Other issues include a leak in the head gasket, driver side door does not open from the outside but does from the inside, battery will need to be jumped/ replaced. CAR WILL NEED TO BE TOWED UPON PURCHASE. CAN NOT BE DRIVEN DUE TO GASOLINE LEAK."

Up for purchase is a Mercedes 300TE 4-matic wagon.  The car is currently undrivable due to a gas line leak near the fuel tank.  There are several items wrong with this car, but I also believe that there are some miles left in this old man given a little bit of love.  This car would make either a great project car for a mechanic or a great car for parts.  I would love to see him be a drivable beauty again!

A Brief History:
I purchased the car a couple of years ago from a woman that said this was her daily driver.  There were several undisclosed issues with the car that I later discovered.  I've made several repairs myself over the course of driving the car as my daily driver for about a year and a half.  After the gas line leak, I decided to go with a different vehicle.  The car has sat for the last 7 months so the battery died, but it did start after we jumped it this last week.  Since my purchase, I have replaced the tires, replaced the gas tank, and replaced the power steering pump.  I have my repair documents and those of the previous owner available upon purchase.

The Good & The Bad:
Oil leak in the head gasket-  I put a head gasket leak additive in the engine and it drove without issue until I stopped driving it due to the gas line leak, so over a year.
AC does not blow cold air but the heater does work.
Steering on the car is sometimes "funny".  I've had the tires replaced and rotated and there seems to be a bit too much play in the steering wheel since then.
Overall body condition of the car is fair.  There is a dent in the passenger side back door that is shown in the pictures.  I purchased the car with this dent.
Once again, the fuel line leaks near the gas tank.  So when you start the car, gasoline is spewing from near the gas tank.
The driver side door handle does not work from the outside but it does from the inside.
Cosmetically, the hinge on the passenger visor broke.   There is cracking on the console and normal wear and tear to the buttons throughout the vehicle.
There is a tear on the driver side seat, as seen in the photos.
The fabric covering around the door has come unglued on the passenger side.
The transmission actually works well!  Yay!
The car is solid and a tank on the road.  You will certainly feel safe driving this wagon.
The paint is in good condition with minor nicks from age.
Did I mention the heat works?
It has a sunroof and it works!!
Carpeting is in good condition & the First Aid Kit is complete and original.
It has a new gas tank, front brake pads, & power steering pump.

This car is available for pick up only.  Buyer to arrange pick up and transport.  Again, the car will need to be towed due to the fuel line leak.  Upon purchase, the car can be started to show that it runs.  The car is sold "AS IS" and if you have any questions before purchasing, please email.  I'm happy to share as much as I know about the car and I want to be honest about it's current condition.  Payment can be made through PayPal or upon pick up.  If upon pick up, I can accept cash or certified check.

If you would like additional photos, please email me and I will send the link.
Thanks!!

Online Find of the Day: Lexus-engined Mercedes pickup is a vintage hybrid

Tue, 16 Sep 2014

You have to love someone who gets incredibly committed to a very weird idea. What you see for sale here is a right-hand drive 1971 Mercedes-Benz 220D in South Africa, but this old Mercedes is now converted into a pickup, complete with bed cover, and there's big secret under the hood, too.
The pickup conversion appears well done based on seller Sedgefield Classic Cars' photos. Even the tonneau cover fits well. You could almost believe that this Mercedes lived its life as a Chevrolet El Camino-like pickup from the very beginning.
However, the rear-quarters conversion might not be the weirdest thing about this Mercedes. The original diesel is gone from the engine bay in favor of a Lexus V8. It seems really odd to pop the hood and find a Japanese mill in this German car, but the photos make it look like a fairly well performed swap. So, bravo to the crazy thinking. According to the seller speaking to Autoblog by email, "as far as we can establish, this was done a few years ago, with all Lexus components."

Time to catch up with Jay Leno's Garage, including his Lamborghini Espada restoration

Tue, Dec 23 2014

If you're already jealous of the time, effort and money that Jay Leno can devote to his massive car collection, prepare to get a little greener with envy with this latest video from Jay Leno's Garage. Instead of the usual format of discussing a model for about ten minutes and then taking it out for a test drive, this week Leno gives viewers on a tour of over a dozen projects concurrently happening in his stable. The breadth of the vehicles shown and the things being done to them run the entire span of the automotive hobby. At the same time, Jay's shop is working on just a simple restoration of his 1969 Lamborghini Espada (pictured), and at the other side of the building, the team is rebuilding a wood-bodied 1914 Detroit Electric from scratch. He eventually plans to slot a more modern electric drivetrain into it. If bikes are more your interest, there's a freshly completed Brough Superior just waiting for a ride, and if American models are your thing, a Ford Bronco is getting a Coyote V8 installed into it. You have some very specific tastes if you can't watch this clip and start wishing at least one of these vehicles could be in your own garage. Other than the personal projects his mechanics are working on in the shop, Jay gets to have them all, plus plenty more.

Our interview with Jeremy Clarkson and James May, plus SEMA! | Autoblog Podcast #491

Fri, Nov 4 2016

This week, David Gluckman and Mike Austin talk SEMA madness, mis-aligned steering wheels, wireless charging, McLarens (they're sports cars!), and decals. We also have an excerpt from a recent interview with James May and Jeremy Clarkson of The Grand Tour and Top Gear fame. As always, we talk about a variety of cars we've been driving and then respond to some questions from listeners. And as a bonus, there's a trivia question mixed in. The rundown is below. Remember, if you have a car-related question you'd like us to answer or you want questionable buying advice of your very own, send a message or a voice memo to podcast at autoblog dot com. Oh, and please send trivia questions! You'll get the honor of stumping your fellow listeners, and we'll thank you too.
