We do not play the game of 'if you don't ask we don't tell'.
I wouldn't be afraid to drive this car anywhere.
Up for auction today is a 1986 Mercedes-Benz diesel sedan. I have been driving this as my work commuter car for the last 3 months. I drive it between 100 and 120 miles round trip 4 days per week depending on whether I pick up my commuting partner or not. Its never left me stranded or not started. The only reason I am selling it is because it gets about 24 MPG and I just picked up a Ford Focus that gets 35 MPG.
Engine; This vehicle is equipped with the more sought after inline 6 cylinder. It seems to be much peppier than the 4 or 5 cylinders, no problems with it other than it needs a valve cover gasket, it doesn't leak alot but it's enough to be annoying. I will replace the valve cover gasket and adjust the valves as soon as either it hits the reserve or the buy it now. It has recently had a full service, fan clutch, radiator and belt tensioner strut. I guess the guy that had it before me had a problem with it overheating and instead of actually diagnosing it correctly they just started throwing parts at it. The fan clutch was the problem.
It has an automatic transmission that shifts as it should.
Interior; The interior is the worst part about this car. The leather is old dry and sun rotted. I put some decent seat covers on the front but nothing on the rear. I never have passengers in the rear anyway. The headliner is good, door panels fair to good. One of the rear doors is missing a piece of trim. The sunroof does work but it does not seal well and sometimes you have to play with it to get it in the right position. The drivers side rear window does not work, all others do. Speedometer and odometer work but it reads about 12 MPH fast. The A/C blows cold but it won't shift the position, only blows out the defroster. Cruise control does not work and in fact the only time it does work in when you don't want it to. It has started accelerating several times by itself. If you move the control lever a little bit it stops. Honestly the whole thing needs to be disabled. I just haven't taken the time to do it.
Paint and body, fair, not good because so much of the clear coat is coming off. Has a couple minor dings and scratches. CA car so not rusty.
Tires and suspension; fair to good. It needs a set of tires and if it sells for $2300 or more I will put a set of mid-grade new tires on it, (not a set of 80,000 mile tires) and get a alignment done as well as replace the upper, outer control arm bushings before doing so. It has had a bunch of tie rod ends replaced as well as the idler arm bushings replaced. The rear brake pads are new and the master cylinder is to. Car stops on a dime and the ABS works. The ABS light has come on a time or two but never stays on and never affects the braking.
I put a new battery in it when I got it. I had every intention of keeping it forever but when I found out the kind of mileage it really gets I started looking for something better. A lot of people will advertise these cars as getting 30-40 mpg, they are full of it. You might get that out of a non-turbo car but not a turbo equipped one.
The windshield has 5-6 medium sized chips in the glass caused by rocks along with a large old crack but nothing is in the drivers view.
I have done my best to describe this car as accurately as possible. Please look at all pictures and ask before you bid.
We expect a $100 non-refundable deposit within 24 hours. The only way will refund your money is if the condition of the car changes or we have somehow grossly misrepresented the condition of the car. We expect full payment within 10 days of the end of the auction or at time of pick-up, whichever occurs first.
Contact me before biding if you don't have at least 3 positive feedbacks. If it does not meet the reserve I may part it out so send me your email address and what your interested in.

I reserve the right to end this auction at any time before the reserve is met, as the car is for sale locally also.

2014 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG S 4Matic [w/video]
Wed, 20 Feb 2013Maybe you saw our recent blog snippet on a bunch of US journos getting pulled over in the middle of nowhere in Catalunya, Spain for driving a bunch of new 2014 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG models. By all accounts, they weren't speeding - which makes me softly guffaw. I was there in that group, yet I had taken the more direct route into the mountains from Barcelona so that I could... well, so that I could go faster. No one hassled me and I had the Autovia all to myself. And it was the goodniks - the team players - who got nabbed because Spain had decided to suddenly enforce the never enforced "must carry an international driver's license" clause of the highway code.
The departing E63 AMG with 518 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque from its M157 5.5-liter biturbo V8 hasn't exactly been poorly received. It isn't as crisp as, nor as pleasantly evil as its C63 AMG kid brother, but we generally accept that the heavier and larger car will always feel, well, heavier and larger.
As part of the 2014 E-Class mid-cycle redesign, Affalterbach decided to give its E63 AMG more power and torque for the occasion. The base car now gives off 550 hp and 531 lb-ft, while the hotter S version I tested (formerly the AMG Performance Pack) produces 577 hp and 590 lb-ft. The other big novelty is that E63 sedans will be available with both rear- and all-wheel drive, while all US-spec E63 wagons will be 4Matic equipped.
