1983 Mercedes-benz 300sd Turbo Diesel on 2040-cars
North Richland Hills, Texas, United States
Up for auction is a 1983 Mercedes Benz 300SD W126 sedan equipped with the very reliable 3.0L 5 cylinder turbo diesel engine. Vehicle is a Texas car purchased new in Dallas on 12-23-1982 (as per maintenance booklet). I have had the vehicle since July of 2013 and got it to tinker around with. I purchased a new car and now need more room in the garage. I have driven the car around 1000miles and cleaned it up and fixed some of the issues while I have had it. Car runs and drives well. I drove it from DFW to Austin and back in November with no problems. Car drives straight and does not pull to left or right. Car has 176,000 miles and still has more to go as these vehicles can go 300 to 400K miles. Car does not burn oil or leak a drop of oil. Engine oil level has not gone down in the 1000 miles I have driven it and has been in my garage since last July with not a drop on the floor. Paint on this car is fairly good and still has some shine. There is a dent repair on the driver rear door that the paint color does not match well and there could have been some other body panel touchups or damage repair done in the last 30 years but overall the paint looks ok. There is a very small bit of surface rust on the top edge of the driver door frame and a couple of spots below the rear window but nothing underneath at all. Looks like some water may have gotten into the trunk area but I have had the car in the garage and I haven't had an issue with it and not sure of its source. Dash is not cracked and seats are not torn. Overall the car looks good and this color combination is not too common and is one of the reasons I picked it up. Here are some of the things I have done to the vehicle: All interior lights replaced with LED bulbs. Also replaced the instrument cluster lighting with LEDs. All 4 new tires in Nov of 2013, about 500miles on them New Car stereo with all 4 new speakers. it is a CD/MP3 player and also has HD Radio with remote control. Power antenna works fine. New A/C compressor and filter drier recharged with R12. Performed oil change at 175K and replaced all oil, fuel, and air filters. Install new engine fan clutch. Install new ignition key tumbler. Installed new speedometer gears. Note: speedometer was making some noise and gears were in bad shape. Installed new gears but there is still a slight ticking noise. Here is some of the issues that may need addressed: Sunroof opens and closes but runs a little slow sometimes and may need some lubrication Drivers rear window doesn't function properly. motor runs but the window doesn't go down. Other windows ok. Drivers door handle is loose but still opens fine so I haven't replaced it. Cruise control doesn't work. I had the amplifier module reworked and tested and its ok so issue is elsewhere. Central locking system sometimes doesn't lock one of the back doors. A/C and heat work fine but sometimes the blower doesn't come on and you have to turn the fan switch on and off a couple of times to get it to come on. Belt for AC makes some noise at idle but goes away while driving. the belt is new and feels tight but just wanted to mention it. This car has been very reliable and I would not hesitate to drive it on a long drive. All safety items work as they should, lights, signals, washer and wipers, parking brake, etc. Car is not perfect as can be expected for a 31 year old car with 176K but still has lots of miles left. Please ask all questions before bidding and I will be happy to answer them. Will sell only to United States. No international bidders please. Thank you for looking!! |

The first trailer for Top Gear's 24th season shows a hands-free drag race
Tue, Dec 27 2016In the excitement over Amazon's new motoring show, it's important to remember that there's a certain series from the BBC that's attempting to get its mojo back for a 24th season. Yes, we're talking about Top Gear. Since Chris Evans' departure earlier this year, Top Gear news has been relatively sparse, particularly as The Grand Tour and its hosts Jeremy Clarkson, James May, and Richard Hammond seized headlines. But on Christmas, watchers of the series' YouTube channel caught a glimpse of the first scene from the next season. Featuring hosts Matt LeBlanc, Chris Harris, and Rory Reid in what looks like a trio of old, dilapidated cars. We're thinking TG is running a taxi comparison. There's a London black cab and a Mercedes-Benz W210 – a favorite of European cabbies – but we aren't sure where Harris' boxy wagon fits in. Did the Volvo 850 Estate ever serve as a livery vehicle? But it's the basis for this comparison that's weird, because the hosts appear to be having a no-hands drag race. The cars veer off in different directions, traveling across what looks like a snow-covered dirt lot. We're assuming hilarity ensues. And while we don't quite know what they're hoping to accomplish, we are looking forward to watching it go down. Top Gear's 24th season doesn't have an official air date, and the video ends only with a cryptic "Coming Soon." Expect to hear more in the next few months.

Race recap: 2016 Hungarian Grand Prix was the pits
Mon, Jul 25 2016The Hungarian Grand Prix hasn't seen a race this calculated since 2012, when Lewis Hamilton – driving for McLaren – led from pole position to the checkered flag. We don't expect massive action from the Hungaroring, but Hamilton's first win for Mercedes in 2013, the thrilling wet mess in 2014, and Ferrari's surprising dominance in 2015 made us hope for more on-track commotion this year. Hungary denied us that. Hamilton parked his Mercedes-AMG Petronas in second on the grid but stole the lead through Turn 1 and never looked back. Teammate Nico Rosberg yo-yoed behind him in second place, getting into DRS range on a few occasions but never close enough to pass. Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo kept the leading duo honest, but the Aussie couldn't put genuine fear into the German team and finished third. This is the third year in a row for Ricciardo on the Hungary podium. The pits provided our few scraps of excitement. During a stretch when Ricciardo managed to close on Rosberg, Mercedes told Hamilton to speed up. When Hamilton said he couldn't go faster, Mercedes said they'd pit second-place Rosberg first instead. Suddenly, Hamilton found the extra pace. Ricciardo pitted in early, hoping that fresh tires and fast laps could allow him to pass one or both Mercedes drivers when they pitted, but once Hamilton hit the throttle the Red Bull couldn't respond. Further down the lineup, Jenson Button came in on Lap 5 so McLaren could fix his brake pedal problem. The radio exchange before the stop included one forbidden instruction to Button, though, so the Englishman had to return to the pits for a drive-through penalty. Renault's Jolyon Palmer beat Force India's Nico Hulkenberg in a straight-up pit stop battle on Lap 40, but threw the good work away on Lap 49 with a spin on track that cost him three places. A pit wall miscommunication meant the Force India pit crew wasn't ready for Sergio Perez when the Mexican arrived for his second stop on Lap 43. And Daniel Kvyat's regrettable run at Toro Rosso continued, first with car issues, then a drive-through penalty for speeding in the pit lane. Sebastian Vettel brought his Ferrari home fourth, sniffing Ricciardo's gearbox at the flag but unable to get around the Red Bull. Max Verstappen enacted a replay of the final stages of the Spanish Grand Prix, finishing fifth by holding Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen behind for 19 laps.
