Yes, I put another 1000 miles on the old girl since the last listing, and lowered the price $500. If you wanted a gas car you really should move up to a the reliability of this diesel. You won't be disappointed! Mercedes 5 Cylinder Turbo diesel starts right up and does not smoke on start up. Never driven on Ohio salted winter roads. This car is driven everyday in the summer. It was painted prior to the turn of the century with the new base coat clear coat. The windshield was also replaced. It is stored indoors during the winters here in Ohio. It has always maintained by a local Mercedes shop since 1993, but I did the oil changes. The engine was entirely rebuilt in March 99 by this shop at 142,000. New pistons, fitted in sleeve sets, rings included. Crank polished and turned. New rod and main bearings. Injectors and glow plugs replaced with new. After the rebuild and 10,000 miles I switched to Shell Rotella Synthetic oil. It runs very well on Blended WVO. The blended fuel saves about 50% in fuel costs. It can run on diesel or blended fuel with no other modifications all day long. I have installed an auxiliary fuel pump and filter to accommodate the Blended fuel. Shortly after this spare no expense rebuild the injection pump was replaced with a brand new one. The turbocharger was sent to Hard-line Turbo for an update and rebuild. I will give you many extra parts as I dismantled another car just like this one. Spare turbo diesel, transmission and anything else I could salvage from the other car is yours. Any parts left behind will be scrapped. Another local shop did frame restoration on the control arms on all four wheels this last summer. It needs a few things like a front bumper snubber and rear seats stuffed, but the upholstery is real nice. Driver and passenger seats are fine too. There is area where there are some smaller than a dime rust bubbles, that I noticed when taking pictures. Rust spot is on the drivers rear wheel quarter panel, and it shows in the pictures. The climate control has been upgraded to the newer trouble-free system, shown in the under hood pictures. This is about a $600 upgrade option. It is a very sound vehicle and has saved us tremendous amount of money. In my town where there are stop signs at every block, it still gets 25 mpg. Using half of this as WVO pushes it to over 50 paid for miles per gallon. On the highway, depending on the speed you can get 30 and 35 here in Ohio. It is not light by any means. It tips the scales up over 4000 pounds with passengers, so you can feel safe and protected in it. Not like today’s plastic cars. All the maintenance records from 1993 will show the care it has had by the same shop. The lucky new owner will be getting a nice car along with how to instructions for simple WVO blending that will save over half of your fuel costs. Taken care of this vehicle will last another 30 years! Most Mercedes parts are still available today unlike other vehicles. It is very simple mechanical fuel injection without all the complex emissions controls. This motor was called the million-mile motor. Other components for example, the shifter bushings were just replaced with new ones still available from Mercedes. The rear door actuator for the power locks was replaced and the parts were sent the next day. Just to mention a few recent things. Try getting a Ford, Dodge, or Chevrolet part for something over thirty years old. That may require a lot more effort and may take weeks to find if you are lucky. Step over to some German technology that was way ahead of its time. Enjoy peace of mind and economy at the same time. This is also a great candidate for pure WVO grease car kits. I just sold a VW that runs on straight WVO with the switching system. Although the blended fuel is easier and simple for my wife to use. There are no switches to remember while driving. Filler up with blend and drive, or use diesel if you do not have blend available. Any other questions please ask. I will be happy to pick any purchaser at the airport either Cleveland, Ohio, or Pittsburg, Pa. |

Mercedes GLS updates Silver Star seven-seater
Mon, Dec 15 2014It can be bewildering, the staggering array of crossovers and SUVs offered by Mercedes-Benz. There's the G, the GL, the GLK and the GLA, not to mention the new GLE and the ML that basically started it all. So you can forgive yourself if you've never heard of the GLS. After all, it doesn't currently exist. But it will soon. In accordance with Benz's new nomenclature, the GLS-Class will be the replacement for the GL – the largest of the Mercedes utility vehicles and the only one with three rows of seats. Since the current GL was only launched about two and a half years ago, the new nameplate won't be attached to an all-new model just yet. But as you can see from these spy shots, it appears that Mercedes is preparing a facelifted version of the existing model to fit into the new (or at least renamed) lineup. The biggest changes discernible from these spy shots is the revised front end, with new headlights, a more upright grille and a reshaped bumper and hood to go along with it. Around back the changes are more subtle, with reshaped tail lamps, bumper and exhaust pipes. Inside we're expecting a cleaner center console with a new 8-inch touchscreen reportedly inspired by the iPhone. We don't know when, exactly, to expect the revised GLS to arrive on the scene, but given the relatively modest nature of the revisions and how close they look to being ready, we wouldn't expect it to be long now. Whether those minor changes will be enough to keep up with the all-new Audi Q7 just announced, however, is another matter entirely.
