This is a very rare 1984 Mercedes Euro 300TD Turbo Diesel Station Wagon that I pulled out of a barn in New Hampshire a decade ago ,The correct vin # is WBD1231931F014848, Ebay would not allow the Euro vin #, the one in the description is for the parts car included in this auction, The European models came very basic, manual windows, manual sunroof and manual heater controls (no climate control) cloth seats and It did have the optional  inside remote dash controlled headlights from the factory, the original headlights are long gone but the switch and everything else is still intact and I have seen the correct Euro lights here on Ebay, it also has a rare factory safety net and cargo cover and luggage bars for the roof rack and A/C, you can still see the "Partical filter" adapter required in Europe on the exhaust next to the turbo. You can see in the pics also the rare "red" reverse light on the drivers side for  Euro models only and it also has the original spare tire, I did have this car running when I first bought it, every thing worked including the hydraulic rear suspension but the engine had a knock due to lack of oil. I started removing the engine but have run out of time, everything under the hood has been disconnected, the only thing holding the motor in now is the motor mounts and bell housing bolts, this is a VERY clean car, the only rust it has it what you see in the pics with the exception of a small hole on the drivers side rear floor, it has some small dents as can be seen in the pics and I have a collection of NOS Euro parts that goes with it also, Bumper ends Ect...Also included in this Auction is a 1983 parts car with a low miladge engine (the green station wagon) This car was my daily driver for many years, the previous owner had told me it had a rebuilt motor but had lost the documents, so as a mechanic for the past 30 years I installed a new timing chain, guides, seals, gaskets and injectors just for precaution, while doing so I found "heat tabs" on the motor which many rebuilders use for warranty purposes, unfortunately a few thousand miles later the transmission went and I discovered the frame was too rotted and decided to put this motor in the silver car but have run out of time and have no place to do it. the green car has 171000 on the clock and drove like it was new, the car still starts right up and runs great but only has reverse and has been sitting for many years, do not even think about fixing the green one as it has very rusty frame and floors and is no longer road worthy but does have a brand new stainless engine pipe and muffler and tail pipe, and it does have a very clean off white interior, Feel free to make me an offer on the Silver Euro wagon if you have a motor or the package but I will not sell the motor in the green car until the silver one has been sold, the motor in the green car is worth the starting bid of the two cars alone, these are special engines for the station wagons because they have the hydraulic pumps mounted on the head that operate the rear suspension that the sedans do not. I can Email more pics if you like, This auction is for the two cars as a package or I can remove the motor out of the green one for the high bidder if they like for the same price minuse the parts car, Please feel free to come look at these cars anytime before you bid, they are located at 2982 Route 9 Cold Spring NY 10516,  6 miles south of Exit 13 off Interstate 84 on U.S. Route 9 on the east side of the Hudson River, feel free to tex or call me at 845-490-8998, thanks Casey.... Make sure you click on the "see other items" link on the right hand side of this page to view other parts I have for sale on Ebay, International bidders please keep in mind both of these vehicles must be towed, they do not move under their own power so please keep this in mind for your shipper....

Race recap: 2016 Monaco Grand Prix gets very wet, a little wild

Mon, May 30 2016

More than at any other race, the Monaco Grand Prix question is: which combination of demolition derby, Safety Cars, and bad pit strategy will decide the podium? Last year Lewis Hamilton's late, confounding pit stop cost him victory. The year before, Nico Rosberg's qualifying "mistake" put him on pole and Mercedes-AMG Petronas' pit strategy sealed his win – good for Nico, bad for Hamilton and the rest of the field. In 2013 Hamilton dropped from second to fourth when he lollygagged in the pits. In all three years, Rosberg won. The new X factor for 2016: a Red Bull resurgence that helped Daniel Ricciardo clinch his first career pole. Nevertheless, bad pit strategy had its say in the results. Ricciardo built up a 13-second lead by Lap 15 in spite of heavy rains that forced the Safety Car to lead the first eight laps of the race. Ricciardo stopped on Lap 23 to switch to intermediate tires for the drying track, ceding the lead to Hamilton. Hamilton pitted from the lead on Lap 31 for softs, then Red Bull pulled Ricciardo in again on Lap 32 and made a snap decision to put him on ultra softs, but the tires weren't ready when Ricciardo reached his pit box. What should have been a three-second pit stop turned into a 13.6-second pit stop. Ricciardo left the pits as Hamilton came down the straight and the Aussie lost the lead into the first corner. Despite two attempts to pass later in the race, Hamilton finished first, the Aussie second. It's the second race in a row where pit strategy cost Ricciardo a near-certain win. Conversely, Force India nailed both tire strategy and pit timing with Sergio Perez. The Mexican started in eighth but got into third before half the race was done, passing four cars in the pits, and finished on the podium's final step. Otherwise the order barely changed from about half distance, with Ferrari driver Sebatian Vettel in fourth, followed by Fernando Alonso in the McLaren, Nico Hulkenberg in the second Force India, Rosberg in the second Mercedes, Carlos Sainz for Toro Rosso, Jenson Button in the second McLaren, and Felipe Massa taking the final point for tenth for Williams. Storms didn't only hover over the area, though – dark clouds hung around several teams and drivers. Mercedes' reliability is no longer so reliable. The Silver Arrows suffered engine issues on both cars in qualifying, and Hamilton's problem almost kept him from setting a time in Q3.

