1982 Mercedes 300D Turbo Diesel
-affectionately called 'The Turd' by my kids -automatic -178K original miles (odometer works) -manganese brown exterior -palomino MB Tex interior -power steering -power brakes -power windows (all work) -electric sunroof (works) -original Becker Mexico AM/FM Cassette radio (works) -rear defroster -climate control (heat works well, AC is temperamental and currently not working) -brakes have ~18K since replacement -clear title in hand -no smog required (in CA) -please note the high mileage badge is awarded 250K kilometers, not miles (approximately 155K miles) new in last 16K miles (I have paperwork): - complete exhaust system - 4 shocks - 2 tires - engine mounts/shocks - fuel system hoses (viton) which allows vehicle to run on Biodiesel, though I've use regular diesel 90% of the time I've owned it - brake lines - driver's seat restuffed - for 30+ year old car, looks great issues: - cruise control does not work - power locks do not work - has an oil leak (leaks when engine is warm, not when cold) - right front fog light is broken - driver's seat bolster has a tear in top vinyl layer (doesn't go all the way through). See picture. - driver's side door key hole is finicky I've owned the car for ~3.5 years and commuted from Oakland to Redwood City 2x/wk with it for about 2 years. We moved and it has been sitting in my driveway unused, so time to sell it. Will be sad to see it go. You are welcome to have the car inspected. Mercedes-Benz intros long-wheelbase E-Class for China
Thu, 25 Apr 2013Long-wheelbase sedans are a pretty hot commodity in China, and to keep up with the competition, Mercedes-Benz has introduced an extended version of the 2014 E-Class sedan at the Shanghai Motor Show. Audi, BMW, Volvo and even Cadillac offer extended versions of sedans specific to the Chinese market, and now the E-Class L, shown off in E400L guise, will give luxury sedan buyers in China yet another option.
Compared to the standard 2014 E-Class sedan, the new China-spec E-Class L has been stretched by 5.5 inches - all of which goes to the rear-seat passengers. According to an article on China View from earlier in the year, the market for chauffeur-driven cars is growing in the Asian nation, so automakers need long-wheelbase models like the E-Class L in order to fully compete. As for what powers this stretched E-Class, it's available in three models: the diesel E260L, the V6-powered E300L and the E400 Hybrid.
The redesigned E-Class and the all-new A-Class are just the first of 20 new Mercedes-Benz products that will be introduced into the Chinese auto market by 2015. Scroll down for the full press release on long-wheelbase E.
Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton buys LaFerrari
Tue, Mar 24 2015Lewis Hamilton has driven some of the fastest cars ever devised, like the McLaren MP4-23 with which he won the 2008 Formula One World Championship, the Mercedes W05 with which he won the title last year, and the new W06 he drove to the checkered flag in the season opener earlier this month. But what does he drive in his spare time? According to the latest reports quoting his boss Toto Wolff, the reigning champ celebrated his win at the Australian Grand Prix by ordering a new LaFerrari. The seven-figure, 950-horsepower hybrid hypercar may be made by a rival manufacturer to the team for which he drives, but then his employers at Mercedes don't (for the time being at least) build anything that competes in the segment – unlike his former employers at McLaren that offer the similarly potent P1. Something tells us he won't be invited to drive it at Fiorano, though - which is something his rivals Fernando Alonso, Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel have all had the chance to do. Hamilton has a long-established penchant for driving twelve-cylinder exotic supercars in his spare time. At his previous place of work, he was promised an exceedingly rare McLaren F1 LM – valued at some $4 million – but only if he won three world titles for the Woking-based team. He also owns a Pagani Zonda that was made specifically for him with a 760-horsepower engine (supplied, naturally, by Mercedes) and a six-speed manual – complete with a clutch pedal, which (apart from starting off the line) is something he doesn't usually get to operate during working hours.
