OWNERSHIP HISTORY

This 1990 190E 2.6 is the quintessential "little old lady" automobile. It was purchased new in April of 1990 from Viti Mercedes in Tiverton, RI for $29,520. The woman who owned it (a neighbor of mine) drove it until 2000. Then, when she was no longer able to drive at the age of 90, she kept the car and had others serve as her driver until 2013 when she was 104 years old! Her son, noticing my obvious enthusiasm for older Mercedes, approached me one day about the possibility of purchasing the car, which I did this past summer.

As you would expect from a car owned by an elderly woman, the car is immaculate and in pristine condition. For the most part, it looks brand new. To the extent that there are any cosmetic flaws, they are minor and barely noticeable (one minor thing to note is that it is missing the tow hold cover below the front bumper). For most of its life it was garaged and rarely if ever driven in the snow.

For the last 23 years the car has been serviced and maintained by the dealer. Most recent major service (every 30,000 miles) was performed at 86,000 miles.

PERFORMANCE

The vehicle is performing to extremely high standards: acceleration, shifting, handling, braking, etc. are all as they should be.

Some are of the opinion that the M103 is one of the best engines Mercedes ever made. Especially in the smaller 201 chassis, it makes for a very quick and responsive and powerful engine. . ..which translates into a fun car to drive! The 722 transmission is extremely reliable. When well taken care of (which this one has), it can easily go 300,000 miles without service other than fluid and filter changes every 30,000 miles.

Everything works except for the following: (1) The power to the left rear window was disconnected by the dealer because it kept blowing the fuse; the new owner may want to investigate or simply leave as is. I had no interest in pursuing it. (2) While the original Alpine stereo works, sound only comes out of the front right speaker, and the quality is not great. The audio system is, by today's standards, of inferior quality; so I thought it best to leave it to the new owner decide what kind of audio system to install. And the antenna mast needs to be replaced (the antenna itself is fine. . .it needs to be removed and have the broken antenna mast cable removed from it and have a new mast installed. . .I decided not to deal with it).

MAINTENANCE HISTORY

Very significantly, the new owner will be provided with the COMPLETE SET OF MERCEDES-BENZ DEALER SERVICE RECORDS. I cannot stress enough the importance of having maintenance records in buying an older Mercedes. Usually best-case scenario is having access to the most recent few years. In this case, you get EVERYTHING, and this clearly adds great value to the car.

I have a table of maintenance highlights that I can send via email. By way of a quick summary, all fluids and filters are up-to-date and all periodic maintenance has been recently performed. Over the last 10,000 miles, the following have been replaced: fan clutch, belt and tensioner, radiator, head gasket, front brake rotors and pads, rear brake rotors and pads, windshield, spark plugs, exhaust, fuel filter, and fuel pressure regulator. In short, you have the confidence that there has not been deferred maintenance. Whenever this car needed ANYTHING, it was addressed.

I want to call particular attention to the fact that the head gasket and all related seals were replaced at 89,000 miles. This is an expensive repair; the fact that this car has already had the head gasket replaced adds to its value and gives the new owner confidence that it will be a very long time before it needs to be done again.

REASON FOR SELLING

When I purchased this 190E from my neighbor, I knew I was acquiring an exceptional automobile in near-perfect condition; it's difficult to imagine finding one of these in better condition with so few miles. But I also knew that my period of ownership would not be long. I have a 91 300D and a 92 300D that I hope to keep forever. From time to time I acquire an extra Mercedes to live with and learn about and then pass on to a more permanent owner; the 190E was my latest additional car, an unusual opportunity, and something of an investment vehicle. But, as I have no pressing need to sell it, I'm perfectly content to enjoy driving until the right buyer comes along. Ideally, I hope to find someone who can enjoy it and care for it as much as its first owner did, perhaps for another 20+ years.

Comes with three keys and all original documentation and service records.

Editors' Choice: Top Five 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show Debuts

