1981 Mercedes Benz 300td Turbo Diesel Station Wagon, From My Classic Collection on 2040-cars
Whiteville, North Carolina, United States
You are bidding on a 1981 Mercedes Benz Station Wagon located in Whiteville NC 28472. This is a well kept Turbo Diesel with 258,400 miles which is low miles for the age of this Mercedes and relatively low miles for a Turbo Diesel engine. It has the 6 cyl engine with automatic Transmission. It also has new Michelin tires. This is a good driving car that still has the comfort of a Mercedes that shows the NADA as $6500. As you see in the pictures, it has the roof rails with a the sun roof. It has nice tan seats that are in great shape for an '81. The light green paint is good though it does has a few scratches which I'm sure most could be buffed out. I purchased the car from a pastor who purchased it in 1982. I am the 3rd owner. The shocks were recently replaced on the lift gate. The carpet is in good shape but has some fading. The dash also has some minor cracks. The A/C did not work when I purchased the car but all components are still there. I have never had the A/C diagnosed. This is a solid Classic Mercedes that has been garage kept most of it's life. It would make a great everyday driver or great restored show car with a small additional investment. I have owned the car for about a year but now have retired and decided down size my collection which includes: 1978 Jeep CJ 7 Golden Eagle, A completely restored 1964 Chevy Impala Convertible and 1976 Farm All 140 Tractor. EVO "2012 Car of the Year: The Track Battles" is a sports car salmagundi
Sun, 25 Nov 2012EVO has come out with another gotta-watch-it video, throwing its 2012 Car of the Year contestants around the UK's 1.5-mile Blyton Park track. It's actually a 15-minute teaser for the full-length DVD detailing the magazine's Car of the Year selection, but the tease is worth every penny free second.
Tiff Needell and sports car racer Richard Meaden handle the wheel duties, the two driving five pairs of sports cars: Lotus Exige S vs. Porsche Boxster S, Morgan Three-Wheeler vs. Toyota GT86, BMW M135i vs. Porsche 911, Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Black Series vs. Alpina B3 GT3, the marquee event pits the McLaren MP4-12C vs. the Pagani Huayra. After a head-to-head lap with commentary during drifts, Meaden takes each car out to set a representative lap time.
You'll find the verdicts, lots of tire smoke, and lines like "Anything you can do sideways I can do sideways" in the video below.
Clark Gable's 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing doesn't sell, then does sell for $1.85 million [UPDATE: w/video]
Sat, 19 Jan 2013How much extra value does previous celebrity ownership add to of a car? Really, there's no way to know until the car in question hits the auction block and bidders start raising their hands. In the case of the 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing you see above, the celebrity owner is none other than Clark Gable, who purchased it new. After Gable's death in 1960, the car changed hands a few times before settling with Charles Wood in 1975.
A high-dollar restoration was performed in 1989, and period accessories added by Gable himself were kept in place, including the Rudge knock-off wheels and Nardi steering wheel. Any Mercedes-Benz 300SL is worth a big chunk of money. In the case of Clark Gable's old Gullwing, the bidding stalled at $1.9 million here at the 2013 Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale. As one of the 5000-series cars, this 300SL carried a reserve, and a bit of after-the-fact dealmaking saw the car change hands for $1.85 million.

Mercedes working on new inline-six engines
Mon, 11 Nov 2013Mercedes-Benz will make a return to the inline-six-cylinder engine game, according to a report from the UK's AutoCar. It's not clear what's prompting the phasing out of the current array of V6s.
We'll see the first inline-six from Mercedes in next-generation E-Class, set to debut in 2016. Following that, it'll arrive as part of a mid-cycle refresh for the C-Class in 2017. What's particularly special about the new inline-six is its modular nature, which will allow Mercedes to eventually spinoff three- and four-cylinder options, with the three-pot arriving alongside the new inline-six.
In other news, AutoCar uncovered some details on the next C-Class AMG, which will ditch its excellent 6.2-liter, AMG V8 in favor of a 4.0-liter, twin-turbocharged V8, although we've already told you about that. What we didn't know at the time, though, was that the 4.0-liter would be paired first with a new, seven-speed AMG Speedshift transmission and offer all-wheel drive. AC also reports that a nine-speed Speedshift is in the works.
