1983 Mercedes 300d Euro 5-speed Getrag Grey Market Car on 2040-cars
Santa Fe, New Mexico, United States
Greetings. This 300D Euro spent 10 years in outdoor storage at a ranch here in New Mexico. I've spent the last several months going through it carefully. Fuel system purge, all fluids and filters changed. Oil was changed at initial start up, then 400 miles, switched to full synthetic at 1K miles and then just two days ago at 2.4K miles. Hengst, Mann filters. MBZ Power Steering Fluid. Chevron Delo Full Synthetic. Michelin Defender's installed 800 miles ago on euro-spec alloy wheels (11.5lbs less than steel). New Hi-Fly spare also installed on alloy mbz wheel. All shocks replaced with Boge/Sachs HD. New Lemforder rear sway links. New MBZ trans mount. Like new Behr radiator (was used for one year intermittently). Radiator changed because car began to run warm, not hot, no overheating at all-preventative maintenance. New Behr thermostat. Like new multi-switch-firm and accurate mechanicals. 2.5 year old MBZ Diesel battery. Brake and clutch system fluid replaced, brakes working fine. Parking brake works fine. Headlight vacuum adjust was not hooked up so I ran the vacuum lines and got them working, very nice feature. I attempted to configure the 'city-lights' to function but was not successful, so they are not wired in circuit. Becker Kourier radio working well, stock speakers working. Sunroof brought back to life carefully, cleaned and greased rails with MBZ sunroof grease, ran it back and forth a few times and then repeated the process. The sunroof is working now but sometimes needs help to fully close. Windshield wipers replaced two days ago-Bosch, sprayer works great, all good. Clutch slave cylinder replaced few weeks ago (F.A.G.). Clutch release bearing started to rattle about three weeks ago, otherwise clutch is working great, no slipping ever, no grinding ever. Manual idle adjust working well, starts first try every time. Minimal blow-by. I believe the injector nozzles should be replaced because of brief white smoke at start up after sitting overnight and the idle is not very smooth. Motor has good power, holds well up grades, does not get hot. Oil pressure has never gone below 1.8, even after 91 degree afternoon highway travel. Odometer not working, began to work first time driving and then gave up at 3/10 mile. I've rebuilt a few of these W123 odometers, not a tough job, but I am out of time, moving back to Hawaii soon.
For a few months I drove this car from Taos to Santa Fe almost weekly, 200 mile round trip, some grades, some 90+ degree afternoons, never had a problem or any 'uh-oh' moments. That said, this is a 31 year old car and it has not been completely rebuilt so there will likely be more work required. When in storage outdoors the car cover finally gave out and was loose, wearing off some paint on the roof and hood. The car needs a new coat of paint. This is a rare model of W123 because of the 5-speed Getrag trans, Euro Bosch vacuum headlights, smaller bumpers and M-pump. Also, No A/C, No cruise control. Manual windows all work properly. Power door locks disabled. Three of the door checks have been removed because they were not functioning properly anymore. Overhead light works in 'on' position but not when door is opened. I'd planned on completely restoring this car for my personal use and have taken great care in the work I've done. 13 years experience owning and repairing these vehicles. Several years as an independent mechanic, personal references. Move forces sale. Clear open Montana title. Local pick-up welcome. I am willing to drive to Albuquerque if necessary for transporting the car via shipper. $500 deposit via paypal due at purchase. Cash balance at pick-up or bank transfer otherwise. Please call with any questions. |

2016 Mercedes-AMG GLE63 S Coupe 4Matic brings big power to go with massive name
Mon, Jan 12 2015Mercedes-Benz hopped into the luxury crossover coupe market with both feet with the recently debuted GLE-Class Coupe. While the existence of beauty in this segment is still up for debate, the Merc really gives the BMW X6 a direct competitor. With the newly unveiled 2016 Mercedes-AMG GLE63 S Coupe 4Matic, the engineers from Affalterbach are now also turning their sights on their rivals from BMW's M division. Don't let the name fool you. The GLE63 AMG Coupe eschews the twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 from the C63 AMG in favor of an even bigger power source. This crossover uses the company's thundering 5.5-liter twin-turbocharged V8 with stop/start that pumps out 577 horsepower and 561 pound-feet of torque – 10 hp and 8 lb-ft more than the X6 M. The deep well of muscle means the sprint to 62 miles per hour takes just 4.2 seconds; faster than you can say the coupe's mile-long official name. The AMG Speedshift Plus 7G-Tronic seven-speed automatic gearbox routes all of that grunt to all four wheels with a 40:60 front/rear split. The styling of this beast gets a special nod from AMG by being the first CUV from the company to get its A-wing grille. Even if the rest of the design can be polarizing, this portion looks fantastic. The airfoil in the bumper is supposed to look like a stylized A, and from some angles, the wing almost appears like its just floating there. Each side of the GLE63 features black wheel arch flares, and around back there's a small lip spoiler on the tailgate. It's complimented by a new rear apron that has air outlets at each corner, integrated tailpipes and a diffuser in the center. Being a Mercedes-AMG, buyers sit in the lap of luxury inside. The seats are covered in Nappa leather with AMG crests on the headrests. The performance brand's moniker can also be found on the three-spoke steering wheel, and the instrument panel even gets covered in black Nappa. Obviously, if this isn't enough for potential buyers, Mercedes has a ton of options on hand. They include performance-oriented items like a sport exhaust system, 22-inch wheels and carbon fiber engine cover, but there're also more opulent choices like the fragrance mister and a high-end Bang & Olufson sound system. Scroll down for all the details on the much more powerful GLE Coupe. The new Mercedes-AMG GLE63 S Coupe 4MATIC Driving performance reinterpreted Affalterbach/Detroit.
