1985 Mercedes Benz 300D. Last year of the W123 and the cast iron head/block 617 turbo diesel. 154,xxx on a working odometer. Runs excellent one of the quickest 300D's I've ever owned.
New compressor and receiver dryer. Air conditioning is ice cold. Auxillary fan works properly with a/c. Nice interior. One small "patch" area on the driver bolster. See pics. The material on the theses seats is easy to remove if you were to consider a proper repair. One minor crack in dash, very nice. Sunroof works. All the power windows function properly. Brakes are almost new. Healthy front suspension. Block heater. Sony CD player with amp and nice speakers. Hirschmann electric antenna works properly. The car was repainted (before I bought it) nautical blue. The original color was champagne. The door jams were not repainted. Tires are 215 75 14. The two fronts are approximately 70%, the rears are around half that. Excellent body. NO RUST! Florida car. Central locks and cruise control are inoperative and I have not attempted troubleshooting. Locks are vacuum oriented and can be repaired reasonably easy. Doors can still be manually locked. Overall a very dependable nice car that runs, drives and shifts very well. Recent valve adjustment. Perfect for commuting, daily driving or second vehicle No reserve auction. Buyer to pay 500.00 deposit 24 hours of auctions close with balance due in 7 days. Mercedes widens luxury sales gap on strong early CLA demand
Wed, 02 Oct 2013Mercedes-Benz CLA sales have been booming, with the Stuttgart-based manufacturer moving 2,300 of the sleek four-doors in its first week on sale. That is astonishing. Mercedes moved nearly twice as many CLAs (which start at $29,900) in one week than Jaguar, a brand that is on a very solid roll, sold in all of September. Ignoring the price differences between the Jag line and the CLA, that is still wildly impressive.
Mercedes has been pushing the CLA in television ads, using a shortened version of its Super Bowl spot, which starred William Dafoe, Usher and Kate Upton. "As the bargain entrance into the Mercedes portfolio, we weren't sure how luxury buyers would react," Kelly Blue Book auto analyst Alec Gutierrez told Bloomberg.
The CLA push was just part of MB's 6.7-percent increase in September sales, which were also helped along by a 17-percent jump in E-Class sales. That surge has allowed Mercedes to widen its 2013 sales lead over its rival, BMW, to 2,491 cars, according to Bloomberg. If CLA sales continue at this rate, we can only expect that margin to grow.

Piloting an 8,500-pound motorized house down the highway is far from my idea of fun, yet inexplicably, I'm enjoying myself. My grin has nothing to do with my camper's handling, as this heavily accoutered Mercedes-Benz Sprinter drives like a 25-foot long breadbox. My smile has nothing to do with on-road stability, as the ten-foot-tall, slab-sided vehicle reacts to wind gusts like the vertical stabilizer on a Boeing jet. My delight has nothing to do with its throttle or braking response, either, as both are as numb as your forehead after the eighth beer.
This monstrosity makes me happy for one reason - my passengers are undeniably having a good time.
Clark Gable's 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing doesn't sell, then does sell for $1.85 million [UPDATE: w/video]
Sat, 19 Jan 2013How much extra value does previous celebrity ownership add to of a car? Really, there's no way to know until the car in question hits the auction block and bidders start raising their hands. In the case of the 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing you see above, the celebrity owner is none other than Clark Gable, who purchased it new. After Gable's death in 1960, the car changed hands a few times before settling with Charles Wood in 1975.
A high-dollar restoration was performed in 1989, and period accessories added by Gable himself were kept in place, including the Rudge knock-off wheels and Nardi steering wheel. Any Mercedes-Benz 300SL is worth a big chunk of money. In the case of Clark Gable's old Gullwing, the bidding stalled at $1.9 million here at the 2013 Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale. As one of the 5000-series cars, this 300SL carried a reserve, and a bit of after-the-fact dealmaking saw the car change hands for $1.85 million.
