SUNROOF

1984 Mercedes 300D Turbo Sedan. This has been my baby since 2001 and has served me well. I bought it with 172,000 miles on it and have replaced many parts since I have had it.

I currently have 248,618 on the Odometer.

Now for the Bad, car will have to be towed or loaded on to a car carrier, it will run and drive short distances, but there is a large knock in the engine and that will need to be rebuilt. My friend borrowed the car when it was in L.A. and ran the thing with the thermostat stuck shut until the engine overheated.

In addition, the exhaust system from the down Y in the middle of the car, although the way back is missing, it fell off on the ride to L.A. in Colorado, although it sounded amazing until the engine overheated a month later.

The rear bumper fell off, but I still have it.

No radio, but has two Boston speakers in back and two focal tweeters in the front.

The vehicle is all pre-wired to handle a new radio install.

There is a Wilson CB antenna wired into the vehicle and set for a lip trunk mount. The vehicle has 4 Blizzak Snow Tires on it as well.

Everything worked on it prior to the epic trip it had out West.

THE GOOD:

THIS WAS MY FIRST BABY INTO THE WORLD OF THE W123 CHASSIS

MANY NEW PARTS OVER THE LAST 12 YEARS I HAVE OWNED IT

A GREAT SOUND SYSTEM

THE VIRGIN GUADELOUPE SHIFTER

THE BAD:

REAR BUMPER IS NOT ON THE CAR, BUT I STILL HAVE IT. IT CAN BE WELDED ON PRETTY EASILY

ENGINE HAS A LOUD KNOCKING NOISE AND WILL NEED A REBUILD, BUT IT STILL STARTS SO PROBABLY BAD BEARINGS.

BOTH MUFFLERS MISSING IN THE MIDDLE OF COLORADO, BUT MAN DOES IT SOUND NICE, I WOULD HAVE STRAIGHT PIPED IT IF MY FRIEND DIDN’T KILL THE ‘UNBREAKABLE’ ENGINE OF ALL TIME THAT NORMALLY GOES A MILLION MILES.

THE UGLY:

SOME RUST SPOTS, NOTHING TOO EXTREME

YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE TO TOW THIS AWAY, BUT IT CAN DRIVE UP ON A TRANSPORTER SO THAT’S A PLUS

Mercedes chief invites Audi, BMW to compete in F1

Thu, Dec 4 2014

Mercedes-Benz didn't just win the Formula One World Championship in 2014 – it positively dominated it. The team won all but three of the grands prix this season, scoring a one-two finish at more than half of them and landing at least one car on the podium at every race without exception. It goes without saying, then, that the German automaker thrives on competition, but now it's welcoming even more. Speaking with Germany's Sport Bild at its homecoming celebration in Stuttgart, Daimler chief Dieter Zetsche welcomed Mercedes' biggest rivals Audi and BMW to join it on the F1 grid. Noting that the three German brands share some 80 percent of the market for luxury automobiles, Zetsche said that F1 would make a natural arena of competition for Mercedes, Audi and BMW to fight for top bragging rights. The three currently compete against each other in front of home audiences in the DTM touring car series – effectively Germany's equivalent to NASCAR – but of the ten races held this year, the majority were in Germany itself, and all of them took place in Europe. BMW last competed in F1 when it bought the Sauber team in 2006, but withdrew from the series in 2009. Despite its progenitor Auto Union having fielded the famous Silver Arrows in pre-war grand prix racing, Audi has never been a player in modern F1 racing, though recent rumors have linked it to a potential foray – spurred by the arrival of sister-company Porsche on its home turf at Le Mans, the departure of several of its key endurance drivers and the hiring of former Scuderia Ferrari chief Stefano Domenicali. Porsche had similarly considered an F1 program before getting the go-ahead to compete with Audi at Le Mans. As for the prospect of Mercedes competing in other international racing series, Zetsche added that year-long preparations for 24 hours of racing at Le Mans didn't present a good cost-benefit ratio in his estimation, but that Formula E (where Audi currently supports a quasi-works entry) would be worth a closer look.

Race Recap: 2015 Canadian F1 Grand Prix is better behind the front

Mon, Jun 8 2015

As of Saturday afternoon in Montreal, Canada, it was all about the number four. Lewis Hamilton put his Mercedes-AMG Petronas on pole position for the fourth time at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, and now his tally of pole positions matches his race number: 44. Nico Rosberg lines up beside him, which is the fourth time that particular one-two combo has occurred this season. Ferrari spent three engine development tokens to try and close the gap to Mercedes, Kimi Raikkonen making the most of it with third position on the gird. His teammate Sebastian Vettel got the worst of it, however, when the MGU-K unit failed during Q1, leaving him 160 horsepower down and out at the first hurdle. Valtteri Bottas put a revitalized Williams on the grid at fourth, ahead of a Lotus lockout of the third row with Romain Grosjean leading the way in fifth, Pastor Maldonado just beside. Nico Hulkenberg got the first Sahara Force India into seventh – the team is still waiting on the upgraded B car that should be available for Austria – ahead of Daniil Kvyat in the first Infiniti Red Bull Racing and a "pissed off" Daniel Ricciardo in the second Red Bull. Sergio Perez made it two Force Indias in the top ten, a welcome result from a team performing below expectations of late. When the lights went out, at the very front it was much ado about not that much at all. Hamilton got away clean and stabbed across the track to close the door for Rosberg, giving Raikkonen a chance to take the inside line into Turn 1 in an attempt to clear Rosberg for second place. That didn't happen, leaving the two Mercedes' to run in grid position for the entire race. It wasn't boring – Rosberg stayed close, rubber-banding the time gap to the leader from a little more than one second to just under four seconds, and Montreal is famous for race-rearranging safety cars and on-track incidents. But none of those occurred, so Hamilton crossed the line 2.285 seconds ahead of Rosberg after 70 laps to earn his fourth victory in Canada and the first-ever victory for the Brackley, UK-based Mercedes team. Valtteri Bottas drove his Williams to third position, the first podium place for the team this year and a welcome salve to heal the team's wounds from a poor showing in Monaco. That placing came courtesy of being in the right place at the right time, which was not far behind Raikkonen when the Ferrari driver spun at the hairpin on Lap 28 after his first pit stop.

Russia gives its Olympic medalists new Mercedes

Thu, 27 Feb 2014

Russian medalists at the recently concluded Sochi Winter Olympics are being rewarded quite handsomely for their service to the Motherland. In addition to the $120,000 being handed out for each gold medal, the $76,000 being awarded for slivers and $52,000 given to bronze winners, now word has come out that each of Russia's medalists will be gifted a new Mercedes-Benz.
As with the prize amounts, the type of Mercedes offered was based on what sort of medal was won. Gold medalists got a new GL-Class, silver medalists were given an ML and bronze medalists were treated to a GLK. As prices for Mercedes are higher in Russia, the cheapest model, the GLK, was the equivalent of $59,500, according to The Moscow Times. The cars were handed out by Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, pictured above with figure skating medalist Julia Lipnitskaia.
"I was a bit shocked at the car I was given," Anton Shipulin, a member of the gold-medal biathlon relay team, told RIA-Novosti. "Of course I knew what kind of model it would be, but I didn't totally believe it." For athletes not old enough to drive, like 15-year-old Lipnitskaia, their Mercedes will come complete with a driver.
