The brake force struts in the front suspension are shot so the front end clunks under braking and some turning but I have had my mechanic look at it and the ball joints, a-arms, etc. are fine, its just the brake force struts."

1991 Mercedes Benz 350 SDL.  It is the same as the 1986 or 1987 300 SDL but the engine is larger and more powerful (it is geared a little higher, 3rd redlines at 80 mph and the factory claimed this car could do 115 mph), the turbo is updated, the rear end and transmission are heavier duty.  The car has 394k, a new bottom end around 100k ago, new head (a #22 head) went in 4 months ago.  The radiator, a/c compressor, axles and vacuum lines are all new.  The engine runs like new (it practically is new), transmission shifts flawlessly and a/c blows really cold. Original paint is ok with one ding near trunk lid.  Tires are new three months ago.   Receipts for all items previously mentioned as new.  The drivers side door lock is pretty worn out so it is difficult to lock/unlock on that side but passenger door lock works perfect, the plastic around the headlights has a few age cracks as does the door panels near the door locks and the clear coat on some of the woodwork.    The interior is pretty good except for a small tear in the drivers seat. Everything works except for power antennae stays up.   New pioneer stereo with usb jack.  This car is more of a runner than a show car, while everything is there and works for the most part, everything shows wear.  The motors for these cars go for 8500$ for a rebuilt longblock and that is what this car has under the hood with 100k miles on it, and a good transmission to boot, just realize everything else shows age.  To start the car in the morning, just turn on the glow plugs for 1 or 2 seconds and barely crank the starter for a second and it starts right up with a perfect smooth idle.  The car is very quiet and smooth, never been in an accident, has no rust in the undercarriage.

Mercedes chief invites Audi, BMW to compete in F1

Thu, Dec 4 2014

Mercedes-Benz didn't just win the Formula One World Championship in 2014 – it positively dominated it. The team won all but three of the grands prix this season, scoring a one-two finish at more than half of them and landing at least one car on the podium at every race without exception. It goes without saying, then, that the German automaker thrives on competition, but now it's welcoming even more. Speaking with Germany's Sport Bild at its homecoming celebration in Stuttgart, Daimler chief Dieter Zetsche welcomed Mercedes' biggest rivals Audi and BMW to join it on the F1 grid. Noting that the three German brands share some 80 percent of the market for luxury automobiles, Zetsche said that F1 would make a natural arena of competition for Mercedes, Audi and BMW to fight for top bragging rights. The three currently compete against each other in front of home audiences in the DTM touring car series – effectively Germany's equivalent to NASCAR – but of the ten races held this year, the majority were in Germany itself, and all of them took place in Europe. BMW last competed in F1 when it bought the Sauber team in 2006, but withdrew from the series in 2009. Despite its progenitor Auto Union having fielded the famous Silver Arrows in pre-war grand prix racing, Audi has never been a player in modern F1 racing, though recent rumors have linked it to a potential foray – spurred by the arrival of sister-company Porsche on its home turf at Le Mans, the departure of several of its key endurance drivers and the hiring of former Scuderia Ferrari chief Stefano Domenicali. Porsche had similarly considered an F1 program before getting the go-ahead to compete with Audi at Le Mans. As for the prospect of Mercedes competing in other international racing series, Zetsche added that year-long preparations for 24 hours of racing at Le Mans didn't present a good cost-benefit ratio in his estimation, but that Formula E (where Audi currently supports a quasi-works entry) would be worth a closer look.

Production Mercedes GLC Coupe coming in 2016

Fri, Sep 18 2015

If the Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe Concept from this year's Shanghai Motor Show caught your eye, we've got good news. The company confirmed that this model will enter production, and we should see the road-going model early next year, probably at the New York Auto Show. Dr. Gunnar Guthenke, Mercedes' G-Class boss, confirmed this during an event following this week's Frankfurt Motor Show. He's particularly proud of how Mercedes has expanded its crossover and SUV lines, and the addition of the BMW X4-fighting GLC Coupe only proves further commitment to this growth. The numbers don't lie – Mercedes' crossover and SUV sales are up 25 percent this year, compared to 2014 numbers. Even Mercedes' halo of SUVs, the G-Class, is experiencing increased sales. The company set a record for G-Class sales in 2014, and is on track to do it again this year; sales are up roughly 20 percent. For 2016, the G-Wagen gets a number of enhancements, including a 4.0-liter, twin-turbo V8 as the new base engine. Other markets get a new diesel engine for 2016, and more updates are on the way. "Our legend has a bright future," Guthenke said. We'll have a full review of the updated G550 next week, so stay tuned.

Average new-vehicle transaction price hits a whopping new peak in December

Wed, Jan 11 2023

Elevated prices for products and higher borrowing rates led to record high transaction prices for new vehicles in December, with the average cost in the U.S. rising to a record $49,507, according to data from Kelley Blue Book released today. The report notes that ATPs — average transaction prices — have climbed above suggested retail prices — MSRPs — for more than a year. Sales volumes were up in December on a year-over-year basis by more than 5%, a situation Kelley attributed to improved supply. Overall sales for 2022, however, were off 8% year over year. “The transaction data from December clearly indicates overall prices showed no signs of coming down as we headed into year-end,” said Rebecca Rydzewski, research manager of economic and industry insights for Cox Automotive. “Luxury prices fell slightly in December, but non-luxury transaction prices were up. Truck sales were particularly strong last month, and with many trucks selling for more than $60,000, a new record was all but inevitable.” Industry analysts claim the most obvious headwinds in the new car market are generated by higher interest rates, forced by the Federal Reserve's rate hikes intended to tame inflation, and by generally limited inventory. A recent report from J.D. Power showed that the average monthly payment for a new vehicle loan in December was $718, up $47 from a year ago. But 16% of consumers in December took out loans with monthly payments of over $1,000. Consumers think vehicles, and electric vehicles especially, are way too expensive. Fortunately, manufacturersÂ’ incentives, all but extinct in the past two years, are returning, especially in the electric-vehicle and luxury market, the Kelley data suggest. Plus, "With the new tax credits on the way, electric vehicle ATPs will drop lower for qualifying vehicles,” Rydzewski said. Non-luxury brands, such as Honda and Kia, showed particularly strong performance in December, with the average price paid at $45,578 — a record high and an increase of $994 month over month. Meanwhile, the average luxury buyer paid $66,660 for a new vehicle last month. Mercedes-Benz and Land Rover showed the most price strength in the luxury market, transacting between 2.6% to 6.5% over sticker price. But luxury brands Audi, BMW, Infiniti, Lexus, Lincoln, and Volvo showed the least price strength with some discounting in effect, selling 1% or more below MSRP in December, according to the survey.
