further potential bump on the road to an Aston SUV is the company's search for a new CEO. Ulrich Bez relinquished to top spot at the company at the end of 2013, and Aston reportedly will not finalize its model strategy without a new CEO in place.
Mercedes Sprinter updated to take on Ford Transit, Ram ProMaster
Mon, 29 Apr 2013By the end of this year, the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter will be the second-oldest nameplate in its segment here in the States, but with hot new competition waiting in the wings, Mercedes-Benz is giving its hauler a freshened look and more equipment to stave off rivals. The Sprinter was a pioneer in bringing Euro-style delivery vans to North America, and it's inspired others to transplant their Continental offerings, with the all-new Ford Transit and Ram Promaster models launching shortly. It will also continue to do battle with lower-cost traditional competitors like the Chevrolet Express and Ford E-Series.
The big Sprinter will thus get a new look to go with more safety features and available technology. While the information released here technically covers the Euro-spec 2013 Sprinter (which goes on sale in September), the US market is expected to get the new Sprinter for the 2014 model year with many of the same features. Some of this new technology includes a Crosswind Assist feature as standard equipment and the availability of Collision Prevention Assist and Blind Spot Assist as optional safety measures - Mercedes-Benz says that all three are firsts for any van in the world. Also added to the updated Sprinter is a new 1.8-liter supercharged gasoline (or CNG) engine producing 156 horsepower, which will complement the line of diesel engines that carry over and help make the Sprinter the first cargo van to meet the upcoming Euro VI emissions standards. Additionally, a lower ride height is said to improve fuel economy and should improve handling while aiding ingress and egress for both people and cargo.
In terms of styling, the Sprinter's new face also looks more like the current line of Mercedes-Benz passenger cars. This includes a more upright grille along with changes to the hood, headlights and bumper that lend it a closer kinship to models like the CLS-Class and the updated E-Class. The Sprinter will offer both halogen and HID headlights, while the latter will get LED running lamps and offer Highbeam Assist. The images shown here only reveal the exterior from front angles, but it looks like few, if any, changes have been made to the rear of the van. Interior upgrades include a thicker steering wheel, a new shift lever and the latest in audio, navigation and entertainment systems. Scroll down for the official press release for the new Mercedes-Benz Sprinter.
