Good news first...  this car does not leak any fluids, trans, power steer, brakes, cooling

or engine oil !!  most MBZ diesels do due to the crankcase pressure.  The engine and trans

were installed from a low miles car, the work was done by Enrique at Mr MB motors 5557

Reseda Tarzana, CA. If you check a few MBZ diesel forums you will find great reports on

this shop / mechanic, ie honest and cheap!, see picture of receipt. The turn signals, horn,

windshield wipers, brake lights, euro parking lights all work, the electrical system works

and there is Nothing draining the battery.  I start and drive the car every week approx 5

-10 miles, and have done so the last 4 years. The title is clear with no tickets. The car

will never require a smog check. This car is an excellent choice to convert to 100% WVO

(waste veggie oil), Bio-Fuel etc. The heater / blower work well. No air conditioner or AC.

The upholstery is in great shape.

The car does not overheat.  The car is easy to start. the car drives well. These 80's MBZ Turbo Diesel's are one of the most reliable cars EVER BUILT!

 Here are some Video's
http://youtu.be/gMy7h5k7DS8

 http://youtu.be/I4VGuntGQyE

http://youtu.be/15z8ji1Rlm0

The vintage purple dark window tint is curling and removes with 0% glue residue left

behind, and comes off easily.

The rear window is a new Chinese laminate glass, coupled with a new $100. GERMAN rubber

gasket both should last 25+ years.,  see pictures here http://www.flickr.com/photos/101058104@N08/

The wheels are an aluminum alloy with chrome plating. 2 of those wheels, (now in the

trunk) have dissimilar metal corrosion and leak air, SO I have 2 standard MBZ wheels on the

rear of the car currently.  You get 6 wheels!!  You can have the wheels re chromed, you can

have the chrome removed for a flat aluminum finish perhaps OR go for a polished aluminum

finish, your call.

the sun roof opens and closes and does not leak, see video.

The rear passenger window needs a new

connector from the motors arm to the actual glass, so currently a piece of wood is inserted

into the door to keep the window up,  the upholstered panel and handle are in the trunk.

The drivers side door will not unlock with the current key, this can be fixed perhaps or

re-keyed to match the passanger side lock. All the gauges work, ex speedo, oil, tach except

for the clock, which does turn, yet doesn't keep accurate time, as well as the non

functioning odometer. The electric motor driven antenna does work, however it began to

make a new noise so I cut and electrical taped the overly long wires off to prevent any

damage to it, one is black one white so you can easily reconnect and diagnose the motor.

The cruise control also works.  The car has a new battery.

I will show the car to anyone interested.

I need a $400. pay-pal, non-refundable deposit within 36hrs of auction end and

I need the car picked up / balance paid in cash within 10 days of auction end.  I will

assist in placing the car with a shipping / carrier company, ie I will drive it 35 miles

from my zip of 91606 to a shipper, but you are responsible for all fees associated with

said shipping.

This car is sold as is and there are no returns, refunds or warranty.

Good luck, bid early and often!

Ecclestone wonders if F1's upcoming turbo V6s should get augmented sound [w/videos]

Mon, 08 Apr 2013

While every team on the Formula One grid is worried about making a good showing in this year's championship at the same time as they develop a brand-new car for next year's championship, Bernie Ecclestone and F1 circuit promoters have a different concern: how next year's cars will sound. The current cars use 2.4-liter, naturally-aspirated V8s that can reach 18,000 revolutions per minute and employ dual exhaust, next year's engine formula calls for 1.4-liter turbocharged V6s that are capped at 15,000 rpm and are constrained to a single exhaust outlet. Ecclestone and promoters like Ron Walker believe the new engines sound like lawnmowers and that the less thrilling audio will keep people from coming to races. If Walker's Australian Grand Prix really is shelling out almost $57 million to hold the race, every ticket counts. As a fix, according to a report in Autoweek, Ecclestone "suggests that the only way to guarantee [a good sound] may be to artificially adjust the tone of the V6s."
However, neither the manufacturers nor the governing body of F1, the FIA, think there will be a problem. Ecclestone fears that if the manufacturers "don't get it right" they'll simply leave the sport, but the only three carmakers and engine builders left next year, Renault (its 2014 "power unit" is pictured), Mercedes-Benz and Ferrari are so embedded that it would stretch belief to think they'd leave the table over an audio hiccup - if said hiccup even occurs. And frankly, these issues always precede changes to engine formulas, as they did when the formula switched from V10 to V8; fans, though, are probably less focused on the engines and more on the mandated standardization of the sport and the spec-series overtones that have come with it.
No one knows yet what next year's engines will sound like, but we've assembled a few videos below to help us all start guessing. The first is an engine check on an Eighties-era John Player Special Renault with a 1.5-liter V6 turbo, after that is Ayrton Senna qualifying in 1986 in the Lotus 98T that also had a 1.5-liter V6 turbo, then you'll find a short with a manufactured range of potential V6 engine notes, and then the sound of turbocharged V6 Indycars testing last year at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Any, or none of them, could be Formula One's future.

