Up for auction is two Mercedes Benz 300Ds a 1990 and 1991. I bought the 90 Benz off eBay with the intent to fix up my 91. The 91 was my fathers car, who is a Diesel Tech, it was also my first car. I recently started driving it again last year so I could save on fuel cost commuting back and forth to work. I am getting about 32mpg in stop and go traffic. It is an ugly car now and gets no respect on the road. It looked a lot better before it was parked in the middle of parking lot at my Dad's work with no shade for six years. I did not need to do much to get it driving again. I replaced the injection pump, delivery valve's O-rings, return lines, rubber supply fuel lines, I bypassed the fuel thermostat, gave it an oil change, a transmission flush, Master cylinder and two new tires. It drives ok, suspension and steering components are worn and the ac is in-op due to a bad clutch on the AC compressor. I can't complain, it starts up every time, doesn't burn any oil and has never let me down. I just don't have the time anymore. I've been driving the 91 Benz for a year and still driving it daily. I love it but I haven't been able to do anything to fix it up and I have too many other vehicles that need repair. Well that... and my Wife hates them and doesn't want to see them in the driveway anymore. The 1990 Benz was bought here on ebay as a donor car for the 91. The previous owner purchased it at an insurance auction in Miami. The car was in a flood inside a parking garage sometime in 2002. The car was totaled out and has NO TITLE just a bill of sale. I haven't gone though the car very well. The car has 168,xxx miles on it. I serviced it, installed a new battery, drained all the fuel, and replaced the radiator and now it's running. It runs well but I did notice that the water pump leaks, the fan culch is in-op, the brakes need to be bled and the muffler is rusted out. I drove the 90 Benz around town for a little while and it has a lot more power the 91. It drives fine as long as you aren't sitting in heavy traffic. Because it was flooded, some of the accessories aren't working like the windows, door locks, back head rests, cd player, blower motor, horn, and the power seats. Also the back passenger rear window is stuck down. It's perfect for parts or it can be fixed up with a little more time and effort. The cars are sold as is. Local buyers preferred. Serious buyers only. |

Aston or Bust? Maybach's fate to be decided next month
Mon, 13 Jun 20112011 Maybach 62 - Click above for high-res image gallery
What will become of Maybach? That question has been rattling around the halls of Daimler headquarters in Stuttgart for some time now. But all questions will be answered, and answered soon: according to reports, the German automaker is currently evaluating prototypes and propositions for its top-end marque, and will make its decision next month.
So, what are the options? On the one hand, Daimler could kill the Maybach brand altogether. It was a notion ill conceived and even more poorly executed, taking an old platform and building a new flagship atop it. In that way, it was sort of like the Chrysler Crossfire, only far more costly to both the buyer and manufacturer. On the other hand, Daimler could opt for the long-time-coming proposition of contracting the production (and possibly much of the development) of a new generation of Maybachs to Aston Martin.
Chris Harris and David Coulthard wring out a Mercedes Fintail at the N"urburgring
Thu, 17 Oct 2013If there's one thing we've learned from the latest video from Drive, it's that the combination of Chris Harris and David Coulthard will produce some very quotable moments. Take this exchange, for example.
DC: "We are by some way the slowest."
CH: "But we're in a class of three cars, apparently."
Mercedes widens luxury sales gap on strong early CLA demand
Wed, 02 Oct 2013Mercedes-Benz CLA sales have been booming, with the Stuttgart-based manufacturer moving 2,300 of the sleek four-doors in its first week on sale. That is astonishing. Mercedes moved nearly twice as many CLAs (which start at $29,900) in one week than Jaguar, a brand that is on a very solid roll, sold in all of September. Ignoring the price differences between the Jag line and the CLA, that is still wildly impressive.
Mercedes has been pushing the CLA in television ads, using a shortened version of its Super Bowl spot, which starred William Dafoe, Usher and Kate Upton. "As the bargain entrance into the Mercedes portfolio, we weren't sure how luxury buyers would react," Kelly Blue Book auto analyst Alec Gutierrez told Bloomberg.
The CLA push was just part of MB's 6.7-percent increase in September sales, which were also helped along by a 17-percent jump in E-Class sales. That surge has allowed Mercedes to widen its 2013 sales lead over its rival, BMW, to 2,491 cars, according to Bloomberg. If CLA sales continue at this rate, we can only expect that margin to grow.