Infiniti Q50 Red Sport 400 priced at $48,855, AWD at $50,855
Fri, Apr 8 2016Infiniti's most powerful production model, the new Q50 Red Sport 400, now has a starting price. You'll need at least $48,855 for the rear-drive model or $50,855 for all-wheel drive. (Both figures include the $905 destination charge.) A fully loaded, rear-drive Q50 RS400 with Direct Adaptive Steering, navigation, adaptive cruise control, a heated steering wheel, and Infiniti's entire alphabet soup of safety equipment, tops out at $57,045. (Again, add $2,000 for AWD). When it comes to rear-drive competition, the closest base price to the Q50 is the 320-hp BMW 340i. This German undercuts the Infiniti by two grand, $46,795 to $48,855. But the BMW outprices the Q50 as soon as you start selecting options. A 340i with similar equipment to a loaded Q50 Red Sport 400 costs just under $60,000. All-wheel-drive German competitors also lose out in the price war. Like with the rear-drive models, the BMW 340i xDrive undercuts the Q50 RS400 by around $2,000. Add the options, and the Infiniti becomes a better value. The other two big German rivals, the Audi S4 and Mercedes-Benz C450 AMG start at a higher price and only get more expensive. Technically the S4 starts cheaper than the Q50, but only with the standard manual transmission. Selecting the S-Tronic dual-clutch model kicks the price from $50,125 to $51,125, and going for the top-end Prestige trim will bump potential Audi owners up to $57,025. Throw on must-have S4 options, including adaptive cruise control, adaptive dampers, and a sport differential and you'll be shell out $64,425 for the Audi. The Mercedes-Benz C450 AMG is the priciest choice in this group, starting at $51,725, or roughly $900 more than a base Q50 RS400 with AWD. Options, again, are the downfall here. Building a C450 to match a loaded Infiniti will drive the Mercedes' price up to $64,315. While it occupies something of a weird space relative to these vehicles, it's also worth mentioning the Cadillac CTS VSport. It's the only car in this impromptu pricing comparo that can outgun the Q50, with its 3.6-liter, twin-turbo V6 good for 420 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque. It also starts at $60,950, although that includes plenty of standard equipment. All this means that the Q50 Red Sport 400 represents a relative value. It packs more power than the Germans – 80 more than the 340i, 67 more than the S4, and 38 more than the C450 – and a more comprehensive list of options, too.
Test drive the Mercedes SLS AMG Electric Drive with Chris Harris
Thu, 11 Apr 2013It's hard to not like the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT. The all-aluminum coupe is fitted with a wonderful naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8 delivering 583 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. Not only does the burly combustion engine launch the two-seater to 60 miles per hour in less than four seconds, but it does so with one of the world's greatest exhaust soundtracks as it roars, burbles and cackles down the road.
But what happens when Mercedes-Benz takes away the V8 and its accompanying fire-burning song? Stripped of one of its most appealing assets, does the SLS lose its soul?
Chris Harris recently had the opportunity to take the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Electric Drive for a track spin in Europe. Sans gasoline, but with four electric motors providing a combined 740 horsepower (737 pound-feet of torque), all-electric all-wheel drive coupe uses sophisticated torque vectoring and a multi-mode operating system to put oversteer - drifting! - back into the equation. Fun? You bet. See for yourself, below.