Recharge Wrap-up: Mercedes gets F1 efficiency, EV charging in Vermont, VW e-Golf to use Bosch
Mon, Jul 14 2014Efficiency equals performance, especially in the case of Formula 1 racing. The Mercedes AMC Petronas team points to several key efficiency technologies it uses to get the most out of its cars. And if their utter dominance so far this season is testament to this relationship, perhaps we should pay attention. Mercedes highlights hybrid tech, turbocharging, aerodynamics, lightweight construction, tribology (both in making internal components and lubricants more slippery) and simulation as crucial to getting around the track faster than anyone else. These just happen to be some of the same things that make the cars we drive on public roads more fuel-efficient. Learn more in the press release below. It's a good read. Brammo, maker of sweet electric motorcycles, is teaming up with TEAM Industries to make drivetrains for electric vehicles. TEAM, which specializes in drivetrain technology, will also become an investor in Brammo as part of the partnership. "The electric vehicle market is a growth market," says TEAM CEO and President David Ricke, "and TEAM and Brammo will be providing a wide range of solutions for OEM manufacturers." Read more over at EV World. Vermont celebrated the installation of a new EV charging station as part of a Green Energy Corridor between Boston and Montreal. When finished, drivers will be able to make the whole trip in an EV with access to charging along the way. For $5, customers can charge their vehicle in about 30 minutes at the Red Hen Baking Company in Middlesex. There are currently only about 700 EVs on the road in Vermont. The state has a goal to get 90 percent of its energy from renewable sources by 2050, and getting more EVs on the road is crucial to that mission. Vermont hopes that expanding the charging infrastructure will convince more people to go electric. Read more at Vermont Public Radio's website. For it's new e-Golf, Volkswagen will use Bosch chargers for home installation and ChargePoint stations at its dealerships. Bosch will have various 240-volt options for the home, and will also provide installation. e-Golf customers will also get a free ChargePoint membership, and will have access to the company's network of charging stations worldwide. The 2015 e-Golf goes on sale in the US later this year. Read more in the press release below. Fastest cars in the world by top speed, 0-60 and quarter mile
Tue, Feb 13 2024A claim for the title of “Fastest Car in the World” might seem easy to settle. ItÂ’s actually anything but: Are we talking production cars, race cars or customized monsters? And what does “fastest” even mean? For years, car publications have tended to define “fastest” in terms of an unbeatable top speed. ThatÂ’s distinct from the “quickest” car in a Usain Bolt-style dash from the starting blocks, as with the familiar 0-60 mph metric. Professionals often focus on track lap times or elapsed time-to-distance, as with a drag racer thatÂ’s first to trip the beam of light at the end of a quarter-mile; or the 1,000-foot trip of nitromethane-powered NHRA Top Fuel and Funny Car dragsters. Something tells us, however, that you're not seeking out an answer of "Brittany Force rewriting the NHRA record books with a 3.659-second pass at a boggling 338.17 mph." For most barroom speed arguments, the focus is firmly on cars you can buy in showrooms, even if many are beyond the financial means of all but the wealthiest buyers and collectors. Here are some of the enduring sources of speed claims, counter-claims, tall tales and taunting dismissals that are the lifeblood of car enthusiasts – now with EVs adding an unexpected twist to these passionate pursuits.  Fastest from the blocks: 0-60 mph Thirty years ago, any car that could clock 60 mph in five seconds or less was considered extremely quick. Today, high-performance, gasoline-powered sedans and SUVs are routinely breaking below 4 seconds. As of today, the 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 crushes all with a 0-60 mph time of just 1.66 seconds. That's simply absurd, but keep in mind the Demon was engineered with the single-minded purpose of going fast in a straight line. It's also important to realize that direct comparisons are difficult, because not all of these times were accomplished with similar conditions (prepped surfaces, adjustments for elevation and so on). The moral here is to take these times with a tiny grain of salt. After the Dodge, the Rimac Nevera comes in with an officially recorded 0-60 mph time of just 1.74 seconds. EVs crowd the quickest list, with the Pininfarina Battista coming in a few hundredths slower (1.79 seconds) than the Nevera and the Lucid Air sapphire (1.89 seconds) right after that. Eventually, you arrive to the Tesla Model S Plaid, which has a claimed 1.99-second 0-60 mph time, though instrumented testing by Car and Driver shows it accomplishes the deed in 2.1 seconds.