Thu, Sep 17 2015

Consider the 2015-16 auto show season officially kicked off. The Frankfurt Motor Show offered a great look at the newest crop of production cars and conceptual machines, and brought some old favorites back into the spotlight for a closer look. (The Alfa Romeo Giulia, for example, debuted in June, but this was the first time most of us saw it.) Now that the dust has settled and we're all on flights back to the US, our editors cast their votes for their personal favorites from the Frankfurt show. These are the cars we truly loved seeing the most. But unlike other shows, there was no one runaway winner – all of the Top Five received positive praise from our team. We won't spoil the results, though. Scroll down to see what we liked most from this year's Frankfurt expo. 5th Place – MERCEDES-BENZ IAA CONCEPT View 12 Photos MIKE AUSTIN: The clean lines on this concept have me excited for a more elegant beauty to future Mercedes-Benz vehicles. Next to the Concept IAA, the lovely S-Class Coupe looks like an overstyled barge. DAVID GLUCKMAN: Yeah, the extendable rear is neat and all, but I'm more interested in the front-end styling of this one. It looks like the Tron version of a 300SL, in a good way. I'm hopeful it portends the future of Mercedes design. STEVEN EWING: I was super impressed when Mercedes said that, with the rear end extended, this concept has a drag coefficient of just 0.19. That's crazy aerodynamic. I'm not head-over-heels about the styling, but I think the lessons learned from this concept are really important, and will play a huge role in the future of Mercedes' products. 4th Place – ALFA ROMEO GIULIA View 15 Photos SEYTH MIERSMA: I can hardly express how in love with this car I am. The styling feels creative, modern, and evocative, without going over the top. The proposed performance is spectacular. And the Alfa badge speaks to a legacy of romantic motoring. DAVID GLUCKMAN: Pretty Italian car makes big promises and will probably deliver on about three quarters of them. I think that will still be enough for me. JEREMY KORZENIEWSKI: I'm really intrigued by the Giulia. It looks great, sounds awesome, and I'm expecting it to have a load more character than its German rivals. I hope I'm not disappointed. 3rd Place – JAGUAR F-PACE View 15 Photos GREG MIGLIORE: It's the first SUV for Jaguar, and I think they nailed the design, capability, and electronics. It's the right car at the right time.

Lamborghini Countach, Ferrari 512M and more immortalized as Lego sets

Tue, Feb 1 2022

Lego has announced a slew of new Speed Champions sets, the ones based on actual licensed cars, for 2022. The latest batch includes a smorgasbord of supercars, from beloved classics like the Lamborghini Countach to yet-to-be-released promises like the long-awaited Mercedes-AMG One. There are seven cars in total, released in five sets.  Our favorite is probably the 262-piece Lamborghini Countach, based on a later LP500 variant. Not only does it tick the box of a childhood dream machine, but the angular shape of the real-life Countach lends itself well to being recreated in Lego bricks. Also, it's modeled in white rather than the typical red. Lego Speed Champions Ferrari 512M 1 View 6 Photos We also really dig the Ferrari 512M. It marked the last of Ferrari's V12 endurance racers, and even though it was soundly spanked by the Porsche 917, the cars are undeniably beautiful. The 291-piece Lego set does a great job of capturing its brutal wedge silhouette in brick form. Lego Speed Champions Lotus Evija 1 View 5 Photos Rounding out the single-car sets is the 247-piece Lotus Evija. The electric Lotus has a bit of a generic supercar look about it, but that's not entirely the fault of the Lego kit. Its dramatic vents can't really be replicated with the limited "resolution" of the Lego bricks. Its rear, with unique taillight-encircled air tunnels, is a bit more distinctive. Lego Speed Champions Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR & Vantage GT3 1 View 7 Photos In addition to the single car sets, there are two larger sets of two cars each. One is a 592-piece Aston Martin-themed pack that includes the Valkyrie AMR Pro and Vantage GT3. Again, it's a bit difficult to sculpt the cars' curvaceous lines out of straight-edged bricks, but the effort is admirable. The Valkyrie is probably the more successful of the two, as the Vantage would resemble a Corvette or Viper if it didn't have stickers to clarify the details. Lego Speed Champions Mercedes-AMG F1 W12 E Performance & Project One 01 View 9 Photos Last but not least is a twofer comprised of 564 bricks to build the Mercedes-AMG One and seven-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton's W12 racer. In Lego's official product description the driver is not mentioned by name, but the number 44 gives it away. The model of the One indeed looks like a sharp supercar, but the blocky pieces don't exactly replicate the lines we've seen on camouflaged test mules.

Dartz promises own 6x6 G-Class with golden shishas and a dining room

Mon, 25 Mar 2013

So you didn't really think Dartz Motorz was going to let the limited-production, 544-horsepower Mercedes 6x6 G63 AMG go without a challenge, did you? Picking up the gauntlet as only Dartz can, the Russian dream-makers have come up with the Sahara G-eopard, supposedly a special request from a buyer to make one of the 'standard' six-wheelers "more opulent and insane."
That means the vehicle from the factory gets extended by about a foot (30 centimeters), coach doors in the rear, a "yacht floor" and air conditioning that runs on its own power source, Asanti 24-inch Gold Bullion wheels and a water dispenser with Russian diamonds, which the owner will need to fill the golden shishas (hookahs) in the portable smoking room. That's right, you heard the man: a portable smoking room. Where the occupants will retire when they're finished in the portable dining room. Of course.
Yes, it will even have leopard spotting painted onto its nano-coating, and so much more. You can check out the press release below from the source. Try not to be jealous.
