I believe a new AC compressor was installed 3 to 4 years ago. I have noticed that the odometer is not tracking miles. I have a replacement instrument cluster that can fix this issue (comes with the car). The driver's side (left) needs a new caliper. When I did the job a month ago I was unable to get the new caliper to fit and have not had a chance to replace it. I believe the current caliper is Bendix. There is a little pull to the left when breaking and it sounds like the caliper piston may be sticking occasionally. One of the rear windows does not go down once in a while, I think there is a faulty switch. If you press down hard and wiggle the switch it goes down 1/2 the time. Rear end/suspension is sagging and a little bouncy over bumps. The car drives smooth otherwise, especially on the highway. There is rust on the exterior and around the door jams/frames. See links to videos below that detail the car"

Mercedes Benz 300 TD Turbo Diesel Wagon (1979)
~200,000 miles
This is a reliable and safe car.

In the past 3 years the following maintenance has been completed:
1) New motor mounts
2) Front end suspension (bilstein struts, control arms, upper and lower ball joints, guide rod mounts, idler arm bushings, bearings, etc...) I have pictures of every part that was installed, please inquire.
3) 4-new tires
4) Set of new glow plugs
5) Front and Rear flex discs on drivetrain
6) New rear hatch struts
7) Replaced main motor seal
8) New Headlights
9) Front caliper (right).  The driver's side (left) needs a new caliper.  When I did the job a month ago I was unable to get the new caliper to fit and have not had a chance to replace it.  I believe the current caliper is Bendix.  There is a little pull to the left when breaking and it sounds like the caliper piston may be sticking.
10) Tank sending unit for fuel gauge (brand new unit)
11) New battery
12) New starter
13) New voltage regulator
14) Repaired faulty plug on block heater (works perfectly now)
This is well over $2500 in parts and service costs alone.

Also in working condition:
Headlights, high beams, turn signals, break lights, fog lights, hazards, front and rear wipers, horn, radio, heater, front and rear defroster, overhead lights, speedometer, tachometer, clock, fuel gauge, oil pressure gauge, locks, windows.  One of the rear windows does not go down once in a while, I think there is a faulty switch.  If you press down hard and wiggle the switch it goes down 1/2 the time.  Sunroof is manual.

I changed the oil every 4 months or 3,000 miles whichever came first.
Good filters and diesel grade oil. I will do a complete oil change for the new owner; included in the price. Or put the oil and filters in trunk for you to do the job, which ever you prefer.  I also change the inline fuel filter routinely.

Also included:
Full spare tire and Mercedes rim, original Mercedes Tool Kit, Car Jack, Extra car radio/CD player, and other odds and ends of Mercedes car fluids and parts.  Used extra tire to match (this one has wear, but is a useful just in case tire).  3 new oil filters and oil as indicated above.  $100 jump box (free with car).

The Bad:
Air conditioning blowing warm, needs recharged.  I believe a new AC compressor was installed 3 to 4 years ago.
I have noticed that the odometer is not tracking mileage. The estimated mileage is around 200,000 o 250,000.  The odometer currently reads 188,899.
I have a replacement instrument cluster that can fix this issue (comes with the car).
As mentioned above: The driver's side (left) needs a new caliper.  When I did the job a month ago I was unable to get the new caliper to fit and have not had a chance to replace it.
I believe the current caliper is Bendix.  There is a little pull to the left when breaking and it sounds like the caliper piston may be sticking.
One of the rear windows does not go down once in a while, I think there is a faulty switch.  If you press down hard and wiggle the switch it goes down 1/2 the time.
Rear end/suspension is sagging and a little bouncy over bumps.  The car drives smooth otherwise, especially on the highway.
There is some cracking on the drivers side seat and the arm rest.  There is a 1" crack in the dash next to the passenger side speaker.
There is rust on the exterior and around the door jams/frames.  See links to videos below that detail the interior and exterior of the car.

Videos:

This was a California car, with a short life in Ohio, and now Georgia. This is a 34 years old, with signs of normal wear and tear.
The body is in fair to good condition and the engine is in great condition.
Car title notes the following:  "rebuilt/salvage" and "non-actual/Warning Odometer Discrepancy."
This is not uncommon for these cars given the age.

This is my daily driver.  It is a solid car, with years of life left.

Get it for a great price.  The only reason I am selling it is due to relocation for work, otherwise I would be keeping it around.  I love driving it and have always driven these cars (300D, 300TD, 300SD).

Payment Requirements:
Deposit must be made within 24 hours or negative feedback will be left.  Deposit is $500.00 USD.
The remaining balance is due when you or shipper picks up the car (within 3 days of auction close).  This is mandatory unless other arrangements are made before Buy it now or making an offer.

Shipping:
Buyer is responsible for picking up the car or arranging shipping.  Buyer is responsible for the cost of shipping.

FYI, I will be driving from Augusta, GA to New York City on July 31st.
If you live along that route I would consider trailering the car to you for an additional shipping fee to cover the cost of renting a trailer.
Please inquire before placing a bid, if you are considering this shipment option.  This needs to be cleared with me before you buy the car or place an offer.