Mercedes calling in CLS, E-Class over rubber seal fire risk
Mon, Feb 23 2015Mercedes-Benz has discovered a problem with certain E-Class and CLS-Class models and has notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration of a recall it's undertaking to resolve the issue. The problem is with the rubber seal at the back of the engine bay, which according to the statement below "may temporarily stick to the hood when it is opened and then may fall into the engine bay when the hood is closed." If it then comes into contact with the exhaust system, it could start a fire. And fires in the engine bay are never a good thing, unless they're contained entirely within the combustion chamber. The issue affects an estimated total of 147,224 E-Class and CLS-Class vehicles, all told, across America – including four-doors, wagons, hybrids and AMG performance models (but no E-Class coupes or convertibles) from the 2013-15 model years. To fix the problem, Benz dealers will simply need to attach four additional clips to keep the seal in place, and will start doing so midway through next month. RECALL Subject : Rubber Seal may Dislodge and Contact Exhaust Report Receipt Date: FEB 13, 2015 NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V088000 Component(s): STRUCTURE Potential Number of Units Affected: 147,224 Manufacturer: Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC. SUMMARY: Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC. (MBUSA) is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 E350 Sedan, E350 4Matic Sedan, E350 4Matic Station Wagon, E400 Hybrid Sedan, CLS 550 CGI, and CLS550 4Matic, 2013-2014 E550 4Matic Sedan, 2013 E63 Sedan, E63 Station Wagon and CLS63, 2014-2015 CLS63 4Matic, E63 4Matic Sedan, E63 4Matic Sedan "S", and E63 4Matic Station Wagon, 2015 CLS400, 2015 E400 Sedan, E400 4Matic Sedan and CLS400 4Matic and 2014 CLS63 "S". The affected vehicles have a rubber seal at the back of the engine bay that may temporarily stick to the hood when it is opened and then may fall into the engine bay when the hood is closed. CONSEQUENCE: If the rubber seal falls into the engine compartment, it may contact parts of the exhaust system, increasing the risk of a fire. REMEDY: MBUSA will notify owners, and dealers will attach four additional retaining clips to the rubber seal, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin by mid-March 2015. Owners may contact MBUSA customer service at 1-201-573-5339. MBUSA's number for this recall is 2015020001. NOTES: Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
Carlsson SLK 340 Judd is winged up for hill climb glory
Wed, 06 Mar 2013Carlsson has been expertly tuning Mercedes-Benz products for more than 20 years now, but we can't say as we remember the outfit turning out anything quite so racy as this SLK 340 Judd that it has brought along to the Geneva Motor Show this year.
This SLK is meant for competition, obviously, and Carlsson has already booked the car to race in several hill climb events in the E1 category. The purpose-built racer should have a fighting chance to do well in said races, with a shape vetted in wind tunnel testing for maximum downforce, the SLK uses a carbon-fiber bodyshell to help achieve a curb weight of just about 1,720 pounds.
The featherweight SLK's name comes from its 3.4-liter V8 engine, which churns out a wicked 610 horsepower to go with its 317 pound-feet of torque. A Hewland transmission with paddle shift operation manages all of the thrust.
