Up for sale is a timeless classic diesel station wagon! My brother bought this car at the end of the summer from an estate auction in Texas via Ebay as a surprise for his wife . The vehicle was driven back here to Denver from Texas without a hitch. His wife loved the looks of the car and the idea of owning one, but going from a late-model Volvo V70R to a 30 year old diesel wagon is a drastic change to say the least. My brother had to move to Oregon for work and he left the old Mercedes behind asking me to sell it for him. I am listing this thing at NO RESERVE so the high bidder will own this bullet-proof wagon!

When the weather was warm the Mercedes would start up after a few cranks without a hitch. Now that it has sat for awhile and the weather is cold, it cranks for a longer time and needs a jump most of the time as well. It does ALWAYS start eventually. The turbo spools up well and it has good acceleration for an old turbo diesel Benz. It also just passed Colorado emissions recently as well. Like any old German car, the motor is wet with oil seepages. The transmission shifts through all gears including reverse as it seemingly should. The brakes work strongly on the first application after driving for a time, but if you brake again after that the power function seems weak. The e-brake does not hold at all. The tires are old and could use replacement/balancing. I also heard an occasional squeak from the right front while driving. It may need a strut? I am not sure.

The odometer was not rolling any miles when I drove the car today so just assume it does not work. The person in Texas who sold it claimed that the AC worked, but it has been too cold for me to verify that and my brother didn't know. The climate control with the fan etc. does work as far as I can tell. The drivers side front window goes up and down fine, but the passenger front window only goes down 1/3 of the way and stops. The two rear windows work intermittently. The faceplate for the aftermarket CD player is missing. The horn on the steering wheel does not work thus the reason for the black horn button seen on the left drivers kick panel in the photos which does work.

The exterior paint is weathered from the Texas sun. It has a couple of surface rust spots as seen in the photos as well as a dent on the right front fender. One of the rear back up lenses is broken. Please see the pictures for exterior condition. The windshield does have a small star on the far passenger side halfway up. As far as the interior, the dash has a molded cover on it so I am not sure about the condition of it. There are cracks in the drivers seat as seen in the photos. The front door panel map pockets have loose clips on the front portion. The passenger front and rear seats are in good shape as well as the carpets/floor mats. It also has two keys and owners manuals.

I have a clear title in my possession so I am not sure why it is showing salvage on autocheck? It does not show any accidents on autocheck so I am not sure how the title could be salvage. I just want to be up front that I do have a clear title in hand, but let you know that the autocheck record does say salvage.

I have described this vehicle to the best of my ability and knowledge. It is being sold as is with no warranty or guarantee of any kind expressed or implied. Feel free to contact me to see the car in person or set up an inspection from a third party. I will assist in any way possible. This vehicle is not for someone who is not OK with quirks of old German cars. You can come pick up the vehicle in person, or set up shipping. All pick up/transportation arrangements must be made by the buyer. I will get the vehicle started for the buy or transporter when it is being picked up. If you need me to pick you up from Denver International Airport, I am more than happy to do so. A non-refundable $250 deposit is due with 48 hours of the auction end. Do not bid unless you intend to buy. The full balance is due, and vehicle must be picked up within 7 days of the auction end. The high bidder will own this vehicle. I have a clear signed off title in my hand ready to go. Feel free to contact me with any questions and I will answer them to the best of my ability. Thanks for looking!

