1984 MERCEDES 300 SD

TURBO DIESEL

ONE OF THE LAST OF THE W126 BODY STYLE EVER MADE WITH THE INDESTRUCTIBLE OM615 3.0 LITER 6 CYLINDER DIESEL ENGINE!

CAR HAS JUST OVER 114,000 MILES
NO RESERVE

This is a PRIVATE SALE.

The car runs excellent- at 114k miles its not even broken in yet!
The engine runs as new, the transmission shifts fine
The turbo works really well too.
The vehicle is loaded with all the options of its time-
power windows, power (vacuum) locks, stock becker am/fm/tape radio installed
a/c, cruise control, power sliding roof, power front seats etc...

the car was bought by my uncle several years ago, he loves the big W126 body style benz but it was never really driven.

i know the car since many years ago, its a very nice riding car. He started it up occasionally and drove it sparingly.
as with any 30 year old car it will need a few things-
the right rear window regulator needs to be replaced.
im pretty sure the left rear window was fine but its missing the button in the back. the window switches in the center console could also be defective. Switches are real cheap to buy here.
the front windows work, the sunroof works
the radio does not work- i have yet to see an original becker stereo of this vintage working!
you can have them repaired still.
the blower motor does not work, probably from sitting. it was working 3-4 years ago when he bought it. it could also be a fuse, honestly not sure.
i remember the A/C was also working.
the belts look older, i would have those replaced
the body has no rust, thats to be expected from a southern car
clear coat peel on hood and trunk areas, to be expected from a southern car too!
i would have the fuel filters replaced and do an oil change.
the tires still look very good all around.
the brakes feel good but the brake pad wear light is on.
the interior is excellent for the age.
odometer broke in the last hundred miles, there's a gear you can get here (or FCP groton) and replace easily. Over time, the plastic gets brittle and cracks.

On most of the W126 body the rear seat cushion/padding becomes "deflated". This one had the padding of the rear seats restored about 10 years ago.

The things this car needs are relatively minimal, common routine maintenance. all the parts are inexpensive and the car is easy to repair, that's why people including us love these cars!

we are a family of W123 , W124, and W126 body mercedes diesel addicts.
we have another W126 in the yard for parts but my uncle never had a chance to get it fixed.

many people also convert these to run on WVO (vegetable oil), you can also run waste engine oil in these if you mix it. we have one of the more expensive WVO kits if thats your plan we can work something out too with that....

If you want anything repaired before you get the car, at your cost, we are glad to assist. Just let us know!

Test drive the Mercedes SLS AMG Electric Drive with Chris Harris

Thu, 11 Apr 2013

It's hard to not like the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT. The all-aluminum coupe is fitted with a wonderful naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8 delivering 583 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. Not only does the burly combustion engine launch the two-seater to 60 miles per hour in less than four seconds, but it does so with one of the world's greatest exhaust soundtracks as it roars, burbles and cackles down the road.
But what happens when Mercedes-Benz takes away the V8 and its accompanying fire-burning song? Stripped of one of its most appealing assets, does the SLS lose its soul?
Chris Harris recently had the opportunity to take the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Electric Drive for a track spin in Europe. Sans gasoline, but with four electric motors providing a combined 740 horsepower (737 pound-feet of torque), all-electric all-wheel drive coupe uses sophisticated torque vectoring and a multi-mode operating system to put oversteer - drifting! - back into the equation. Fun? You bet. See for yourself, below.

Best car infotainment systems: From UConnect to MBUX, these are our favorites

Sun, Jan 7 2024

Declaring one infotainment system the best over any other is an inherently subjective matter. You can look at quantitative testing for things like input response time and various screen load times, but ask a room full of people that have tried all car infotainment systems what their favorite is, and you’re likely to get a lot of different responses. For the most part, the various infotainment systems available all share a similar purpose. They aim to help the driver get where they're going with navigation, play their favorite tunes via all sorts of media playback options and allow folks to stay connected with others via phone connectivity. Of course, most go way beyond the basics these days and offer features like streaming services, in-car performance data and much more. Unique features are aplenty when you start diving through menus, but how they go about their most important tasks vary widely. Some of our editors prefer systems that are exclusively touch-based and chock full of boundary-pushing features. Others may prefer a back-to-basics non-touch system that is navigable via a scroll wheel. You can compare it to the phone operating system wars. Just like some prefer Android phones over iPhones, we all have our own opinions for what makes up the best infotainment interface. All that said, our combined experience tells us that a number of infotainment systems are at least better than the rest. WeÂ’ve narrowed it down to five total systems in their own subcategories that stand out to us. Read on below to see our picks, and feel free to make your own arguments in the comments. Best infotainment overall: UConnect 5, various Stellantis products Ram 1500 Uconnect Infotainment System Review If thereÂ’s one infotainment system that all of us agree is excellent, itÂ’s UConnect. It has numerous qualities that make it great, but above all else, UConnect is simple and straightforward to use. Ease of operation is one of the most (if not the single most) vital parts of any infotainment system interface. If youÂ’re expected to be able to tap away on a touchscreen while driving and still pay attention to the road, a complex infotainment system is going to remove your attention from the number one task at hand: driving. UConnect uses a simple interface that puts all of your key functions in a clearly-represented row on the bottom of the screen. Tap any of them, and it instantly pulls up that menu.

Range Rover versus Mercedes-Benz: Which makes a more appealing SUV?

Mon, Aug 14 2017

From time to time — truth be told, all the time — the Autoblog staff enjoys a good debate on the merits and demerits of the cars and trucks we drive each week. This week, we spent some time in a brand-new Land Rover Range Rover Supercharged SUV, a model some of us think sits at the pinnacle of the luxury utility vehicle segment. Others disagree. The following is a real-life online debate that took place over the course of a few hours. Have a read, and feel free to take sides. There's a poll at the end so you can make your voice heard. Consumer Editor Jeremy Korzeniewski: Strange as it may sound, Jeremy Clarkson and I have a few things in common, most obvious of which is that we share a given name. But we also both love cars so much that we decided to turn our automotive passion into a career — with varying degrees of success, of course — and we both have come to realize over time that there's no point in trying to topple the Land Rover Range Rover as the world's best luxury off-road utility vehicle. Thing is, this universal truth isn't quite as universally shared as I think it should be. In fact, my esteemed colleague Alex Kierstein believes that Mercedes-Benz makes the most desirable four-wheel-drive off-road vehicles. He's clearly wrong, but I feel obligated to let him explain his choice, though it won't go without a rebuttal. Senior Editor Alex Kierstein: That's correct, and so am I in this regard. I'm sorry, Jeremy, but it's an irrefutable fact that Mercedes-Benz is doing the best interiors in the business now. And the interior is where you're going to spend most of your time, at least when the thing's running. The Range Rover's interior simply isn't as special, and frankly it'll be in the shop enough that you won't enjoy it. Now, stepping into pretty much any contemporary Mercedes sedan interior is a "wow" moment. They seem special — posh, exclusive, luxurious. The SUVs, all older vehicles coming due for total redesigns at some point in the future, are lagging a bit, but it's still a premium and upscale experience. Especially since performance is almost academic at this point. Anything in this class is going to be powerful, almost absurdly so. So why not go for the one that makes you feel like royalty, rather than your mechanic? JK: I just want to point out that it was you who brought reliability into this discussion.