2015 Italian Grand Prix is smoke, mirrors, stalls, and stewards

Mon, Sep 7 2015

For the first day-and-a-half of the Italian Formula One Grand Prix weekend, everything went to blueprint: Mercedes in front, Ferrari lurking, everyone else scrambling in their usual orders behind. Then qualifying came, and someone stirred the pot. About the only thing we expected was for Lewis Hamilton to put his Mercedes-AMG Petronas on pole position, the 11th time he's done it this year. He did it with a brand-new specification engine, one that represents not only an evolution in components, but also in power unit philosophy. Kimi Raikkonen lines up in second. It's been a long time since we read those words; the Iceman hasn't been on the first row since the 2013 Chinese Grand Prix, when he put his Lotus second on the grid behind... Lewis Hamilton. Raikkonen lined up just ahead of a Ferrari at that China race, then driven by Fernando Alonso. In Italy this weekend, he lined up in front of the Ferrari driven by his teammate, Sebastian Vettel, who qualified third. Both Ferraris benefitted from an upgraded power unit, ending a front-row drought for the scuderia that goes all the way back to Monaco in 2009 Germany in 2012. Nico Rosberg has a lot of work to do from fourth in the second Mercedes-AMG Petronas. Mercedes discovered a problem with Rosberg's engine but couldn't figure out the cause, so he reverted to the previous-spec engine he used in Belgium, one that's six races old. The lack of power hurt. Williams teammates Felipe Massa and Valtteri Bottas took fifth and sixth, with Massa seemingly given a team-ordered helping hand. Williams told Bottas to tow Massa down the front straight, giving Massa a blistering time in the first sector. Then Bottas did it again, ensuring he would line up behind Massa. The first Sahara Force India of Sergio Perez nabbed seventh, three places ahead of teammate Nico Hulkenberg in tenth, with Romain Grosjean in the Lotus behind Perez in eighth. Marcus Ericsson in the Sauber qualified ninth, but some clumsy driving saw him impede Hulkenberg twice. The stewards penalized Ericsson with a three-place grid penalty and two points on his superlicense, so Hulkenberg inherited ninth and Pastor Maldonado in the second Lotus inherited tenth. We hardly saw Hamilton during the race, because he led from the start, worked up a larger gap to second place on every lap, and didn't give up the lead for the whole event.

2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class vs big luxury off-roaders: How they compare on paper

Mon, May 7 2018

During our first drive of the 2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class, the all-new SUV's product manager was asked to identify competitors that might have been benchmarked in its development. The look on his face was about the same as if someone had asked him to recite King Lear in Klingon. As far as Andreas Hoeppel was concerned, the G 550 and AMG G 63 doesn't actually have a rival, or at least something the engineers and designers thought to compare it against. The G-Class is a G-Class, who cares what the other guys are doing? Well, in case you care, we figured we'd plug the new G-Class' specs into the old Autoblog Comparo Generator 3000 (TM) to see how the G 550 and AMG G 63 compare to the Range Rover and its mightiest SVAutobiography Dynamic model, plus the Lexus LX 570 and Bentley Bentayga V8. Frankly, Heir Hoeppel was onto something as each of these is wildly different. But, they do share some common elements: giant size and weight, ultra-lux interiors, and far more off-roading capability than other luxury SUVs offer and any of its owners are likely to ever utilize. Sad. So enjoy this trip down specification lane, and if you're still left hungry, you can always check out our Range Rover comparison or create your very own comparo. Off-Road Clearances and Capability All the fancy off-roading software and special cameras in the world won't do you a lick of good if your SUV is too close to the ground or has low-hanging body work that'll get easily ripped off. As such, check out each of these uber-SUV's ground clearance, approach and departure angles, and wading/fording depths. In this case, the Range Rover has an advantage due to its air suspension that can raise itself into an Off-Roading height that's a whopping 2 inches higher than the new G-Wagen. Sadly for itself, Lexus only provides figures for its air suspension when in normal height. It could match or surpass the Range Rover for all we know (but doubt it). As Land Rover does provide figures for the Range Rover's approach and departure angles in normal and Off-Road height, you can get an idea of just how much clearance the new G-Wagen has without any fancy (and expensive to fix) raising and lowering air suspension hardware. In fact, its departure angle is better than even the Range Rover's Off-Road height. Bentley doesn't provide any such information despite touting the Bentayga's surprising off-roading talents.
