LOOK AT THE AUTO HISTORY REPORT!!! THIS CAR IS PURE AND ACCURATE AS THE DRIVEN SNOW!!!!

This car has certified low miles and runs fantastic and shifts right on time!!!! Powerful!!!! I am listing this to primarily sell the engine and transmission, plus the interior is very, very nice also. Chicago and northern Indiana winters/salt have taken their toll on the body. There are a few rust holes and other rough areas. No major dents or accidents. A body man can turn this into a raving beauty, but I am not such and I am not giving anyone 3-4 grand to do that (body work). IT IS SAFE TO DRIVE BODY-WISE JUST AS IT IS! I drive it daily as we speak.

I would not hesitate to drive to Seattle, or San Diego, or Miami, or Maine, RIGHT NOW. Its fast, (for a diesel) the interior is very nice and all the safety features work.

IF A PERSON IS LOOKING FOR A PERFECT DIESEL MOTOR AND TRANSMISSION TO DROP INTO A NICE 300SD BODY (126 CHASSIS), THEN THIS IS THE ONE!!!! FURTHERMORE, YOU DON'T HAVE TO SHIP IT!!! FLY, TRAIN OR BUS IN AND I'LL PICK YOU UP, BRING YOU TO THE CAR AND YOU CAN DRIVE IT HOME!!! THE FUEL MILEAGE IS UNREAL!

So its your choice; buy the car and do the body work or buy the car and take the motor, transmission and seats out. EIGHTY-SIX THOUSAND LEGITIMATE MILES!!!!! 86,000!

I will not ship. If you use a shipper he must report when pickup day is, BEFORE that day arrives and we must mutually agree on a time. If you're going to personally pick the car up we will arrange a date and time mutually. If you plan on using a tow dolley, be advised you MUST disconnect the drive shaft from this car to use a dolley safely and not damage the vehicle. I WILL NOT REMOVE THE ENGINE AND TRANS FOR YOU! You will be picking up a whole, safely drivable vehicle. Deposits are non-refundable. Cash or postal money order(s) required for balance at pickup.

I am currently driving the vehicle so the mileage is going up

Clark Gable's 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing doesn't sell, then does sell for $1.85 million [UPDATE: w/video]

Sat, 19 Jan 2013

How much extra value does previous celebrity ownership add to of a car? Really, there's no way to know until the car in question hits the auction block and bidders start raising their hands. In the case of the 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing you see above, the celebrity owner is none other than Clark Gable, who purchased it new. After Gable's death in 1960, the car changed hands a few times before settling with Charles Wood in 1975.
A high-dollar restoration was performed in 1989, and period accessories added by Gable himself were kept in place, including the Rudge knock-off wheels and Nardi steering wheel. Any Mercedes-Benz 300SL is worth a big chunk of money. In the case of Clark Gable's old Gullwing, the bidding stalled at $1.9 million here at the 2013 Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale. As one of the 5000-series cars, this 300SL carried a reserve, and a bit of after-the-fact dealmaking saw the car change hands for $1.85 million.
You can see our high-res image gallery above, and the car's official auction description below.

Daimler names Bernd Pischetsrieder to supervisory board

Mon, 14 Apr 2014

Some executives in the automotive industry stay with one company for their entire careers, while others bounce from one to the other, often leaving their indelible mark on each automaker at which they serve. Bob Lutz is certainly an example of the latter. So is Lee Iacocca, having presided over Ford and later charing the Chrysler board. Carlos Tavares was chief operating officer of Renault before being nominated as chief executive at PSA Peugeot Citroën. But as far as the Germans go, nobody's jumped from the leadership of one automaker to the next quite like Bernd Pischetsrieder - especially now that he's been named to the supervisory board of Mercedes-Benz parent company Daimler.
An engineer by training, Pischetsrieder started his career at BMW in 1973, eventually rising to the office of CEO after twenty years. There he remained until 1999, only to be dismissed after orchestrating BMW's takeover of the Rover Group (of which only the Mini brand remains in the company's portfolio, the other brands having been sold off after his dismissal).
The next year he was named chairman of Volkswagen's Seat brand, and rose to the chairmanship of the entire Volkswagen Group two years later. Despite a largely successful four-year tenure (that gave birth, incidentally, to the Bugatti Veyron), disagreements with supervisory board chairman Ferdinand Piëch saw him leave the helm at VW AG, focusing his attention on the Scania truck division. He's since been touted as a potential chief executive for Opel and for Continental, but neither potential was apparently realized.

Here's how Detroit is selling more luxury vehicles than Germany and Japan

Sun, Dec 14 2014

Now there's an attention-grabbing headline, eh? Although the answer to the riddle - pickup trucks and SUVs - might be somehow deflating, the numbers involved deserve a going over. According to TrueCar's figures (click on the table to enlarge), six of the year's ten best-selling vehicles in the US that sell for a transaction price above $50,000 are body-on-frame, and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class is the only foreigner to crack the top five. Every enthusiast knows that pickup trucks are 'Murica's most popular vehicle by a colossal margin, and there have been plenty of reports about the popularity of luxuriously appointed trucks and SUVs, but compare these figures from TrueCar: 70 percent of Chevrolet Tahoe sales have a transaction price above $50K, and The Bowtie is expected to make $3.9 billion in revenue on 66,945 predicted high-dollar sales; 95.1 percent of E-Class sales break $50K, so the German company will make $4.0 billion on 67,006 predicted sales in that pricing sphere. It's about the only time you'll see the Tahoe ranked right next to Mercedes' bread-and-butter sedan. Ram is ahead of those two with $4.2B coming from $50K-plus sales. The Ford F-Series does almost as much revenue as the next three combined, with an expected $10.8 billion coming from sales of trucks over $50K - more than a quarter of the model's total sales, when a base F-150 can be had for about $26,000. Yes, the Germans make a lot more money on fewer sales, but considering the comparison, the bottom line isn't too troubled by such facts. Weighing like-for-like, the full-size Ford walks it in every category; elsewhere, the Chevrolet Silverado outsells the Ram, but the Ram outsells the Chevy by 6.7 percent above $50K. And for all the flak GMC takes over swapping out grilles, the Sierra also outsells the Chevy in the well-appointed segment, 16.1 percent of sales versus 11 percent – the Professional Grade brand is a huge profit center for The General. You'll find more info in the TrueCar press release below.