Mercedes-Benz working on S-Class EV in accelerated green car lineup?

Mon, Mar 10 2014

With Mercedes-Benz bringing out coupe and plug-in hybrid versions of its S-Class sedan, the German automaker just may follow through with a battery-electric variant as well. That's what the company's Uwe Ernstberger told the folks at Top Gear during the Geneva Motor Show. And while he noted the company still needs to work in a larger-than-usual battery pack and was less than specific with details, he did envision an all-electric S-Class "in the future." Of course, rumors started bubbling about an EV S-Class as far back as 2011, so we'll see. Christian Bokich, department manager for product and technology communications for Mercedes-Benz USA, would not confirm anything about an electric S-Class, but he did give AutoblogGreen an official rundown of MB's upcoming green cars in the US, starting with the launch of the all-electric B-Class ED in July of this year in the ZEV states (launch details for other states are TBA, he said). An S-Class plug-in hybrid is coming in the first half of 2015, followed by a C-Class PHEV closer towards the end of that year in the USA. There is also a C-Class four-cylinder BlueTEC coming at some point in 2016. Until we get more concrete information about the possible S-Class EV, let's review what we know about the PHEV. Last September, Mercedes-Benz started showing off the plug-in hybrid S-Class, saying that it could go as far as 19 miles on electric power alone and had a preliminary fuel efficiency rating of more than 78 miles per gallon, using the more lenient European driving cycle. Earlier this week, Mercedes showed off its S-Class Coupe. That model's US version will have a twin-turbocharged V8 that kicks in 449 horsepower, a few more than the presumptive S-Class EV will have. Ernstberger also said Mercedes would join the ranks of automakers offering autonomous driving systems and mentioned the S-Class as being at the "top of the movement." He held his tongue when asked about the possibility of an S-Class cabriolet.

Daimler CEO says nobody is making money on EVs right now

Wed, Nov 5 2014

What do you charge for a vehicle you're going to lose money on? If you're Mercedes-Benz and the vehicle in question is the B-Class Electric Drive, you offer it for lease for just 399 euros ($498) a month with a down payment of 8,473 euros ($10,582). If Daimler was going to price it honestly, it seems, the number would have to be a lot higher. "Nobody today is making a battery-powered vehicle that's economically viable." – Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche That's according to Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche, who spoke to reporters in Spain recently and said that, "You can reasonably say that nobody today is making a battery-powered vehicle that's economically viable in its own right. Manufacturers will not see a return within a reasonable time on the billions they're investing now." There are ways to make money in EVs, of course. Just ask Daimler, which recently sold its stake in Tesla for a cool $780 million. Zetsche has some EV-critical company in executives like Fiat Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne, who has said his company loses over $10,000 on each Fiat 500E it sells. Other automakers – e.g., Tesla, Nissan – are much more positive about their financial bet on EVs, but no one is opening all their books to the public to prove this. Tesla, which worked with Mercedes on the B-Class ED, will have an earnings call with investors later today, so perhaps we'll learn something new in a few hours. The B-Class ED lease deal is for 36 months, based on an MSRP of 39,151 euros ($48,895) in Europe, including the 19 percent VAT. You can read more in the press release below. Commercial release of Mercedes-Benz B-Class Electric Drive: Local emission-free driving from ˆ399/month Stuttgart, Nov 03, 2014 With its high-torque electric motor, the B-Class Electric Drive delivers lively and superior driving pleasure – with zero local emissions. The B-Class Electric Drive is now available to order, with deliveries set to start before the end of 2014. Prices start at ˆ39,151[1]. The B-Class Electric Drive can be leased through the Mercedes-Benz Bank from ˆ399 a month[2]. Further information on the full range of tailor-made leasing and financing offers as well as specific pricing examples are available at http://www.mercedes-benz-bank.de. Quiet and local emission-free driving is ensured by a 132 kW electric motor, which, as is typical of an electric drive, delivers its maximum torque of 340 Nm right from the start. The result is noticeably powerful acceleration from rest.