***Absolutely no returns, Sold "as is," no warranty.***
The car has been described to the best of my knowledge concerning any defects/problems with the interior, exterior, and engine compartment.

Please don't hesitate to ask questions.

Did BMW really win the luxury car sales race?

Sun, Feb 14 2016

As anyone who follows our monthly By The Numbers series already knows, the luxury car sales race in the United States was close all of last year as BMW, Lexus and Mercedes-Benz seesawed up and down for sales supremacy. At the end of the year, it was BMW on top of the standings with 346,023 total sales. Or was it? According to data released by Polk, comparing the actual number of vehicles registered between the three top luxury players in the US paints a slightly different picture. Polk's data suggests that only 335,259 BMWs were registered in 2015, compared to 340,392 Lexus models. Why the disparity? It's all a matter of timing. Actual end consumers buy new cars, in almost all cases, from a franchised dealer. BMW delivered 346,023 vehicles in 2015, but only 335,259 of them were registered by their new owners. Presumably, those 11,000 BMWs did (or will) end up registered in the driveways of consumers, but they hadn't before January 1, 2016. Lexus General Manager Jeff Bracken wrote in an email to Automotive News, "Luxury sales leadership as measured by vehicle registrations is important to Lexus as it represents actual consumers engaging directly with our dealers." Of course, it goes without saying that we'll be paying keen attention to the 2016 luxury car sales race as it unfolds. If it's anything like it was in 2015, it'll come down to the wire, and even then may not be entirely clear. 2022 Mercedes-Maybach S 580 First Drive | This thing rules

Tue, Jun 14 2022

I can’t help but giggle to myself cruising around in the 2022 Mercedes-Maybach S 580. It is so absurdly good at its intended purpose. Just like a Porsche 911 is to performance, the latest Maybach is to all-out luxury. Much of the MaybachÂ’s goodness is thanks to the excellence of the new S-Class. Technological innovations like rear-wheel steering, E-Active Body Control and the latest MBUX software systems, all found in the new S-Class, establish a very lofty floor for the Maybach version of the car to build upon. And yes, when you pay the Maybach S 580Â’s exorbitant $185,950 base price, you get a whole lot more than just the standard S-Class experience. Appearances are half the battle with mega-luxury yachts like this car. The Rolls-Royces and Bentleys of the world are formidable on the road, and this Mercedes-Maybach puts up a good fight. It all starts with the 7-inch-longer wheelbase, most of which youÂ’ll see represented in the massive “comfort rear doors.” And we do mean “comfort” — they electronically swing open or shut via a switch on the ceiling or via a touch to the pop-out door handles. A massive radiator-style grille replaces the comparatively subdued grille in the standard S-Class. The C-pillar is noticeably more upright in the Maybach, and it features a light-up Maybach logo that reminds everybody about how rich you are, even at night.  And lastly, thereÂ’s the utterly breathtaking two-tone paint — pictured in Obsidian Black/Manufaktur Diamond White here — that costs $12,750 extra, but is genuinely worth the coin. Robots first spray the whole body in the lower halfÂ’s color, then the dividing line is hand-painted before both it and the lower part of the car is masked off for the top color to be hand-applied by MercedesÂ’ expert painters. There are lots of steps that were just left out, but know that the process can take up to a week in the custom paint shop before the body is returned to the regular production process. The end result of all these changes is a sedan that is both deeply different in character but also recognizable as the S-Class it is based on. ItÂ’s also just as imposing and rich-looking as a Bentley Flying Spur, so donÂ’t worry about being out-classed in the country club parking lot. Deciding which seat to occupy — the driverÂ’s seat, or the lounge-like rear seat — on the way to said country club might be the most difficult decision any Maybach S 580 owner will have to make on any given day.

Mercedes-Benz S-Class presentation leaked, debuting in May

Fri, 22 Feb 2013

WorldCarFans was reportedly sent what looks like a dealer presentation on the coming V222 series 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class. There have been hints for years as to the kinds of technology the world's best-selling large luxury sedan will contain, and it appears those hints had some foundation. To be shown in Germany on May 15 before a launch window that runs from September to November this year, the evolutionary design will be built of aluminum and steel, using that lighter material for the front end, roof and "detached body parts."
Among the new options buyers will be able to choose are the Rear Seat Package with rear seatbelt airbags and active buckles that extend, a Warmth and Comfort Package with heated seats front and back, heated armrests and side panels, and power rear seats with active ventilation and memory function. There's a chauffeur seating option that comes with 10-way adjustable rear seats, an extendable footrest and folding tables in the front seatbacks.
Blatant technology will be on display via two 12.3-inch screens, one for the dash cluster and one for the COMAND infotainment screen on the instrument panel. The third generation of Nightview Assist Plus will be able to detect animals as well as humans, and the next generation of Surround View will provide high-res views all around the car. A touchpad and a color head-up display will arrive in 2015. It will be the first Mercedes-Benz to utilize LED lighting everywhere, inside and outside the car.