2015 Bahrain F1 Grand Prix puts a dark horse in the desert [spoilers]

Mon, Apr 20 2015

Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen had said after Malaysia that Ferrari can challenge Mercedes-AMG Petronas purely on pace, beyond the scope of tire wear, in the dry. We didn't see that in China, where Lewis Hamilton easily kept everyone behind and Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel only got close to Mercedes' Nico Rosberg when Rosberg slowed down to conserve his tires. But the Iceman's words seemed prescient during qualifying for the Bahrain Formula One Grand Prix. At the front, nothing has changed so far this year: four races, four pole positions for Lewis Hamilton. Instead of teammate Rosberg next to him, though, he'll look over to see the scarlet Ferrari of Vettel, who took advantage of Rosberg's cautiousness to snatch second place on the grid. In Q2, Rosberg tried to conserve the tires he'd start the race on and said he couldn't get into a groove in Q3, putting in a time 0.147 seconds slower than Vettel. The second Silver Arrows will share his row with the second Ferrari, Raikkonen – yet again – saying he might have left some time on the table during his hot lap but getting around just one tenth off Rosberg's time. Williams is established as the best of the rest behind two teams this year instead of just one last year, Valtteri Bottas claiming fifth ahead of Felipe Massa. Daniel Ricciardo of Infiniti Red Bull Racing said he wants to fight with the Williams', he'll be helped with a good start off the line for the first time this year. Nico Hulkenberg got Force India into Q3 for the first time since the Italian Grand Prix last year and into eighth on the grid, ahead of Carlos Sainz in the Toro Rosso and Romain Grosjean putting in another excellent day's work for Lotus. Come race time, it turned into Mercedes power against Ferrari strategy. When Sky F1 commentator Martin Brundle talks about the Mercedes-AMG Petronas team he often mentions how their engine advantage leads to other advantages throughout the car. Not having to use aerodynamic changes to make up for power unit deficiencies, for instance, means they can run the aero setup they want, which optimizes speed and tire wear throughout a lap. It equates to advantage on top of advantage on top of advantage. That's where Lewis Hamilton is right now, so fundamentally dialed in to his car and his racing that he run the races he wants to run. From the front spot, the Brit ripped off another perfect start and led the field into Turn 1, relinquishing the lead only during pit stops.

Daimler boss says fuel cell vehicles will be disappointing for at least 10 years

Tue, Jan 21 2014

Daimler AG CEO Dieter Zetsche is pretty confident about the imminence of self-driving cars. Hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles? Not so much. He didn't even get into the possibility of self-driving fuel-cell vehicles, but we're okay taking future technologies one at a time. Zetsche, in an interview from the Detroit Auto Show last week, said the automotive industry is about a decade away from avoiding disappointing experiences with production fuel-cell vehicles, In Auto News says. Zetsche was quick to note that the Mercedes-Benz parent entered into a fuel-cell partnership with Ford and Nissan early last year in an effort to split costs and speed things along, with the expectation that the group would develop something together by 2017, but even that won't be able to smooth things out fully. Toyota and Hyundai have said they'd have their own production vehicles on the road sooner than that. Multi-corporation-partnerships notwithstanding, Zetsche bemoaned the high costs, lack of vehicle volume and minimal refueling infrastructure as the proverbial roadblocks to more rapid development and adoption of fuel-cell vehicles. As it is, the US has just 10 publicly accessible hydrogen refueling stations, eight of which are in Southern California, according to the US Department of Energy. As for autonomous automobiles, Zetsche was more upbeat. Daimler already has what it calls the "Distronic" cruise control system that includes an automatic braking feature and has successfully driven a car 60 miles with "with relatively modest adjustments to the existing onboard technology." Mercedes-Maybach GLS could become the most expensive car made in America

Mon, Mar 18 2019

Mercedes-Benz International, the German automaker's manufacturing facility near Vance and Tuscaloosa, Ala., already builds the GLS SUV. Autonews reports that the coming ultra-luxe version of the large crossover, the Mercedes-Maybach GLS, will be built in Alabama as well for global markets. The most recent timelines mark the reveal in production or near-production form in China, with sales to commence next year. The next-gen series-production GLS goes on sale later this year. The gilded sub-brand previewed a wild concept last year in China called the Vision Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury, which blended the tall profile of an SUV with the truck of a sedan on donk wheels. Based on spy shots, none of that fancy will make it to production. Both the Maybach and AMG versions of the GLS ride on fat rubber but look thoroughly traditional. The treasure will be inside. Autonews said China accounts for roughly 75 percent of Maybach S-Class sedan sales. That suggests the GLS in baroque trim will emphasize chauffeured luxury touches like rear captain's chairs and lots of rear legroom. Pricing estimates figure $200,000 to get in the door. That would put the SUV right in line with the Lamborghini Urus and a couple stacks of Benjamins above the Bentley Bentayga, with much the same likely audience. One analyst said, "The ultra-high-net-worth kids want something different, and these ultraluxury SUVs certainly fit that," while another opined on its "appeal to the Kardashians and hip-hoppers, if they want something slightly different to the G-Wagen." A $200K MSRP would also comfortably make the Maybach GLS the most expensive new car built in America, taking the title from the Acura NSX. With a great price comes great power, said to be a twin-turbo V8 with more than 560 horsepower. The coming GLS 450 will make do with somewhere around 360 hp. The Alabama plant, which also builds the GLE, GLE Coupe, and C-Class, is also undergoing a $1 billion upgrade to more than double the size of the facility, making lines for battery production and EQ-series vehicle assembly,
